Chapter 66

"You've been chatting for a while, but you're totally dodging the topic of last night's fancy dinner. Where'd you eat, how much did it set you back, and why was the food so amazing?" Caroline pushed.

Sarah hesitated, not knowing the exact restaurant either.

The takeout was split into two portions, and after tasting it, Sarah couldn't stop raving about it. When she asked Ryan and Sophie, neither of them could remember the restaurant's name.

"As long as it's delicious, who cares where it's from? Next time, we'll go again, but you're treating," Sarah joked.

At the mention of paying, Caroline lost interest in the conversation.

Sarah's cooking might have been basic, but at least it was free!

At 9 AM, at Kennedy Corp headquarters, Jack strolled into the CEO's office with a grin. "Mr. Kennedy, the report's in, and it's a perfect match!"

Nathan barely looked up, his sharp eyes showing his annoyance at Jack's vague words.

Jack hadn't specified which report; it wasn't like him to be so unclear.

Being around Nathan, a genius, Jack had to keep up with Nathan's thought process, respond quickly, and stay in sync, or he'd be out of a job.

Jack had stuck by Nathan's side for years, thanks to his real talent, not luck.

Whether in business or personal matters, Jack could always read Nathan's intentions and respond accordingly.

Most of the time, the usually silent Nathan would have Jack speak for him, and Jack rarely messed up at work.

So this time, Jack's slip-up left Nathan pretty annoyed.

Jack rarely acted this way; he was known for his precision and sharpness, usually getting to the point in just a few words.

Because if it took more than three sentences, Nathan would get impatient.

Jack quickly gathered his thoughts. "The DNA test results for Ryan and you match, Mr. Kennedy. The kids are definitely part of Kennedy Family."

Jack's words were short and sweet.

Even though he expected it, Nathan was still thrilled.

His usually cold face even showed a hint of a blush.

"Good!" Nathan said.

"Congrats, Mr. Kennedy," Jack said.

Nathan added, "Ryan and Sophie are Nick's kids, my niece and nephew, two Kennedys!"

With that, he waved Jack away.

Nathan personally dialed Nick's number, but no one answered.

The time difference reminded Nathan it was 4 AM over there. No way someone as lazy as Nick would be up that early.

Nathan then sent a message: [Call me when you wake up.]

After sending it, Nathan dove into meetings.

For a leader at his level, the schedule was packed with back-to-back meetings.

Various meetings filled his day, like internal management meetings and partner meetings.

In meetings, he'd get insights into the company's operations, make decisions, and provide direction. That was Nathan's job.

In the afternoon, Nick finally called back.

"Nathan, what's up? You called me so early," Nick mumbled, still half-asleep.

Nathan replied, "Got some good news for you."

"What news? You getting married?" Nick joked.

Nathan continued, "Remember I told you about those two kids who look a lot like you?"

Nick replied, "Yeah, they look like you too. We're practically twins."

"The DNA report confirmed it. They're your kids," Nathan said.

Nick was stunned. "Really? That's amazing. I need to meet them. We haven't seen each other in ages; we need to reconnect. Nathan, can you set it up? I've had enough of Stellaria. You know what I mean."

"Come back and see them," Nathan responded simply.

Nick was almost ecstatic. "Thanks, Nathan. You're the best. On behalf of my kids, thank you!"

Nathan hung up without saying more.

Despite his joy, a strange sense of loss quietly crept into Nathan and grew stronger.

He was puzzled. Ryan and Sophie were new additions to the Kennedy Family; he should have been pleased. So why did he feel so upset?

This sense of loss lingered in Nathan's heart, even bringing a tinge of guilt. What was wrong with him?

At that moment, Jack reappeared, "Mr. Kennedy."

Before Jack could say more, Nathan waved him off. "Cancel the rest of my schedule. I need to go for a walk."

"But..." Jack started, but Nathan waved him off again.

"Understood, Mr. Kennedy. I'll have the driver prepare the car."

"No need, I'll go alone," Nathan insisted.

Jack tried to persuade him, "Mr. Kennedy, that's not advisable. Your safety..."

"I've decided!" Nathan's tone suddenly rose.

Though usually strict, Nathan rarely raised his tone.

Jack was stunned by Nathan's sudden anger and quickly left without another word.

Nathan sent a message to Harper: [I'll be at your place shortly.]

Harper replied: [Okay.]

Harper had never seen Nathan like this.

In Harper's office, Nathan lazily leaned back in the chair, his long lashes lowered, his lips tightly pressed. The room was so quiet that his breathing cut through the air.

Harper glanced at the time; half an hour had quietly passed.

For someone as busy as Nathan, every minute was extremely precious, let alone a half-hour gap.

But since Nathan entered, he hadn't said a word.

As Nathan's long-time friend and psychological consultant, Harper had a unique understanding of him.

Even though Nathan was silent, Harper could sense from his subtle expressions and small movements that he felt lost.

This emotion was something she had never noticed in Nathan over the years. Nathan was a business tycoon who never admitted defeat, always in control. How could he feel lost?

Harper didn't dare to ask, nor did she know how to start.

Whatever could make Nathan feel lost must have been a monumental issue, right?

Such a big issue, how could a psychological consultant like her handle it?

Harper stepped out and instructed her assistant to prepare a cup of rich coffee.

When Harper returned, Nathan's long legs finally moved, as if he were coming back to life.

His expression had also softened compared to the one half an hour ago when he had just stepped in here, as if he had completed some inner adjustment during his meditation.

Strong people always had the ability to self-repair, and Nathan was undoubtedly the strongest of the strong.

Harper exhaled softly; the time was right.

"Feeling better?" Harper asked gently.
