Chapter 117

"You wouldn't understand. Just leave them alone," Ryan said, pretending to be mature.

"But if they're like that, can we really ignore them?" Sophie asked, full of worry.

"Don't worry about it," Ryan insisted.

Finally, Nathan let go of Caroline's tightly held hand, her fingers already reddened from his grip.

"Where are you taking me?" Caroline demanded.

Nathan ignored her and continued walking briskly.

Caroline understood that if she didn't follow, Nathan would forcibly take her away, so she decided not to resist.

When they reached a secluded spot, Nathan stopped and looked around, as if assessing the environment.

Caroline felt uneasy. Was he planning to harm her here and then dispose of her body?

But then again, they didn't have any deep-seated hatred, so it shouldn't come to that, right?

What exactly was he planning?

"Here. Take off your clothes," Nathan suddenly said.

Caroline was stunned and crossed her arms over her chest. "What do you want?"

"I don't want anything," Nathan responded calmly.

"Touch me and you'll regret it!" Caroline threatened.

Nathan was taken aback for a moment, then understood and sneered. "Seriously? You think I'd touch you? Don't flatter yourself!"

Nathan's disdainful look made Caroline furious. Am I really that undesirable?

"Then what do you want?" Caroline pressed.

"No one's around here. I'll keep watch while you take a bath. Otherwise, you'll keep itching and it might get infected," Nathan explained.

Caroline blushed. How did he know about my itching? Did Sophie tell him?

"I'm not taking a bath!"

"Suit yourself," Nathan said, turning to leave.

"Hey!" Caroline called out.

Nathan stopped and looked back coldly but said nothing.

"Do you promise not to peek?" Caroline asked, embarrassed.

Nathan snorted and turned his head away, full of disdain. Though he didn't say it, his eyes seemed to say, "You think you're worth peeking at?"

"If you peek, you'll pay for it!" Caroline warned.

Nathan ignored her and walked behind the bushes.

Once she was sure Nathan couldn't see her, Caroline slowly took off her clothes and stepped into the shallow part of the river.

The cold water soothed her itchy, burning skin instantly.

She hurried through her bath, feeling anxious even though she knew no one was around.

Just as she was about to finish, a dark shadow swam close—it was a snake!

Caroline screamed and ran to the shore.

Nathan heard her scream and rushed over. Their eyes met, and time seemed to freeze.

"Get lost, you jerk!" Caroline shouted.

Nathan retreated awkwardly back behind the bushes.

Caroline dressed quickly, feeling extremely embarrassed. She knew he was concerned, but it was still too awkward!

Meanwhile, Nathan was also feeling conflicted, a sense of guilt washing over him. Caroline was with Nick; how could he have seen her naked?

But it was too late to regret; the image was already etched deeply in his mind!

How could he make up for it? It seemed impossible!

Still, he had to face reality. They couldn't stay here long; they needed to return to the camp quickly.

"Are you done?" Nathan asked.

"Yes," Caroline replied reluctantly.

"Come here," Nathan ordered.

Caroline trudged towards Nathan, each step feeling like it was weighed down with lead.

Nathan started unbuttoning his shirt.

"What are you doing now?" Caroline asked, alarmed.

"I'm taking a bath too. You wash this shirt and wring it out," Nathan said, pointing to the riverbank.

"Why should I?" Caroline protested.

"Is there anyone else here?" Nathan retorted.

Caroline was speechless. Indeed, there was no one else, but that didn't mean she had to wash his clothes!

Before she could protest, Nathan had already jumped into the river.

Caroline stood there holding his shirt, stunned.

"If you don't wash it, I'll tell everyone what happened today," Nathan threatened.

Caroline was furious. Nathan was too domineering. He saw her and didn't keep it to himself; did he have no shame?

Despite her anger, she knew this matter couldn't be made public!

Reluctantly, she took the shirt.

Upon closer inspection, the buttons were exquisite and seemed familiar.

Clearly custom-made, each button was engraved with the letter "N."

Caroline had a similar button, which she had kept for five years.

She had once thought of using it as a clue to find the father of her child, but Sarah had discouraged her, saying that in five years, not just the buttons but the clothes would have changed countless times.

Today, she saw the same button. Nathan had kept the same clothes and buttons for years.

Caroline was overwhelmed. Was this a coincidence or a misunderstanding?

Nathan finished his bath and put on the shirt Caroline had just washed.

The wet fabric clung to his muscular body, revealing his well-defined abs and chest. Though Nathan was annoying, his physique was impeccable, and even Caroline couldn't help but take a second look.

"How long have you had this shirt?" Caroline asked softly.

Nathan glanced at her, thinking, 'Is she stupid? Why would she ask such a question? I am the president of Kennedy Corp. I don't wear a shirt more than ten times, and she's asking if I've been wearing it for years?'

Caroline realized the question was naive as soon as she asked it.

No matter how good the quality, a shirt couldn't last five years, especially for someone as wealthy as Nathan. And all the buttons were intact, clearly not the same shirt from five years ago.

They walked back in silence.

Nathan walked briskly, his long legs giving him an advantage.

Caroline, preoccupied, walked slower, forcing Nathan to stop and wait occasionally, growing impatient.

"Can you walk faster with your short legs?" Nathan urged.

Caroline snapped back, "Do I have to have long legs like yours?"

Nathan was momentarily speechless. She was so annoying!

"Where did you buy this shirt?" Caroline asked again.
