Chapter 44
Sophie suddenly burst out laughing, "It's him, it's definitely him!"
Harper and Nathan were caught off guard again.
Ryan kept a straight face, but the sparkle in his eyes gave away his excitement.
Sophie and Ryan had seen Nathan's photo on the computer and had secretly decided he'd be perfect for Caroline. But they hadn't met him in person until now. Seeing Nathan right in front of them, Ryan felt a rush of excitement.
"I'm Sophie, and this is my brother Ryan. He's a few minutes older than me. We're twins," Sophie introduced them both with a big smile.
Nathan felt a warm, fuzzy feeling in his chest, like his heart was melting.
Sophie's smile had already made him feel all sorts of things. He felt an unexpected closeness, making the usually tough Nathan feel soft.
This closeness had a sweet, magical vibe that left Nathan completely enchanted. He couldn't even explain why he felt this way.
After Sophie finished her intro, she waited for Nathan to say something. Nathan seemed lost in thought, just quietly looking at Sophie and Ryan, his eyes soft and kind.
Harper, with her psychologist's intuition, could tell Nathan was totally smitten. Nathan's emotions were completely swayed by Sophie and Ryan, and he was overflowing with joy. He had let his guard down completely.
"Mr. Kennedy?" Harper tried to snap Nathan back to reality.
Nathan blinked and came back to his senses. "Oh, hi, nice to meet you."
Harper's eyes widened. Was Nathan being this polite? And saying so much at once?
"Nice to meet you too," Sophie beamed, wanting to walk over to Nathan. She really liked this handsome guy.
To Sophie, Nathan was the second most handsome guy in the world, right after Ryan!
Ryan's look told Sophie to hold back.
Sophie reluctantly stepped back, climbed onto a chair, her legs swinging because it was a bit high for her.
Nathan was happy to see Sophie coming closer. He wanted to get closer too but was a bit surprised by Ryan's signal to stop.
"Harper, we want to talk to him alone," Sophie said seriously.
Ryan nodded in agreement.
Harper felt a bit dismissed. This was her office, and they were ignoring her just because they met a handsome guy?
"What do you want to talk about?" Harper asked, curious.
"Something very important," Sophie said, still serious.
Ryan nodded again.
Nathan felt flattered because Sophie and Ryan wanted to talk to him alone.
"How about you step out, and I'll talk to them?" Nathan suggested to Harper.
"But I should be here. If Sophie and Ryan's parents come, how will I explain?" Harper, being a professional psychologist, trusted Nathan but still felt it was a bit off to leave him alone with the kids.
"We'll just say a few words," Nathan insisted.
"Do you two really want to talk to him alone?" Harper asked again.
Ryan and Sophie nodded at the same time, and Nathan joined in.
Harper felt a headache coming on. Three almost identical faces nodding in perfect sync made her dizzy, making her wonder if she was seeing things.
Alright, just based on that perfectly synchronized nodding, Harper decided to let them talk alone.
More importantly, Harper was convinced that Ryan and Sophie had some connection to Nathan! They looked so much alike, not just in appearance, but also in their expressions and demeanor. It was as if they were two mini versions of Nathan and one enlarged version of Nathan, like they were directly copied and pasted. Especially Ryan, with his silent demeanor and cold eyes, he was practically a smaller version of Nathan.
"Okay, you talk. I'll be outside. Call me if you need anything," Harper reluctantly stood up, gently closed the door, and left.
Inside, the three extremely similar faces stared at each other. They were curious about each other, yet there was an inexplicable sense of familiarity. It was a natural sense of closeness, as if they were reuniting after a long separation, even though it was their first meeting.
Finally, Sophie broke the silence. "Are you really Nathan?"
"Yes," Nathan answered honestly.
"Are you the Nathan who is a CEO?" Sophie asked.
Nathan squinted slightly, "How do you know I'm a CEO?"
Sophie waved her hand, "That's not important. Just tell me if you are."
"I am," Nathan nodded.
Sophie glanced at Ryan, and their eyes met.
He was indeed the person they wanted to meet!
Nathan, looking puzzled, asked, "So, you've been looking for me?"
"Yes," Sophie confirmed.
"Why were you looking for me?" Nathan asked, confused.
Sophie looked at Ryan, seeking his approval with her eyes.
They were looking for Nathan to match him with Caroline, but saying it outright seemed too blunt. She hesitated about whether to say it.
If they were to say it, Ryan was also unsure how they should start.
If they directly explained everything, it might make them seem too forward, and they were afraid Caroline would be unhappy if she found out.
After all, this was a little plan that Ryan and Sophie had secretly concocted without Caroline's formal approval.
So, Ryan and Sophie fell silent.
Nathan, being a shrewd person, immediately saw that Ryan and Sophie had something they couldn't say. It was strange that Ryan and Sophie, at such a young age, were hiding secrets. So, Nathan changed to an easier question. "Have you started school yet?"
Sophie responded quickly, "Yes, we're at Child's Play Nursery."
Nathan was naturally familiar with Child's Play Nursery. It was a key project of the Kennedy Corp education group.
Child's Play Nursery had a tuition fee of $500,000 per semester, a top standard nationwide, and its spots were scarce. Children who could afford this school usually came from well-off families, often considered the upper class of Aurora City.
If their parents were in this high-end social circle, even if Nathan wasn't familiar with them, he should have heard of them. But Nathan thought about it and realized that no family in Aurora City's upper society included Ryan and Sophie.
Nathan nodded slightly, "Can you tell me your father's name?"
Ryan and Sophie exchanged a glance.
"We've never met him," Sophie uttered honestly.
Nathan's eyes narrowed slightly. "Never met?"
Ryan and Sophie nodded in unison.
"Why?" Nathan couldn't help but ask.
