Chapter 155

Nathan thought for a moment and said, "This question is hard for me to answer. Let's just go to sleep and stop thinking about it."

Ryan continued, "Can I ask one last question?"

Nathan nodded.

"Why are you pretending to be my dad?"

Nathan felt a bit troubled. Ryan's questions were really hard to answer; he was harder to deal with than many adults.

Nathan thought, 'For fun or to experience a different identity? These answers might fool others, but not Ryan. He's incredibly smart and emotionally intelligent.'

"I don't really know myself. Sometimes people do things without knowing why, and I guess that's where I'm at. Does that make sense to you?" Nathan felt he was telling the truth; he genuinely didn't know why he did it. The scary part was that it was addictive. After doing it once, he wanted to do it again, but the guilt haunted him, leaving him deeply conflicted.

Ryan nodded. "How about I analyze it for you?"

Nathan was shocked and quickly waved his hand. "No need."

He didn't know why he was so afraid of Ryan's analysis. Was he worried it might be too frightening or too embarrassing?

"Alright then, good night. I'm going to sleep."

"Good night."

The next morning at the airport, Nick, dressed in a white casual suit and accompanied by his assistant, walked out of the VIP channel. He looked around but saw no reporter.

"Why are no reporters here to take pictures? Unbelievable!" he frowned.

"Mr. Nick Kennedy, we took the VIP channel to avoid being surrounded by the media," the assistant reminded him.

"Why avoid the media? Am I not photogenic enough?"

"You're incredibly handsome. But we want to keep a low profile," the assistant explained.

"Why? Isn't that Nathan's job?"

"You specifically instructed us to keep a low profile," the assistant replied.

"Did I say that?"

"You did."

"Alright then."

Then Nick pointed to a large screen not far away. "See that display screen? Contact the airport, train stations, and bus stations for all the ad spaces. I want to book them to play my wedding ad around the clock. Play it 24/7 so that everyone in the country and even the world knows I'm getting married!""

"This..." The assistant was a bit troubled.

"Is there a problem?"

"Didn't you say to keep a low profile? This doesn't seem appropriate."

"Not at all.All I'm doing is an electronic ad. If I weren't trying to keep a low profile, I'd be advertising on TV! Even if I want to keep a low profile, I'm still Nick. People should know I'm getting married, right?Nick said discontentedly.

The assistant didn't dare to say more. After all, it was Nick's money, and being too talkative as a subordinate wasn't beneficial. "Okay, Mr. Nick Kennedy, I'll arrange it right away."

"By the way, don't let Nathan know," Nick added.

"That might be difficult. Once the ad is out, Mr. Nathan Kennedy is likely to see it. Moreover, with the ad playing around the clock, it's unrealistic for Mr. Nathan Kennedy to know nothing."

Nick thought about it and agreed. With the ad playing citywide, how could he hide it from Nathan?

"Then say it's a wedding gift from the ad company. They did it on their own, and I knew nothing about it!" Nick thought his excuse was brilliant.

Half an hour later, in Nathan's office, Nick lay on the sofa and exclaimed, "Nathan, I'm back! I'm exhausted! After I get married, don't send me to Stellaria again. It's too tiring!"

Seeing no response, he noticed Nathan's gloomy face.

Nick quickly put away his playful expression. "Mr. Nathan Kennedy, the matters in Stellaria have been handed over."

Nathan looked down. "You plan to play your wedding ad citywide? Marriage is a personal matter. Why use so many public media resources?"

Nick felt something was wrong. Who leaked the news?

"Don't bother figuring out who told. These ad spaces belong to the Kennedy Corp Media. Did you think you could hide it from me?" Nathan said coldly.

Nick quickly flashed a smile. "It was all done by my subordinates. I always asked for a low profile, but they wouldn't listen."

"Cancel it," Nathan said.

"Fine.." Nick replied reluctantly.

"I'm talking about calling off the wedding."

"What?" Nick was stunned. Canceling the ad was one thing, but canceling the wedding?

"Nathan, what do you mean?"

"Exactly what I said. The wedding is off," Nathan replied.

"Why? I spent the whole flight planning the wedding, and now it's canceled?" Nick asked anxiously.

"I'm sorry," Nathan said, looking a bit guilty.

"I don't need an apology, I need my wedding!" Nick shouted.

Nathan stood up and paced in the office. "Nick, do you trust me?"

"Of course, who else can I trust? You've taken care of me since we were kids."

"Alright, have I ever made a wrong decision for you?"

Nick thought for a moment. "Except for sending me to Stellaria, everything else was basically right."

"That was to train you. Didn't your abilities improve a lot during that time?"

"Nathan, you're not planning to send me to Stellaria again, are you?" Nick asked in surprise.

"Forget it. If you trust me, don't marry Demi," Nathan said firmly.

Nick stood up too. "But you were the one who told me to marry her! How can you change your mind like this? This is my life, and you're interfering too much!"

Nathan closed his eyes, showing a pained expression.

This was the situation Nathan feared most because he couldn't let Demi ruin the bond between brothers.

Since childhood, Nick had always been obedient. Even though their statuses were different, Nick always supported him and helped him share the burden.

Two identical people, one a group leader, the other willing to be the support, was rare.

Because of this, Nathan particularly cherished Nick.

"Nick, I'm not trying to run your life, but I can't just stand by and watch you walk into a trap."

""Do you really think marriage is a trap? Even if it is, I'm willing to be in it!" Nick said angrily.

Nathan remained silent, watching Nick's anger and unsure whether to reveal the truth. If Nick believed him, it would be fine. But if not, it could worsen the situation, making Nick think he was trying to sabotage the marriage by badmouthing his fiancée, which would be even harder to explain.

"Nathan, why is marrying Demi a trap? We have children. Why are you trying to stop us?" Nick demanded, growing more agitated.

Nathan had always opposed the marriage, but then he called Nick, telling him to come back and get married. Nick was so excited he couldn't sleep for days. However, as soon as he returned to Aurora City, Nathan changed his mind. This back and forth was too much for Nick; he felt Nathan was playing him.

Nathan decided not to mention Caroline or the man with the BMW, as there were too many other issues with her to explain. He pondered how to make Nick accept not marrying Caroline without hurting him, knowing it would be difficult.

"Say something, Nathan! What do you mean by staying silent?" Nick pressed on.
