Chapter 195

Twenty minutes later, Nathan was restless and fidgety in a barbecue restaurant.

He had never been to a place like this before. Looking at the surroundings, his brows furrowed. Not only was the hygiene poor, but the quality was also unreliable. How could so many people be willing to eat here?

Caroline couldn't help but laugh at Nathan's discomfort.

She knew very well that Nathan's aloof personality was completely out of place in such a noisy and lively environment. When her family was well-off, her mother never let Caroline eat at places like this.

"Why don't you go back first?" Caroline asked, holding back her laughter.

Nathan didn't say anything. Although he really didn't want to stay here, he had something important to discuss with Caroline today, so he had to endure it.

As more and more people arrived, Nathan became increasingly uneasy. The food he ordered was still in line; how long would it take?

Seeing this, Caroline stood up. "How about we go somewhere else?"

Nathan looked at Caroline, unsure if she really wanted to leave or was just saying it.

"It is indeed too noisy here, and your demeanor doesn't quite fit this environment. Let's go somewhere else," Caroline said as she stood up and walked out.

Realizing Caroline wasn't joking, Nathan immediately followed her out.

"I'll take you to a nice place," Nathan suggested.

"Forget it, let's go back to the hotel. I'm suddenly not in the mood," Caroline said, somewhat disappointed.

"You know, there's a place called 'Flame Grilled Steakhouse' that's fantastic. Their beef is the best, and the wine is top-notch. It won't be any worse than the barbecue you usually have," Nathan added.

Hearing this, Caroline's interest was piqued again, and she was curious about the place Nathan mentioned.

"Alright, let's give it a try."

They arrived at a restaurant with simple yet tasteful decor. It seemed Nathan had called ahead, as the restaurant was empty.

"This is the only place where you can get genuine local premium steak. Those so-called local premium beef outside are all fakes," Nathan said proudly.

"Really?" Caroline was even more interested.

Nathan didn't say anything, just nodded slightly.

Soon, the beef was served. Caroline took a small bite, and it practically melted in her mouth. It was so tender and juicy, a taste like nothing she had ever experienced before.

"Yes, it's really delicious!" Caroline gave a thumbs up.

Nathan remained expressionless, but a barely noticeable smile appeared at the corner of his mouth.

"You were so eager to have dinner with me today; you must have a purpose, right?" Caroline probed.

"Yes, I do need your help with something," Nathan admitted.

Caroline put down her knife and fork, looking at him warily. "What? You really have something?"

"Don't worry, I just need some answers from you," Nathan said lightly.

"What if my answers don't satisfy you?" Caroline became nervous, thinking that such a high-end restaurant must be very expensive.

"No matter your answers, you won't be mistreated," Nathan assured her to relax and continue enjoying the meal.

Hearing this, Caroline picked up her utensils again. "Alright, go ahead."

For the next while, they silently enjoyed their meal. Nathan kept thinking about how to broach the subject.

After finishing the main course, Nathan suggested, "Let's have some more wine. The wine here is also good."

"Sure, I'll have a glass," Caroline responded. She was really tired and thought a little drink might make her feel better. Besides, sitting opposite Nathan was quite nerve-wracking.

"Do you often get drunk?" Nathan asked curiously.

"No, I'm not a drunkard," Caroline quickly explained.

Seeing this, Nathan poured her a full glass of sake. He also poured himself a glass and raised it to Caroline.

Not knowing what was going on, Caroline took a small sip. It was so strong!

At this moment, Nathan suddenly took out a button and placed it on the table, staring intently at Caroline.

Caroline recognized it as an old keepsake of hers but remained calm.

"Is this your lost button? Unfortunately, I never learned how to sew, so I can't help you," Caroline pretended to be indifferent.

"How do you know this is a button from my shirt?" Nathan asked coldly.

Caroline was stunned. "I guessed. It just looks like it."

"Tell the truth! Do you know its real origin?" Nathan pressed on.

Caroline panicked, wondering if she should admit it. "I don't know."

"You're lying," Nathan pointed out mercilessly.

"I'm not!" Caroline retorted, "How could I remember every button on your shirt? "

Facing Caroline's stubborn denial, Nathan was exasperated. It was clearly something she had kept, yet she refused to admit it.

To get her to confess the truth, Nathan poured another full glass. "Have some more."

However, Caroline instantly became more vigilant, feeling that Nathan was acting too strangely tonight: he patiently waited until late at night, treated her to barbecue, and now kept urging her to drink.

Did he have another motive? Like taking action after getting her drunk?

Thinking of this, Caroline became even more cautious. "No, I'm allergic to alcohol. A little more and I'll be drunk. I drank too much yesterday and still feel awful."

Nathan recalled Caroline's out-of-control state last night and felt disdain. He remained gentle on the surface. "It's okay."

"No way!" Caroline was firm, determined not to let him succeed easily. This wine might be spiked. What if something happened to her?
