Chapter 93
Nathan's voice was low and magnetic, back to its usual cold and distant tone.
Caroline was puzzled. Marriage? What was he even talking about?
"That's none of your business," Caroline shot back, trying to hide her fear of Nathan, this dangerous man.
Nathan's anger was simmering.
"Ryan and Sophie belong to the Kennedy Family," Nathan said, his voice shaking a bit. He might not have a say in Caroline's marriage, but when it came to Ryan and Sophie, he wasn't backing down.
"You're mistaken. Ryan and Sophie are my kids," Caroline corrected him.
"Leave Ryan and Sophie here, and give me their custody," Nathan demanded coldly.
Caroline's frustration was growing.
"Why would I give you my kids?" she snapped.
"Because they are part of the Kennedy Family," Nathan insisted.
"Wrong! They are part of the Rockefeller Family!" Caroline shot back.
"The Rockefeller Family?" Nathan suddenly realized something was off. Why was their last name Rockefeller?
He hadn't thought about it before, but now it seemed crucial.
If Ryan and Sophie took their mom's last name, it should be Murphy.
Could it be that Ryan and Sophie had a stepfather named Rockefeller?
"Who is this Rockefeller? Where is he?" Nathan asked coldly.
Caroline was baffled.
She couldn't follow Nathan's logic. Wasn't she the one with the last name Rockefeller?
"Where is he?" Nathan asked again, more sternly.
Caroline felt a surge of intense violence from him, and she was terrified.
"Who do you mean by 'him'?" Caroline's voice trembled.
Nathan was even more furious, convinced she was playing dumb, mocking him! Was she still pretending?
Caroline was even more confused.
"Give me their custody. I'll pay you one hundred million dollars," Nathan offered.
Caroline was secretly surprised. The price had gone up? Last time it was tens of millions, now it had jumped to one hundred million!
"I won't sell Ryan and Sophie," Caroline still refused.
"Two hundred million dollars!" Nathan raised the offer.
The price had gone up again! Caroline's mind flashed with the image of herself becoming a multimillionaire, which was quite appealing. At least she could have gotten rid of Sawyer's debt and no longer have had to endure his bossiness!
Moreover, with two hundred million dollars in Caroline's hand, wouldn't Sarah have been at Caroline's beck and call?
She could also have bought beautiful clothes for Ryan and Sophie and have provided them with the best education.
Nathan caught the fleeting glimmer in Caroline's eyes, thinking, 'Damn it! She is ultimately greedy! She said she wouldn't sell, but in reality, she is waiting for the right price!'
Caroline's fantasy was instantly pulled back to reality. The cost of two hundred million dollars was losing Ryan and Sophie, which she couldn't accept!
"I won't sell my kids for any amount of money. They are my life," Caroline refused firmly.
"Three hundred million dollars!" Nathan's offer had reached its limit.
Three hundred million dollars was enough to achieve financial freedom and live a life of luxury.
She could get this wealth just by giving birth to Ryan and Sophie; she should be satisfied!
If she still didn't agree, Nathan would make sure she got nothing!
For greedy people, you couldn't just satisfy them; you had to take away everything they desired!
"Please stop saying numbers. Money might be the solution to everything for you and I am desperately in want of money, but that doesn't mean I will trade Ryan and Sophie for it. Ryan and Sophie are my life. No matter how much money you offer, I will not give up their custody," Caroline spoke, ready to leave.
She found there was no need to say more to the high-and-mighty Nathan, who thought he could control everything.
Caroline never allowed anyone to manipulate her life, no matter who it was or how much wealth was involved.
Nathan quickly blocked her.
"If you walk out of here, you'll regret it," Nathan said coldly.
Caroline responded, "I won't regret it."
Nathan emphasized, "This is your last chance."
Caroline spoke, "I don't care about this chance."
"Then you'll have nothing," Nathan issued his final ultimatum.
Caroline snorted, "I never wanted your money."
Nathan asked, "Do you want more?"
"Think whatever you want," Caroline replied coldly.
Nathan was furious.
He didn't understand why he was so angry. After all, a mere greedy woman wasn't worth his attention. But he was fuming with rage, unable to control himself!
In his daze, Caroline had already walked out of the office.
The scent of orange blossoms gradually faded, and Nathan took a deep breath, trying to calm down.
He had almost lost control in front of her, unbelievable.
The next day, in the film city, on the set of "Thunder 2", Sawyer and Caroline were immersed in their scene together. Their matching appearances, combined with their superb acting, captivated everyone present.
A series of shots went by with almost no retakes; they completed the filming task smoothly.
During the lunch break, although Sawyer had other scenes waiting, he insisted on having lunch with Caroline before leaving.
Caroline couldn't help but tease, "It's really cheeky of you to compete with me for the crew's boxed lunch here instead of eating out at some fancy restaurant."
Sawyer immediately retorted, "You're just not romantic. I'm having lunch with the love interest of the character I am playing, but you say I'm here for the crew's food. With my hefty paycheck, I can definitely afford the gourmet meal. Why would I need to eat a boxed lunch?"
"I mean. It's just a boxed lunch," Caroline asked.
Sawyer leaned in slightly, speaking mysteriously, "Actually, I have something to ask you."
"What is it?" Caroline asked curiously.
"I heard you went to Nathan's company yesterday?" Sawyer asked in a low voice.
"Who told you that?" Caroline asked back.
"Although I don't meddle in Nathan's company affairs, I still have a few insiders there," Sawyer spoke with a smug smile.
Caroline replied, "Yes, I went there. Is there a problem?"
Sawyer was curious. "What did you go there for?"
Caroline asked, "Why do you pry into this?"
"I'm not prying, just curious. You're so close with Nick, why did you go to Nathan's office?" Sawyer looked gossipy.
"Ryan and Sophie had stayed a while with Nathan, so I went to pick them up," Caroline explained frankly.
Sawyer asked, "Why did Ryan and Sophie want to see Nathan?"
"Ryan and Sophie do what they want; why do they need so many reasons?" Caroline responded helplessly.
