Chapter 174

Under Sarah's persuasion, Caroline finally began to calm down.

In fact, it was normal for celebrities to be criticized. The reason Caroline was so agitated was mainly because she rarely faced such criticism.

Why was she rarely criticized? Because she wasn't famous enough.

Not being famous meant no one paid attention, or very few people did. But once one became famous, it meant enjoying vast social resources and attention, becoming a public figure.

Those resources and attention didn't come for free. While enjoying them, one must also be prepared for backlash.

Fans spend money on celebrities, attend their concerts, buy the products they endorse, giving them endless glory and wealth. But none of this came for free.

Fans had their own expectations of celebrities. They wanted celebrities to be a certain way and not another, just like parents with children or between couples. If they didn't meet these expectations, fans would turn against them and start criticizing.

Rights and obligations coexisted. Enjoying the rights meant one must bear the obligations. A celebrity's duty was to ensure their fans felt emotionally and spiritually fulfilled.

Caroline understood these principles, but she had never experienced such a fierce attack. The negative comments online were like a flood and she couldn't withstand it.

After calming down, Caroline began to think about how to solve the problem.

"Should I explain? Otherwise, they'll keep criticizing me," Caroline said dejectedly.

"No, you can't speak out now. Anything you say will be wrong. If you dare to appear, they'll criticize you so much you won't be able to handle it," Sarah shook her head.

"So, I just have to endure the criticism? It's so unbearable," Caroline complained.

"Staying silent is the best option now. Sawyer's fans range from twelve or thirteen to forty or fifty years old."

"Wait, people in their forties and fifties still chase stars?" Caroline looked incredulous.

"Why wouldn't they? They chase stars even more passionately. They see Sawyer as their child, watching him grow and fulfilling their dreams from their youth."

"Oh my god!" Caroline lamented, "So now they see someone else taking 'their child,' and they're coming after me?"

"That's about right," Sarah couldn't help but laugh.

"Can you be serious? You're still laughing?" Caroline said angrily.

Sarah immediately stopped laughing.

As for the young fans, it was even more understandable. Sawyer was their dream guy. When Caroline had dinner with Sawyer, and it made the trending list, they felt she was completely unworthy of him and decided to target her.

"You're right, so I have to try to understand their feelings," Caroline sighed.

"But their criticism is excessively harsh!" Caroline's anger flared up again.

"Yes. There are always some online bullies, and it's hard to completely avoid this. The best solution now is for Sawyer to personally explain last night's incident. Only then can the fans' anger be appeased. And he must face the camera himself, or the fans will say it's the agency speaking for him."

Caroline shook her head. "That's impossible."

"Why? You have a good relationship with him. Can't he come out and clarify for you?"

Caroline still shook her head. "Not now. I can't let him take the risk to stand up for me. It would be too damaging for him."

"It wouldn't be that bad! He's a top star. If he's willing to come forward, the situation will quickly calm down, and it won't affect him much."

Caroline continued to shake her head without further explanation. She knew that Sawyer couldn't face reporters now due to severe stuttering. If this secret were exposed, the loss would be immeasurable, and the negative impact on his future would be unpredictable.

As his friend, Caroline naturally didn't want him to sacrifice his future for her, but she wouldn't easily tell Sarah this secret unless Sawyer himself agreed.

"Forget it, let's not think about it for now. Things will pass. There's new gossip every day, and my issue will soon be forgotten. Let's focus on filming," Caroline comforted herself.

"That's right, having a good mindset is most important," Sarah comforted.

"Stop pretending to be so high-minded. You don't feel my pain because it didn't happen to you!" Caroline glared at Sarah.

After breakfast, the two drove to the film studio.

When they arrived at the filming location, they saw a large crowd gathered outside. As they got closer, they saw there were hundreds of people, mostly young, all very emotional and shouting loudly.

Listening closely, they were shouting, "Demi, go to hell! Bitch, come out!"

"Oh no, it's not just online; they're taking action offline too! How much do they hate me to come all the way here? And who told them I was filming here?" Caroline said.

Sarah frowned, it seemed the situation was getting out of control.

They originally thought it was just an online battle, but they didn't expect these people to come in person!

"Gathering so many people in the morning means it was organized. Someone must be targeting you, leaking your filming location. But the staff all signed confidentiality agreements. Who would dare to leak it?" Sarah said.."But in today's digital age, leaks happen all too easily. It's evident that someone from the inside deliberately leaked the information, inciting these malicious fans and trolls to disrupt your work," she added.

Before the words were finished, Caroline's phone rang. It was the director, William.

William had just arrived on set and was stunned by the crowd.

"William, it's Demi."

"What the hell is going on? How did you provoke so many people to come and cause trouble?" William roared.

"William, it's a long story. I don't know the exact reason either. It's probably because I offended Sawyer's fans. Someone is deliberately targeting me, organizing people to cause trouble."

"What do we do now? With so many people around, how do we film? What do you suggest?"

This question troubled Caroline even more. She had no solution either.
