Chapter 27

Nathan bailed, and Roxanne's plan totally flopped. She didn't have the guts to make Caroline slap herself anymore 'cause she figured out Nathan wasn't down to push Caroline over the edge.

This was the last thing Roxanne wanted, but things were going south fast. She had no clue what was going on.

Nathan was acting all weird, but he was always a tough nut to crack.

"Should we keep going? Let's not mess with the script; it gets all crazy when we do..." William started, but his phone buzzed. It was Jack.

After taking the call, William's face looked all kinds of confused.

The assistant director strolled over. "What's the deal now?"

"Jack says we gotta bump up the second female lead's scenes by like thirty percent, make her more evil, then have her go through hell, rise from the ashes, and finally figure out that love's better than hate," William said.

"If we do that, won't she basically become the lead? Ms. Campbell's scenes will get cut," the assistant director blurted out.

"Yeah, but Jack said it's Mr. Kennedy's call, so we gotta roll with it."

The assistant director scratched his little mustache. "That's weird. Demi embarrassed Mr. Kennedy big time, so why would he want to give her more scenes? What's the deal?"

William shrugged. "No idea. Mr. Kennedy's always doing unpredictable stuff. Him showing up on set today was already super weird. He's always busy and hardly ever visits, but here he was. Doesn't seem like he came for Ms. Campbell."

"How can you tell?"

"Didn't you see? Mr. Kennedy didn't even glance at Ms. Campbell He heard she got hit and didn't even ask if she was okay. That's not how a couple acts. And if he was mad, Demi would be in deep trouble. But look at it now: Demi's fine, and she's getting more scenes, basically making her the lead. Make any sense to you?"

The assistant director shook his head. "Nope, not at all. But Mr. Kennedy's the boss. If he says more scenes, we give more scenes."

While the two directors were scratching their heads, Caroline and Roxanne were still at each other's throats.

"You're lucky today. Mr. Kennedy's too busy to deal with you, but you won't be lucky every day," Roxanne snapped at Caroline.

"You're lucky today. Mr. Kennedy's too busy to deal with you, but he won't protect you every day," Caroline mocked back.

Roxanne was fuming. "Bitch!"

"Shameless," Caroline shot back with a grin.

The cameraman nearby was biting his lip, trying not to crack up.

Roxanne's face went pale with rage. "You..."

"You..." Caroline kept mimicking.

"Ms. Campbell, you're a big star, no need to stoop to the level of a minor character," Megan chimed in, trying to help.

Caroline sneered, "I'm a minor character? Then what are you? Don't forget I'm the second female lead, with more scenes than you. In a lot of future scenes, you'll be getting beat by me. I can't promise I won't make it real."

Megan was definitely scared. She'd seen Caroline slap Roxanne hard. Roxanne was a famous star, Nathan's girlfriend, and Caroline still went all out.

So Megan didn't dare to talk back, just glared at Caroline, fuming.

Roxanne slapped Megan. "It's all your fault for screwing things up!"

In her frustration, Roxanne took it out on Megan. She'd given Megan some toxic foundation to put in the makeup room for Caroline, but Caroline was totally fine.

If Caroline had been poisoned and her face had swollen, Roxanne wouldn't have had to deal with all this mess.

Megan, slapped, didn't dare to speak, just covered her face with her hand.

Caroline saw and heard everything, thinking, 'Screwing things up? What's the deal? Must be something against me. Gotta watch my back from now on.'
