Chapter 184
But when they arrived at the restaurant entrance, they found several bodyguards in black suits standing there, including two foreigners.
Five top chefs from all over the country gathered here to prepare dishes for Nathan's banquet for business leaders. Due to differences in culinary culture, the hotel's original chefs couldn't handle the task, so today's head chefs were all familiar with the culture of the business leaders' countries, and there could be no mistakes.
Sophie saw Nathan talking to the business leaders in the restaurant and shouted, "Uncle Nathan!"
Caroline wanted to stop her, but it was too late. "How can you be so rude? They are discussing important matters! How can you disturb them?" she scolded in a low voice.
Seeing the foreign bodyguards at the door, Caroline knew that Nathan must be meeting with important figures. The receptionist had also mentioned that important dignitaries would be staying here today.
Caroline intended to quietly take the kids back to the room, but Sophie suddenly shouted. Realizing her mistake, Sophie quickly shut her mouth, biting her lip pitifully, her eyes welling up with tears.
She was just happy to see Nathan and didn't consider that she might be disturbing others. A small child wouldn't think of such things, and even adults might not always be so considerate, let alone a child.
After being scolded by Caroline, Sophie felt very wronged. Nathan, who was talking to the business leaders, heard Sophie's childish voice. Jack, who was standing nearby, was about to go out and inform Caroline to leave, as this meeting was very important and involved a significant investment, and couldn't be disturbed.
But Nathan stopped him, smiled at the foreign guests, and said, "Excuse me for a moment." Then he stood up and walked out of the restaurant with long strides.
Caroline was about to leave with the kids when she saw Nathan coming out. She thought this was trouble and that Nathan would definitely hold her accountable. But it was indeed her fault for bringing the kids and disturbing such an important meeting.
"I'm sorry, Sophie is ignorant. I'll take her away immediately. I'm very sorry for the disturbance," Caroline said quickly.
Nathan was taken aback. She could speak like this? She seemed quite reasonable. In his impression, he had never heard Caroline speak so nicely.
He actually came out not to blame her but because Sophie had called him. If he didn't greet her, he was worried Sophie would feel neglected.
"I'm sorry. It's my fault. Please don't blame Mommy." Sophie was almost in tears.
Seeing Sophie's red eyes, Nathan's heart softened, and he hugged her tightly. "It's okay; I'm not angry."
"I'm sorry, I was just happy to see you," Sophie said.
"I know. It's okay. You go back to the room with Mommy first. I need to talk to that bearded gentleman. When I'm done, I'll call Caroline, and you can come back to eat, okay?"
Nathan's voice was gentle and full of affection, leaving Caroline stunned. She thought, 'Oh my, is this the same Nathan? She hadn't seen him speak so gently in a long time. Could he have a dual personality, one that is harsh to her and another that is gentle to the child?'
"Nathan, no rush. I'm not hungry," Sophie, the clever little one, responded brilliantly. She had been complaining about being hungry in the room earlier, but now she said she wasn't hungry!
"Then just wait a bit. I'll be done soon. Go back with Mommy now," Nathan said softly.
"Okay, Nathan, you go ahead. We're leaving now. Bye, Nathan," Sophie said obediently.
Caroline looked at Nathan apologetically. "I'm sorry, I didn't know you were entertaining foreign guests."
Nathan's face quickly turned cold. "It's normal for a child to be ignorant, but for an adult to be ignorant is just foolish."
This remark infuriated Caroline. He really did have a dual personality! He spoke sweetly to the child but turned cold to her in an instant.
"You're the foolish one," Caroline retorted through gritted teeth.
Nathan turned and walked back into the restaurant, ignoring her.
"Nathan, I was being nice to you, but you just had to act like a bossy CEO. That's too much!" Caroline cursed angrily.
"Mommy, don't be mad. Let's go back first and come back later for the delicious food," Sophie advised.
"Aren't you hungry? How about we eat something first?" Caroline said, feeling sorry for her.
"Not really. We'll eat the delicious food later," Sophie said, swallowing her saliva, looking obsessed with the food.
It seemed Nathan's words carried weight, even Sophie was willing to endure hunger and wait. Sure enough, it wasn't long before Nathan sent someone to invite them back.
When they arrived at the restaurant, Nathan was already waiting there. The previous dishes had been cleared, and more child-friendly dishes were served, but a few dishes from the business leader's country were kept, mainly for Ryan and Sophie to try something new.
Sophie cheered and eagerly prepared to dig in.
"Don't rush; eat slowly," Nathan said lovingly.
"Nathan, are you done with your business?" Ryan asked.
"Yes, it's all done, and it went smoothly without any issues," Nathan replied.
Hearing Nathan say this, Caroline was relieved. But Nathan completely ignored her, busy taking care of Ryan and Sophie.
But that was fine too. Their communication always ended in arguments. With so much delicious food in front of her, Caroline decided to eat without any reservations. Lately, she had been feeling too suffocated and needed to find comfort in food to cope with her sorrow.
Nathan watched Caroline eat heartily and thought, 'Isn't she afraid of gaining weight?'
"That's enough," Nathan couldn't help but say.
"Mr. Kennedy, you're too stingy. How much have I eaten? It's not like you're paying for it. Eating more won't cost you extra, will it?" Caroline put down her fork.
"You are acting in my investment project. If you gain weight and it affects your character's image, that's business," Nathan's meaning was clear: he was not meddling in her personal life; he was considering business!
"How much weight can I gain from one meal? How can I have the energy to lose weight if I'm not full?" Caroline said defiantly, picking up her fork and reaching for her favorite food.
"That's enough. Don't eat such high-calorie food. If you want to be an actress, you need to have some professionalism and be responsible to the investors," Nathan frowned.
Caroline immediately lost her appetite and thought he was really annoying. "You're too controlling! No wonder you haven't been able to find a wife all these years!"
As soon as she said this, everyone was shocked. Even Sophie, with her greasy mouth, stopped and looked at Nathan, wanting to know how he would explain this.
Nathan really wanted to dump the plate of food on Caroline's head. Was it appropriate for her to say this in front of the kids?
