Chapter 204

When Caroline woke up, she felt like her head was splitting open from the pain.

Then she found herself in a hotel room, with a worried-looking Joseph sitting beside her.

"Why am I here?" Caroline sat up, rubbing her temples as she asked.

"You drank too much, so I found the nearest hotel for you to rest," Joseph explained.

Hearing this, Caroline vaguely remembered. She had only had two glasses of wine last night, but somehow she got so drunk she couldn't even stand.

She glanced at the time; it was already 9 PM.

"I need to go home. Where's my phone?" Caroline asked.

"It should be in your bag. I heard it ringing earlier," Joseph pointed to the bag on the table.

Caroline grabbed her bag and indeed found her phone, but it was on silent mode. The screen showed a bunch of missed calls, most of them from Sarah.

As soon as she dialed Sarah's number, a furious voice came through, "Caroline! What the hell are you doing? How shameless can you be? You just behaved for a few days, and now you're at it again. Are you that desperate for a man?"

Caroline was taken aback by the scolding. "Sarah, calm down. What happened?"

"How dare you ask me? Look at Facebook. I sent you the photos. The internet is blowing up! You're shameless. Do you want to get fired? Do you want to drag me down with you?" Sarah's voice was so agitated it was almost in tears, continuously cursing.

Caroline quickly opened Facebook and saw the photos Sarah had shared.

The people in the photos were very intimate. The man was half-lying on top of the woman, and the woman's arm was around his neck. The scene was quite provocative. The background was very familiar—it was the room she was in.

The woman was herself, and the man was the anxious Joseph.

"What the hell did you do?" Caroline jumped up in anger.

"I didn't do anything!" Joseph was so anxious he was almost in tears. "When I helped you in, I didn't have time to close the door, and someone took photos from outside. I chased after them, but they were already gone. I really didn't do anything. This is a setup!"

"A setup? Who would set you up? Do you think I'm an idiot? I know my drinking capacity. There's no way I would be knocked out by two drinks. You must have drugged my drink. You're the one who set me up!" Caroline was furious, looking around and grabbing the TV remote to throw at Joseph.

Joseph dodged it lightly.

"Carol, please believe me. I didn't drug you. Maybe you got drunk easily because you were in a bad mood. It's my fault for not closing the door, giving someone an opportunity. If I really wanted to do something to you, I would have done it directly."

"Shut up!" Caroline interrupted him sharply.

Joseph closed his mouth, looking aggrieved and unwilling.

"Who would know we are here? Who followed us to take photos?" Caroline questioned.

"I don't know. You're quite famous online. Maybe a fan recognized you," Joseph shrugged helplessly.

Caroline thought about it. It wasn't entirely impossible. The last time she stayed at a hotel, the front desk staff recognized her. But this was clearly not a coincidence.

Thinking of this, Caroline suddenly had an idea. "Why would I actively put my arm around your neck? It doesn't make sense."

"That's what you did at the time," Joseph's eyes were evasive.

"And the person took so many photos from different angles. It was clearly well-planned," Caroline pressed on.

"It's really not like that," Joseph's eyes avoided hers even more.

"Do you know these photos are already viral online? I'm being viciously attacked again. Do you understand how serious the consequences are?" Caroline looked at him coldly.

"I'm sorry. I never thought things would turn out this way. I just wanted to be nice to you, but I always mess up. I'm sorry."

Caroline looked at Joseph, thinking he must be hiding something.

Why would he do this? She has no grudge against him, so why is he always causing her trouble?

Since force won't work, Caroline has to outsmart him.

"Are you sure this has nothing to do with you?" Caroline asked.

"Absolutely not. Carol. I love you. I don't want you to have any trouble, but I'm really clumsy and always mess things up. I'm sorry." Joseph said.

"Forget it. It's my fault for drinking too much. I'll be more careful in the future. So what do we do now? How do we mitigate the negative impact?" he asked anxiously.

"How did you know I was being attacked online?" Caroline countered.

"I guessed. You're a public figure. People would definitely attack you for something like this. I'm sorry, Carol, but please believe me. I truly love you and want you to have a better life."

Caroline sneered, "If you really love me, what you're doing now isn't enough. You should take me to meet your family and friends and officially announce we're together."

"That..." Joseph hesitated visibly.

"Not daring to introduce me to your family means you are not who you say you are," Caroline said firmly.

"I agree," Joseph hurriedly agreed, but there was a hint of hesitation in his eyes.
