Chapter 43

"It was them who wanted to chase after Ryan and handed it to me. I didn't ask for it," Sophie pouted.

Caroline snapped, "You think that makes it okay? Anyway, don't eat food from strangers."

Sophie, though reluctant, shut her mouth and stopped arguing.

After dropping off the kids, Sarah and Caroline headed to the set together.

"The psychologist called and said the kids need a follow-up today. I'll take them after school," Sarah said.

Caroline nodded. "I'll take half a day off to go with the kids."

Sarah stopped her. "No need, the doctor said having parents there isn't good for the session. I'll go with them."

Sarah knew Caroline's struggles on the crew. With Roxanne's pressure, it was already tough for Caroline not to take leave.

If Caroline frequently took leave, Roxanne would definitely use it against her, accusing Caroline of delaying the shooting schedule. So, Sarah hid the doctor's request for parents to come along, so Caroline could work in peace.

"Thanks a lot. I have to pick up an old friend returning from abroad tonight. I owe him money, and if I don't pick him up, he'll definitely come to collect. He's very stingy," Caroline sighed helplessly.

Sarah asked, "Isn't that the friend who helped you get the kids into school?"

Caroline replied, "Yeah, that's Tony."

"Then I'll go with you. He got the kids into Child's Play Nursery with just one call. He must have some impressive connections. I want to meet him," Sarah said excitedly.

"No need; you'll be disappointed when you meet him. He's uneducated and even more unreliable than I am," Caroline responded disdainfully.

"Really? Hard to imagine someone more unreliable than you. He solved something that cost others millions of dollars with just one call. How could he be that bad?" Sarah doubted.

Caroline pouted. "I don't know how he did it, but he really has no taste. Forget it, I need to get ready to leave."

At 5 PM, Sarah arrived on time to pick up Ryan and Sophie.

"We're going to see Harper later. Don't be nervous. Just answer her questions and do what she says," Sarah instructed.

"Okay, Sarah, we're not scared," Sophie responded loudly.

Ryan nodded silently.

Child's Play Nursery was not far from Harper's psychology clinic. Sarah called Harper first, informing her they would arrive in ten minutes.

When they arrived, Harper told Sarah that adults didn't need to accompany them and that she could handle her own matters and come back in an hour to pick up the kids.

Trusting Harper and knowing Ryan and Sophie's capabilities, Sarah left Ryan and Sophie with Harper and went to a nearby supermarket to buy groceries, planning to cook a hearty dinner for them.

Harper first asked Ryan and Sophie some questions to confirm if they had any psychological trauma from the incident.

Ryan and Sophie's performance shocked her. Their intelligence and psychological resilience were far beyond that of typical four-year-olds.

"Sweethearts, there's a very handsome man who looks a lot like you. He wants to meet you. Would you like to see him?" Harper asked gently.

Sophie looked at Ryan, waiting for his decision. Ryan shook his head. Caroline had said not to take things from strangers and not to go with strangers. If a stranger talked to them, politely refused. This handsome man was a stranger, so they naturally couldn't meet him.

"Ryan says no," Sophie uttered.

"He's not a bad person. He's my friend. I promise he means no harm," Harper explained.

Sophie looked at Ryan again, but Ryan still shook his head, thinking that meeting irrelevant people was unnecessary.

At that moment, Harper got a call from Nathan, saying he was already at the office entrance.

Usually, it took months to schedule a meal with him. Was he really that eager to meet the kids? Harper felt a twinge of jealousy. These kids must be more charming than she was.

Harper whispered to Nathan, "I told them, but the kids don't want to see you."

Nathan was momentarily at a loss. He had never met the kids, nor did he know their parents. This sudden meeting was indeed abrupt.

In Aurora City, many elites and dignitaries had to queue up to see Nathan. Unexpectedly, today he wanted to see Ryan and Sophie, but they refused.

Nathan never thought he would face rejection, especially from children.

The phone was silent, and Harper knew Nathan was listening.

"Should I try to persuade them again, or do you want to wait at the door and pretend to meet by chance?" Harper suggested.

"Alright," Nathan responded briefly.

Hanging up the phone, Nathan felt quite defeated. He had come with sincerity.

Nathan had Jack prepare gifts for today’s meeting. They were two cute stuffed animals and two boxes of desserts made by a famous pastry chef in Aurora City.

To avoid scaring the kids, Nathan didn't bring any entourage and drove himself.

However, Nathan didn't get to see Ryan and Sophie.

Nathan couldn't force his way in, as that would frighten the kids. He could only sit in his car and wait.

Feeling a surge of frustration, Nathan took a deep breath, pulled out his phone, and handled some work emails to calm himself.

Meanwhile, Harper continued to persuade Ryan and Sophie, "The handsome guy who wants to see you is outside. If you don't want to see him, I'll ask him to leave, okay?"

Sophie looked at Ryan. "Since he's already here, let's meet him. What if he has something important to tell us?"

Harper almost laughed out loud. Sophie was so adorable, thinking Nathan might have something important to ask.

Ryan didn't answer immediately and fell into deep thought.

"Besides, with Harper here, we're very safe," Sophie tried to use logic to convince Ryan.

Ryan understood that Sophie wanted to meet him. Since there was no risk, they might as well meet him. He nodded.

Harper breathed a sigh of relief. Ryan finally agreed!

As soon as the phone rang, Nathan picked up immediately, "How's it going?"

"It's okay now!" Harper's tone was full of excitement.

Nathan also felt a sense of relief. The kids finally secured the precious meeting opportunity!

"Should I come over now?" Nathan asked.

"Come on," Harper replied.

A few minutes later, Nathan appeared at the therapy room door, holding two stuffed animals.

Harper was too surprised to speak. She had been friends with Nathan for years and had never seen him holding stuffed animals like this.

Nathan, a top figure in Aurora City, known for his cold, decisive, and unattainable image, was the perfect male idol in the hearts of many people.

At this moment, Nathan, with a hint of nervousness, stood holding two childish stuffed animals. It was hard to believe.

Harper frowned slightly. Was this really Nathan?

"Are you Nathan?" Sophie saw it was Nathan and exclaimed!

Nathan and Harper were equally surprised. How did this child know him?

"My name is Nathan Kennedy," Nathan introduced himself with a smile.

Harper could hardly believe it. Nathan actually introduced himself!

This was unprecedented in Aurora City!

Here, Nathan was a brand that needed no explanation. Anyone with some knowledge could recognize him. If someone didn't know Nathan, it just meant they weren't qualified enough.

Nathan almost never introduced himself. But today, he sincerely and proactively introduced himself to Ryan and Sophie!
