Chapter 126

The euphoria gradually subsided, and Nathan realized his had lost his composure.

He had actually hugged Caroline, whom he was supposed to despise.

Awkwardly, Nathan turned to inquire about the details of the Ryan incident.

Ryan explained his scheme to Nathan in detail. With Nathan's approval, he arranged for everyone to continue the charade for a while before wrapping things up.

Next, they planned how to stage a "ghost interrogation" to deal with Roxanne.

Although Nathan agreed, he had no intention of participating personally.

He considered himself too dignified to be involved in such trivial matters.

So, he left the planning and execution to Ryan and Caroline, while he waited for the results.

Upon learning the truth about Caroline and her son's faked deaths, Nathan was convinced that Roxanne was the real culprit.

The "verification" was merely a way for Caroline to vent her anger.

When Roxanne was tied up, she knew her fate was sealed. She understood Nathan well; once the truth surfaced, she would be left with nothing. Her worst fear haunted her dreams, where Caroline married into the Kennedy Family, leaving her destitute.

As Caroline and Ryan approached, she glared at them with malice.

"Roxanne, the game is over. You don't have to pretend to be kind anymore. This is a relief for you too," Caroline said.

"You vicious woman, coming up with the idea of faking your death. You're no saint either!" Roxanne cursed.

Ryan called out, "Sophie!"

Sophie responded loudly, walking over arrogantly with a small snake in hand. She brought the snake close to Roxanne's collar and taunted, "Want to let it crawl in? Is it fun?"

"

Roxanne screamed, her face pale. "Help! I was wrong!"

Sophie smugly pulled back the snake. "Bad woman, you dare to hurt my mommy. Admit your mistake!"

"I said it already," Roxanne completely surrendered.

She knew this family was not to be trifled with, especially this snake-wielding Sophie.

"Louder, say it again!" Sophie's childish yet authoritative voice demanded.

"I was wrong!"

"Louder!"

"Enough," Caroline stopped Sophie.

Despite Roxanne's vile nature, Caroline didn't want Ryan and Sophie to take things too far. Adult conflicts were one thing, but she couldn't condone encouraging children to act maliciously, even against a villain.

Sophie snorted contemptuously at Roxanne and left with the snake, causing others to quickly step aside.

No one understood how such a cute Sophie could walk around with a snake. Why wasn't she afraid?

"Caroline, let Nathan release me, and I'll hand over the USB stick."

"Not this again. I don't need that USB stick," Caroline sneered.

"No, you definitely want it. It's your mother's keepsake. You can't not want to know what's on it."

"Yes, I want to know, but I won't be manipulated by you for a USB stick. I have my principles."

"We're half-sisters. Can you really bear to see me trapped in this foreign wilderness?"

"I can."

Roxanne was stunned. "I beg you; I just made a mistake. Please forgive me."

Villains always seemed to switch from threats to begging in an instant.

Caroline watched this drama coldly, suddenly feeling bored.

"Enough, stop acting. It's really tiresome. You may have harmed me, but I won't let Nathan make things difficult for you. How to deal with you is his decision," Caroline said flatly.

Roxanne felt slightly relieved.

Although there was no affection between her and Nathan, their nominal relationship had lasted a long time. She believed he wouldn't abandon her.

Nathan was powerful and influential, not one to excessively punish a woman. Roxanne was certain of this.

So, her greatest fear was the revenge of Caroline and her son.

Now that Caroline had voluntarily said she wouldn't take advantage of her, it was undoubtedly good news.

"Caroline, as long as you let me return to Silver Lake City, the USB stick will be yours. I won't go back on my word," Roxanne said.

Caroline nodded. "Alright, then, were you involved in my children's kidnapping??"

Roxanne had already confessed this to Sawyer, but the latter was mentally unstable and couldn't reveal it.

Roxanne hesitated, considering whether to tell the truth.

From Roxanne's expression, Caroline knew she wouldn't tell the truth.

"If you don't tell the truth, I'll have Ryan teach you a lesson. After all, you poisoned us, so let's call it even. As for the USB stick, I'm no longer interested. My mother has been gone for years, and those secrets can vanish with the wind." With that, Caroline turned to leave.

"Wait, your children's kidnapping had nothing to do with me. I don't have the power to mobilize so many people to attack you."

Caroline was puzzled by this as well. Roxanne might be capable of minor tricks, but commanding a large number of professionals was beyond her ability.

For Caroline, she didn't truly want Roxanne to meet her end here.

Considering all the harm Roxanne had caused her, it was perfectly understandable for Caroline to feel resentful..

But hatred aside, Caroline wasn't someone who easily harbored thoughts of killing.

If Nathan asked how to deal with Roxanne, she would still suggest sending Roxanne back to Aurora City.

Moreover, Caroline was also eager to uncover the secrets left on her mother's USB stick.

At this moment, Nathan walked by, and Roxanne suddenly bit her tongue hard, blood oozing out.

"I know I was wrong. I have no other way but to atone with my death," Roxanne shouted.

Caroline knew that Roxanne was doing this to get Nathan's attention.

She was willing to hurt herself to this extent, truly desperate.

However, Nathan seemed indifferent.

Roxanne was anxious. How could she be ignored after such a drastic act?

"Mr. Kennedy, please listen to me. I have my reasons! Please forgive me; I had no choice!" Roxanne pleaded.

Nathan paused his steps.

"Mr. Kennedy, she bit her tongue just to get your attention. Why don't you come over and listen?" Caroline said.

Nathan stopped and slowly walked towards them, staring silently at Roxanne.

"You two talk. I'll step aside. You can resolve this privately; I won't interfere."

Nathan picked up on the sarcasm in Caroline's words and found her especially irritating.

Under Nathan's cold gaze, Caroline walked away leisurely.

"Mr. Kennedy, I was wrong. I truly regret it, but I had my reasons. I harmed Demi because she once harmed me!" Roxanne tearfully confessed.

In such a dire situation, it was impossible to conceal genuine emotion.

Nathan's face remained stern, and he stayed silent.

"Mr. Kennedy, Demi's real name is Caroline. We are half-sisters!"

Nathan squinted. If even her name was fake, she must be hiding other secrets! He still remained silent.

"Mr. Kennedy, Caroline has always been cruel. As her sister, she never treated me with any respect and would often hit me. My whole childhood was defined by her bullying."

Nathan was about to walk away; family disputes didn't interest him.

"Mr. Kennedy, aren't you curious why she changed her name?" Roxanne quickly added.
