Chapter 147

"Ms. Murphy, please proceed with your second point," Jack subtly signaled to Caroline not to halt.

"The second point..." Caroline hesitated slightly. She had thought the first outrageous demand would anger Nathan and break off the negotiations, but to her surprise, he remained calm. For a moment, she couldn't think of a suitable second point.

"What is the second point?" Jack pretended to be focused, ready to take notes.

Caroline's mind raced. She had to come up with a second point immediately, and it had to be something Nathan would find hard to accept!

"Don't waste time. What exactly do you want to say?" Nathan said coldly.

"Caroline dropped a bombshell. "If Nick and I get hitched, there's a strict no-divorce rule for fifty years. And if we split before that, I walk away with sixty percent of Kennedy Corp's assets!"

Nathan and Jack were both stunned!

What kind of condition was this? A fifty-year unchanging marriage was even more absurd than a lifelong binding!

In a country that valued marital freedom, it wasn't uncommon to get married today and divorced tomorrow. He had ever heard of a marriage that had to last a lifetime from the start! She was clearly being unreasonable!

Caroline struggled to stifle a laugh at the incredulous looks on Jack and Nathan's faces.

She knew her demand was utterly ridiculous, but she was proud of her cleverness. She thought, 'I'm going to suggest terms you'll never accept. Let's see how you'll compel me to marry now!'

"Are you joking? Where in the world is there a lifelong marriage? Even if there's infidelity during the marriage, you can't divorce? And if you do, you get more than half of the assets?" Nathan was furious..

He suddenly realized that he had been played by her!

The conditions she proposed were impossible for anyone to accept, purely to make things difficult!

"You can think it over. If you agree, I'll marry. If not, then forget it!" Caroline pressed.

"Don't go too far. The Kennedy Family won't allow you to be so arrogant!" Nathan said angrily.

"I know, that's why I'm not keen on marrying into the Kennedy Family. But if you can be a bit more tolerant and accept my two conditions, I might consider it," Caroline said with a slight air of smugness.

Nathan didn't miss Caroline's hint of smugness, which only fueled his anger further.

"You will pay for your reckless actions," Nathan warned.

Caroline scoffed. After all, she was used to such threats.

"Can I leave now? Since everyone needs to think it over, the marriage matter naturally has to be put on hold," Caroline said.

Nathan remained silent, his face dark.

"Carefully considering a major life decision like marriage is perfectly normal. Let's leave it at that." Caroline stood up and walked out.

Nathan's gaze was like a blade, following her closely, making Caroline feel a bit guilty and not daring to look directly at him.

She had definitely angered him today. Caroline was unsure of what would happen next and felt a bit anxious.

It wasn't until she walked out of Nathan's office that Caroline breathed a sigh of relief.

Every time she came here, it felt as though she had just walked through the valley of the shadow of death.

At this moment, Sarah called.

"Get ready, don't forget about the high school reunion tonight," Sarah said.

"Reunion?"

"Yeah, a classmate contacted me a few days ago about organizing a reunion, and I agreed."

"But I didn't receive any notification."

"We're always together, so if I know, it's the same as you knowing, right? I already promised them I'd bring you, so you can't miss it."

"If you want to go, I won't hold you back, but why drag me along? I don't like those gatherings. After so many years, what common topics do we have? It's just awkward sitting there," Caroline complained.

"I'm your agent. Isn't it my responsibility to schedule some events for you? As an actress, it's crucial to enhance your public profile. If you don't leverage your connections, like your classmates, how do you expect to boost your popularity? I'm trying to help you here, and you're not even appreciative?" Sarah exclaimed.

"I just find it boring and don't want to go. But since you've agreed, I'll go. But if we both go, who will take care of the children? We can't bring them along, can we?"

"I've already arranged that. I've informed Jack, and he'll send someone to take them to the Kennedy Family," Sarah said.

Caroline was so furious she was on the verge of losing it.How could Sarah make such a big decision without consulting her?

"I just had a fight with Nathan, and now you're letting his assistant take the children?"

"I didn't know you were fighting. But the children are part of the Kennedy Family. No matter what happens between you and the Kennedy Family, they won't mistreat the children," Sarah reassured.

"At least you should have told me in advance."

"Well, I'm telling you now. Anyway, dress up nicely tonight. There's a surprise for you," Sarah said mysteriously.

"A surprise? What sort of surprise? Every time you mention a surprise, it always turns out to be a shock," Caroline expressed her dissatisfaction.

"Don't fret, this time it's a real surprise."

"So what exactly is the surprise? Tell me."

"Do you remember Joseph Miller?"

As soon as Caroline heard the name, an image of a handsome young boy flashed in her mind.

How could she forget? Joseph was her desk mate and the class's perfect male idol.

Once upon a time, he was the boy who made Caroline's heart flutter.

However, before that heart-pounding story could even begin, he transferred to another school.

Was he coming to the reunion?

When Caroline arrived, the reunion was already in full swing, with most of the classmates having arrived early.

Her appearance was like a stone thrown into a calm lake, instantly causing ripples. "Caroline is finally here!" Cheers erupted, clearly from the male classmates. The female classmates, on the other hand, scrutinized Caroline's outfit with sharp eyes, trying to glean details about her life from the labels on her clothes. If Caroline was wearing international brands, it meant she was living well; if her clothes were cheap, it suggested a life of hardship.

The men present highly appreciated Caroline's beauty, their enthusiasm was proof enough. Despite the passage of time, Caroline had not lost the charm of a young girl; instead, she had gained a touch of mature allure. Her skin was still as delicate as snow, and her figure even more graceful. Compared to her youthful self, she was now even more captivating.

The male classmates flocked around her like bees, eager to chat, shake hands, or give hugs. The female classmates were quickly pushed to the sidelines, their presence seemingly overshadowed by Caroline alone. Dissatisfaction started to simmer in the background.

Caroline knew well that such a scene would inevitably cause resentment among the other girls. So, she quickly extricated herself from the crowd and approached them. "Hey, everyone, long time no see."

The room fell into a deafening silence, the atmosphere turning uncomfortably chilly. Caroline had no desire to be the center of attention; how could she enjoy the gathering in such a situation?

Fortunately, Sarah stepped in to save the day. "You finally made it. We were just talking about you."

Caroline forced a smile. "Really? What were you talking about?"
