Chapter 200
Caroline came out of the shower and saw Sarah still clutching her old phone, unwilling to let go.
"What are you doing? You want this crappy phone?" Caroline frowned.
"I just wish this phone were mine," Sarah said dreamily.
"Oh my god, you want a junky phone? That's enough!" Caroline said disdainfully.
"It's not about the phone," Sarah muttered softly.
"What are you talking about? It's completely incomprehensible."
"Mr. Nathan Kennedy called you just now," Sarah finally got to the point.
"What did he say?" Caroline asked nonchalantly while drying her hair.
"Nothing much," Sarah said pitifully.
Caroline was taken aback, then burst into laughter. Indeed, Nathan was always like that, never saying more than necessary.
"You should call him back quickly," Sarah handed over the phone.
"No rush, my hair isn't dry yet," Caroline said casually.
"Oh my god, you're not going to return his call immediately? You want to dry your hair first?" Sarah exclaimed.
"Why should I have to put myself aside just to answer his call?" With that, Caroline went to blow-dry her hair.
"Oh my god, you're something else." Sarah shook her head.
Caroline slowly dried her hair and applied some night cream before picking up the phone to dial Nathan's number.
As soon as the call connected, Nathan's cold voice came through, "Why did it take you so long to call back?"
Caroline initially wanted to say she had just taken a shower, but then thought better of it. Why should he yell at her?
"Nathan, I'm not your subordinate; I don't need to return your call immediately," Caroline retorted softly.
"Come downstairs, there's a car waiting for you. Hurry up," Nathan said coldly.
"What's going on?"
"Ryan's in trouble; come quickly," Nathan said and then hung up abruptly.
Caroline panicked instantly, almost tripping. Ryan was in trouble? What happened?
Tears welled up in her eyes as she hurriedly redialed, but no one answered.
He must be doing this on purpose! Nathan was already in a bad mood, and she had just snapped at him, so he was deliberately making her anxious.
Caroline didn't care about anything else, grabbed her bag, and rushed out the door. "I need to go to the Kennedy Manor."
"What? Did Mr. Kennedy ask you to go? At least change your clothes!" Sarah shouted urgently.
"No time, I need to see the kids."
Caroline ran downstairs in her pink pajamas, and sure enough, a luxury car from the Kennedy Manor was waiting at the door.
The pink pajamas had Hello Kitty prints, which were really hard to look at. John, who came to pick her up, was also stunned.
So she has a childlike side? But these are pajamas, how could she go out in pajamas?
"Ms. Murphy," John couldn't even look directly at Caroline.
The pajamas were too personal, and John felt it was too awkward to look. But he had to look, as they were sitting in the same car, and his eyes couldn't help but glance over.
"John, what happened to Ryan?" Caroline asked urgently.
"Mr. Ryan Kennedy? I haven't heard of anything happening," John was also confused. They, the staff, hadn't received any notification and couldn't enter the inner courtyard of the Kennedy Manor, so he had no idea what was going on inside.
"You haven't heard anything?" Caroline became even more anxious.
"I was just instructed to pick you up; I really don't know the specifics," John said nervously.
"He just said Ryan was in trouble, and didn't say what exactly," Caroline said with a sob.
"Don't worry. If it were something major, I would know," John comforted.
Caroline felt a bit more at ease. John was one of the core members of the Kennedy family; if something major had happened, he would definitely know.
"Sorry, I was in such a hurry that I didn't have time to change. Please don't laugh at me," Caroline explained awkwardly.
"I won't, you look cute like this," John responded awkwardly.
The two remained silent for the rest of the journey. Awkward conversation was worse than silence.
Upon arriving at the Kennedy Manor, according to protocol, John reported Caroline's arrival outside and was not allowed to enter. After giving Caroline directions, she walked in alone.
Caroline was anxious and quickened her pace. The security in the inner courtyard saw a pink figure approaching rapidly on the monitor and immediately reported it.
When they learned it was Caroline in pink pajamas, everyone was shocked. How could there be such a casual woman at the Kennedy Manor, running around in pajamas?
Nathan saw Caroline dressed like that through the window and was instantly furious.
What did she think this place was? How could she be so casual! It was outrageous!
If Aiden had seen this, who knew how angry he would have been! At the Kennedy Manor, even the servants had to be neatly dressed when going out, and here she was, running around in exaggerated pajamas!
Nathan grabbed Caroline and dragged her inside, making her look very disheveled.
"Let go of me! What are you doing?" Caroline shouted angrily.
"What's with your outfit? Do you think this is a farmers' market?" Nathan asked furiously.
"Have you ever seen anyone wearing pajamas to a farmers' market?" Caroline retorted.
This retort left Nathan speechless. So she was implying that the Kennedy Manor was more casual than a farmers' market?
As they argued, Sophie heard the commotion and ran over.
"Mommy!" Sophie hugged Caroline's leg tightly, and Caroline's heart instantly softened.
"Sweetie, what's wrong?"
"Nothing, I just missed you a lot," Sophie said with a sob.
Ryan also came over, and Caroline squatted down, hugging both children, tears streaming down her face.
Nathan watched them and silently walked away, giving them some privacy.
"Ryan, what happened today? Nathan called me and scared me to death."
Ryan smiled and touched Caroline's face. "I'm fine, Mommy."
Sophie added, "Ryan wouldn't eat and insisted Nathan call you."
"What? How could you not eat? You mustn't do that again! You can throw a tantrum, break things, but never starve yourself."
Nathan, standing nearby, was furious. Her way of educating the children was outrageous.
"No, if we break things, we have to pay for them. We don't have that much money," Sophie said worriedly.
"Don't worry, you're still kids; they won't make you pay. If you're angry and want to see Mommy, you can call me directly. If they don't let you call me, then break things!" Caroline said proudly.
Nathan couldn't listen any longer and stepped forward to stop her. "Teaching the kids like this is absolutely wrong!"
Caroline pointed at Nathan triumphantly. "I knew you were eavesdropping, so I said it on purpose. Eavesdropping on my conversation is truly shameful!"
