Chapter 100 You Knew What I Mean
"Sorry, I overslept," she looked at Laura. "It seems I don't need to introduce you; you already know each other."
"In the future, we will all be on the same team. There is no need for introductions!" Cathy said with a hand directly on Laura's shoulder, smiling.
"Cathy, your attitude has changed too much. You weren't so friendly to me at the beginning." Evelyn shook her head, feeling unjust.
"It's different. I was unfriendly with you because you had got the job by pulling strings before, but this time, I am the one who greenlit her to do the same," Cathy joked, patting Laura's shoulder.
"It's so unfair!" Evelyn sighed. "Well, since you're here, let's get to work quickly. I need some help here. I want to get the new products out as soon as possible."
"Alright, you go ahead," Cathy said as she turned to Laura, "Your onboarding procedures will be completed in a couple of days. Is that OK with you?"
Laura nodded. "No problem."
The procedures could be done at any time. The key was whom to work with and whether she enjoyed her work.
"This place is nice!" Laura looked around the lab and praised it. "The facilities here are more comprehensive than my previous place. Wow, you've got everything here."
As Evelyn changed into her work clothes, she said, "Although Neogenito Fragrances is not large in scale, it is backed by the Seraphian Group, so the facilities in this lab are top-notch. Also, Cathy mentioned that if we need any equipment for our work, we can request it from the company."
"Big companies are indeed good! You made the right choice!" Laura also changed into her work clothes with her, washed her hands clean, and prepared to start working.
"By the way, did Liam give you a hard time when you left?" Seeing her relaxed demeanor, Evelyn asked, still concerned about the matter over there.
"I haven't even seen him." She waved her hand. "Anyway, according to the labor contract law, I have reached the time when I can resign automatically. He can't stop me. And... I have moved recently."
Leaning closer to Evelyn, she said with great joy.
"Moved?"
"Yeah." She nodded. "I've considered it. Although I can convince my mom, I'm afraid my mom will waver if he keeps bothering her. She's soft-hearted and easily swayed. And since I have to come over here anyway, I might as well move to a place closer to here, killing two birds with one stone."
"But, are you sure it's easy to find a place at such short notice? Do you want me to keep an eye out for you?"
Looking for a house is a tiring job, and Evenly felt sorry for Laura, as it was originally a tangle between herself and Liam, but it inexplicably involved Laura.
"No, I actually had this plan, so I've been paying attention to it for a while. When I made up my mind to come over, I immediately called the agency, and luckily, the house was still available, so I moved in. I am truly efficient, right?" Proudly raising her eyebrows, Laura said with a hint of boasting.
"Great then." Nodding, Evelyn began focusing on work, explaining her general ideas and the raw materials Laura should prepare.
After all, they were old partners. Laura listened attentively, making notes, and they each did their tasks, making the experiments go smoothly.
Every time a new product was launched, many different samples were prepared simultaneously for observation and data recording, as even slight differences could lead to significant variations in the final results.
The day quickly turned into night, and the sky darkened. Evelyn stretched her sore shoulders, walked out of the lab, and saw Laura carrying two cups of coffee and smiling at her as she walked toward the lounge. Evelyn said, "Perfect timing. Let's take a break."
Evelyn nodded, and they sat down on the sofa.
Watching Evelyn massage her neck and shoulders, Laura said with concern, "Are you tired? Let me give you a massage."
Laura would occasionally give Evenly a massage when they were at Liavian Perfumes, but it had been a long time.
Evelyn didn't refuse; she turned slightly and moved her hair to the side, revealing her slender neck. Laura then gently massaged her shoulders, and with this slight relaxation, Evelyn felt much more comfortable.
"It's so much better with you here. I've been really stressed these past few days, but now that you're here, I feel much more relaxed." Tilting her head back and closing her eyes, Evenly was starting to feel a bit sleepy.
Progress on the new product was slow, as it required repeated experiments, but now that Laura was here, Evenly would be relatively relaxed and energized.
"So, should you consider giving me a raise?" Laura joked, turning her head to look at her.
"Where have you ever heard of someone asking for a raise on their first day at work? You'd scare the boss away!" Evelyn disagreed with a shake of her head.
"Employees who don't proactively ask for a raise aren't good employees." Laura's eyes swept around, pausing at a certain spot, and her hand stopped massaging.
Sensing her hesitation, Evelyn opened her eyes. "What's wrong?"
"Evelyn, you..." hesitating, she didn't know how to broach the subject, but her gaze was fixed on a certain spot on her neck.
Lowering her head with some suspicion, Evelyn didn't see anything wrong with herself, but Laura's gaze was fixed on...
Raising her hand, Laura patted her own neck, showing Evelyn the location.
Following her gesture, Evelyn instantly remembered!
Originally covered by a high-necked shirt, it was exposed after Evelyn changed into work clothes.
But because she had been working all along, she hadn't paid attention, and now, with Laura massaging her, her hair was moved aside, revealing the hickey on her neck.
"Oh, this..." a bit embarrassed, but since they were all adults, there was no need to hide it. She smiled at Laura, "It's just a love bite, you know."
Laura chuckled at her reaction, "I know, I know! But... who did it?"
Since Liam was out of the picture, it definitely wasn't him, and she hadn't seen Evelyn getting close to anyone else.
In fact, over the past few years, the only male name that could be recalled in Evelyn's life was Liam. Apart from the laboratory, Evelyn's daily routine was largely confined to her rented abode. She seldom ventured out, even for shopping.
Evelyn had a new boyfriend? Who was it? Laura couldn't think of anyone.
"Do I know him?" After thinking for a moment, Laura asked again.
For Laura, it seemed like a simple question, but for Evelyn, it was quite difficult.
"I guess... you could say you know him."
With Samuel's reputation and status, there shouldn't be many people who didn't know about him, especially in Lindwood City. However, if it came to personal acquaintance, she probably had yet to have much contact with him.
