Chapter 167 Not a Money Issue
Jackson stepped forward. "I am the patient's Dad."
"He has a severe allergy. You need to be careful with his diet and avoid allergens, especially in food," The doctor briefly explained that the child was fine for now, but if not taken care of properly, there could be serious problems.
In fact, it was similar to what Evelyn had guessed. Evelyn was not a doctor, just familiar with how to deal with such allergic conditions.
After Ethan was settled in the ward and confirmed that everything was fine, Evelyn got up to leave. "Since everything is fine now, I'll take my leave."
"Wait." Jackson stopped Evelyn and walked up to her. "You saved Ethan. What reward do you want?"
Evelyn was puzzled.
"No need. It was just a small help. I didn't do much, actually. If you want to thank someone, you should thank the doctor." Evelyn pointed at the doctor, not intending to ask for any reward.
"Are you sure you don't want anything?" Jackson seemed surprised, emphasizing, "Whether it's money or anything else, as long as you want my help, feel free to ask."
"Evelyn, Jackson holds quite a bit of power in the Vistalia circle in Pareleson," Lisa tugged at Evelyn's sleeve and whispered, "If you need any help, don't hesitate to ask him."
Evelyn could guess even without Lisa's reminder.
Jackson's demeanor was different, especially when he asked Evelyn about a reward. It seemed like he was saying that he had money and power.
However, Evelyn really had nothing to ask from Jackson.
But seeing Jackson's confident look, Evelyn suddenly had a plan in her mind. "Mr. Parker, if you insist on a reward..."
"I'm not really short of money, and I'm not interested in other things. Have you heard of a perfume called 'Flowering Period'?" Evelyn smiled with a hint of mischief. "I quite like that one. If you really want to thank me, a bottle of that perfume would suffice."
"Flowering Period?" Jackson repeated as if afraid he had misheard.
"Yes." Evelyn nodded. "Well, it's getting late. I have things to do tomorrow, so I'll take my leave."
Evelyn was about to leave, and Lisa followed. "Evelyn, wait for me! I'm leaving, too!"
Lisa thought there was no point in staying here. Lisa followed Evelyn into the elevator, feeling quite uncomfortable. "I never thought Avery would be like this! I used to think she was doing it all for Ethan, and she was quite unfortunate. But now, it seems that Jackson has his reasons for not wanting her!"
"They're divorced?" Evelyn raised an eyebrow. Although she didn't pry into others' private affairs, she could roughly understand Avery and Jackson's conversation.
"They've been separated for a few years, to be precise. Jackson never married Avery. But Avery hasn't given up and always hopes for a reconciliation. I used to want to help Avery, but now I think they should be apart!" Lisa seemed genuinely angry.
Evelyn remained silent.
Regarding Avery and Jackson, Evelyn had only met them once and couldn't judge. It was a matter between the couple.
"By the way, Evelyn, the perfume you mentioned earlier, 'Flowering Period,' why does it sound unfamiliar to me? Is it a new product?" Despite Matthew being a top perfume maker and a big name in the fragrance industry, Lisa wasn't familiar with these things and wasn't involved in the field.
In Lisa's words, she had no talent or interest in this.
"It's not a new product. It's an old one, so old that it's been out of stock." Evelyn smiled knowingly. "That perfume was developed and launched over a hundred years ago by people from the R country. Not only does the perfume itself have special significance, but even the bottle it comes in is exquisite."
The perfume was out of production, with only two small bottles preserved in a museum in the R country. It was priceless, not a matter of money.
Evelyn was genuinely interested and wanted it, but she also knew that Jackson couldn't possibly get it. The request was more about dampening Jackson's arrogant attitude rather than actually wanting the "Flowering Period."
After hearing Evelyn's words, Lisa exclaimed, "Evelyn, you're becoming more admirable. Do you know that in the Vistalia circle, and even in the entire Pareleson, no one dares to play around with Jackson like this?"
"I am not playing him around. Jackson offered to reward me, and he let me set the conditions freely. I made a suggestion. Whether he can fulfill it or not is up to him. I didn't insist that he must get the 'Flowering Period.'" Evelyn shrugged, not seeing it as playing around with Jackson.
Well, there was a bit of teasing involved, but Evelyn didn't push for it.
Lisa shook her head. "You may not have pushed for it, but Jackson is someone of importance. If he promised you something, he will definitely deliver. Otherwise, with his status, it would be quite embarrassing if word got out, wouldn't it?"
Evelyn hesitated. "Is it that serious?"
"It is! For a man, especially someone like Jackson, his status is more important than anything else!" Lisa replied.
"Alright, I may have overlooked that. Next time I see Jackson, I'll tell him I've changed my mind and don't want it anymore." It had to be next time because Evelyn couldn't just go back to Jackson now and say she was joking.
Lisa was exasperated, patting Evelyn's shoulder. "Evelyn, how come I never noticed before that you have such a sense of humor?"
"Maybe I've been hiding it well, and now you've unearthed it," Evelyn joked with Lisa.
As they exited the elevator, Evelyn's phone rang. Even through her bag, she could feel the intense vibration. She took it out and glanced at the screen—it was Olivia. Her scalp tingled.
Sure enough, as soon as she answered, she heard Olivia's anxious voice. "Ms. Taylor, where have you been so late? I've been waiting for you for a long time. You didn't reply to my messages or calls. Do you know how worried I've been? Why didn't you tell me where you were going? Where are you now?"
"I'm outside. I'll be back soon." Evelyn checked the time, finding it was indeed very late.
"Okay, hurry back. It's not safe outside at night. I'll be waiting for you at the hotel." Olivia replied.
Finding Evelyn, Olivia breathed a sigh of relief, but she still insisted on waiting for Evelyn. They needed to discuss tomorrow's tasting competition further!
