Chapter 166 She Deserved It

This terror was nothing like the shocked scream Avery had let out earlier or the fierceness when she had tried to shake off Evelyn. It was as if she was a different person altogether. Her pretty face was etched with fear and anxiety.

Evelyn turned curiously and saw several men walking towards her. The one in the lead was Jackson Parker, wearing rimless glasses and a well-tailored designer suit, clearly accompanied by assistants and bodyguards behind him.

Jackson appeared calm, even with a hint of elegance.

"Jackson, you're here! Listen to me explain..." Although Avery was still very panicked, she still rushed forward, crying and pleading.

However, before Avery could reach Jackson, she was stopped by the bodyguard next to Jackson.

Jackson glanced coldly at Avery. "Where's Ethan?"

"Ethan is still inside. I don't know how it turned out like this. We were all very happy today, and he was happy, too. I don't know how this happened. I really don't know." Avery's speech was confusing, and she kept crying.

Raising an eyebrow, Evelyn felt a bit speechless, thinking, 'Are Avery and Jackson a couple? But no couple behaves like this; it looks quite strange.'

Evelyn turned to Lisa beside her, only to find that she seemed calm.

"Avery, I warned you not to meet Ethan alone privately. Are you pretending not to hear me?" Jackson said coldly, "If anything happens to him, you won't live to see another day!"

Jackson's voice was calm but carried a fierce undertone with each word. After hearing that, Evelyn felt a chill in her heart while Avery, trembling, seemed on the verge of collapse.

"No, you can't treat me like this." she cried. "I am his mother. You can't treat me like this!"

Watching Avery collapse in front of him, Jackson sneered. "Are you even worthy of being Ethan's mother?"

Evelyn remained silent, pondering, 'What a cold-blooded man he is!'

Avery cried for a while on the ground, then suddenly seemed to remember something. She turned her head towards Evelyn and pointed her purple nail-polished finger at her, saying, "No, it's not me; it's her!"

Evelyn was puzzled.

"It was her who did many strange things to Ethan just now. If something happens to Ethan, she must be involved! It's her!" Avery said.

Evelyn cursed in her mind, 'She deserves that!'

Evelyn felt helpless on the side.

Jackson's gaze turned towards Evelyn, who met his eyes without flinching. Evelyn had nothing to hide and no reason to fear.

"Jackson, you can't blame Evelyn for this. She was trying to save Ethan. I can testify to that!" Lisa explained.

It seemed Lisa knew Jackson as well, and she stepped forward to speak up for Evelyn. In fact, she was surprised by Avery's behavior.

"Hey, Lisa." Jackson nodded towards Evelyn, appearing somewhat composed. "Is she your friend?"

"Yes, my friend! Evelyn was trying to save Ethan and didn't harm him. I can guarantee that!" Lisa replied.

Avery interjected, "Lisa, is she a doctor? How can you be sure she didn't harm Ethan? Maybe Ethan was fine, but her meddling made it worse. She even put her dirty hands in Ethan's mouth..."

When Jackson heard this, his eyes behind the lenses flickered. "What have you done to him?"

"She put her hand in Ethan's mouth and unbuttoned his clothes. Jackson, it wasn't me. I couldn't harm him," Avery struggled to speak.

"If you were against it, why didn't you speak up then? Evelyn was clearly trying to save Ethan, and you know that; why tarnish Evelyn like this?" Even Lisa, as a friend of Avery's, couldn't tolerate it at this point.

She was so angry; despite considering Avery a friend and sympathizing with her, she couldn't believe Avery would slander Evelyn like this.

Evelyn was trying to save a life. In that moment of panic, when everyone was at a loss and frightened, only Evelyn took decisive action to help. Regardless of the outcome, her intentions were undoubtedly pure, yet Avery insisted on blaming Evelyn for harming Ethan! This was unacceptable behavior!

"I was just too anxious," Avery mumbled, her voice noticeably quieter.

Jackson completely ignored Avery, his eyes fixed on Evelyn. "Tell me, what did you do to Ethan?"

Avery remained expressionless, revealing nothing of her current emotions. She was deeply calculating, with her thoughts hidden beneath the surface.

"I assessed his condition and suspected a food allergy, but due to the urgency, I couldn't determine the allergen. Before the ambulance arrived, I had to take emergency measures to prevent the situation from worsening. So, I induced vomiting to expel what he had ingested, reducing the absorption of the allergen and then gave him some water to drink. I unbuttoned his clothes because severe allergies can cause breathing difficulties, and it would make him more comfortable." Evelyn explained her motivations candidly, "That's the situation. Whether you believe it or not is up to you."

After Evelyn finished speaking, Jackson didn't immediately respond. His eyes were deep, and although he remained silent, the suffocating atmosphere made it even more unbearable. The air seemed to thicken.

Jackson resembled Samuel in some ways. He exuded an aura of authority without anger, which made others take him seriously even without speaking. Jackson was a natural leader.

It was no wonder Avery was afraid to the point of collapse, but regardless of the reasons, using Evelyn as a scapegoat was not justified.

Shortly after, Jackson said, "Thank you."

Lisa breathed a sigh of relief, and Evelyn replied calmly, "You're welcome."

Only Avery, standing to the side, shouted in astonishment, "Jackson, why don't you believe me? You believe a stranger's words over mine. I am Ethan's mother!"

"I told you, you don't deserve to be Ethan's mother," Jackson said indifferently.

At that moment, the door to the emergency room opened, and a doctor walked out, asking, "Who is the family?"
