Chapter 133 An intriguing Young Man

"What nonsense!" Evelyn poked Laura back with a finger.

"In this world, sometimes things are hard to explain!" Laura sat down and thought her analysis made sense. "I think this is Liam doing too many bad things, invoking a divine intervention to administer retribution on his behalf."

Shaking her head, Evelyn said, "Alright, I'll go pay the bill, you gossip lover!"

"If I'm not gossiping, how much fun are you missing out on?" Laura retorted.

As Evelyn rose to her feet, her gaze fell upon Laura's phone resting on the tabletop, displaying the news images of the car accident. She thought, 'Is Liam facing punishment by God?'

After parting ways with Laura, Evelyn took a stroll on the street to see if there were any interesting small items and to pass the rare leisure time.

This was a place specializing in selling old items, some authentic and some fake, all requiring the eye to discern.

After walking two streets, Evelyn noticed an unmarked small shop. The storefront didn't look big, but the items were arranged neatly, showing the shop owner had a good sense of aesthetics.

Especially as she approached the shop's entrance, a faint fragrance wafted through the air.

It smelled good, not overpowering but with a unique elegance, matching the quaint charm of the shop.

Inside the shop, no one came to assist, as if the shop was deserted.

Evelyn looked around, and the shop mainly featured wooden carvings, mostly small carved ornaments or decorations made from wood.

Depending on the type of wood, the carved items varied.

Although the craftsmanship wasn't top-notch, each item had a unique shape, giving it a special feeling at first glance—different from other places, quite distinctive.

Evelyn circled the shop but didn't touch any of the items, nor did she leave.

After a while, she heard a clear male voice. "What are you looking for?"

Because of this voice, Evelyn finally noticed that there was indeed someone in the shop. He was sitting in a corner with his head down, almost invisible due to the lighting and surrounding objects.

At that moment, Alex Redwood raised his head, quietly gazing at Evelyn, his gaze as composed as the items in the shop.

"Nothing, just browsing," Evelyn smiled, "Boss, the fragrance in your shop is a bit chaotic, isn't it?"

"You're an interesting young lady. You come in and don't look at anything, yet you're concerned about the fragrance." Alex's tone was quite brusque.

Raising an eyebrow, Evelyn glanced at him sideways. This man looked quite young, probably no more than twenty, and he had the audacity to call Evelyn a little girl. Evelyn glanced at the wooden carving in front of Alex, which was still being polished and not yet completed.

"Did you carve all the items in this shop?" Evelyn asked.

"If you wish to make a purchase, feel free to do so; if not, that is also acceptable. It matters not who crafted the piece. When dining at a restaurant, do you inquire about the chef behind the meal you enjoy?" Alex seemed a bit impatient and wanted to sit back down after speaking.

However, Evelyn decided to dispute with Alex, "Of course, it matters. If the food isn't to my taste, even if a famous chef made it, I wouldn't enjoy it. If you carved these wooden items, which I might have bought, now I won't."

Gripping his carving knife, Alex hesitated. "Are you here to cause trouble?"

"What if I am?" Evelyn asked.

Ava thought, 'He is quite intriguing, with a youthful face but a tone that could provoke anger, yet lacking in finesse, getting upset after being challenged.'

"Get out if you're not buying anything! Don't waste my time! Don't disturb my work!" Alex said, clearly irritated.

What Alex actually emphasized was not to impede his work progress, rather than hindering his business dealings.

Though Alex's behavior was unique, Evelyn found it amusing. "Who said I'm not buying anything? I just haven't found anything appealing yet."

"We don't have what you're looking for, so leave!" Alex remarked.

It was the first time Evelyn had seen a shop owner actively driving away a customer. Just as she was about to speak, the curtain beside her was lifted, and an old man walked out, scolding, "You're driving away customers again! Do you want to work here or not? If not, get lost!"

"I..." Alex suddenly fell silent.

"So, you're not the boss." Evelyn looked at him knowingly.

"What?"

As if exposed and embarrassed, Alex quickly got angry, but was scolded by the old man. "How dare you! Watch your words! If you chase away customers, who will buy these shoddy carvings of yours? Shut up and get back to work. If you speak again, don't work here anymore!"

Reprimanded by the old man, Alex fell silent and obediently sat down to continue carving.

Watching this scene, Evelyn found Alex truly intriguing, igniting and extinguishing in a moment, straightforward in temperament.

"Miss, would you like to buy something? Shall I introduce you to some items?" The real owner, much more enthusiastic, addressed Evelyn with a different tone.

"No, I just came in to browse while passing by." Evelyn glanced around. "Boss, the wood in your shop is unique."

"You mean these wooden carvings?" The boss smiled, "Of course! The wooden carvings in our shop are all crafted by renowned artists, not only finely made but also uniquely styled. You won't find the same elsewhere. Bringing one home as a decoration will add sophistication and a powerful presence."

Alex sneered softly, seemingly disdainful. Evelyn heard it, looking at Alex.

Though Alex still had his head down, Evelyn was sure that the sound had come from him.

Alex was quite disgruntled.

Seeing Evelyn staring at Alex without speaking, the boss quickly explained, "He's our shop apprentice. He hasn't been here long. Don't listen to his nonsense; he doesn't know anything; he just helps me watch the shop."

Alex seemed to ignore what the boss said, continuing his work without pause.

"Do you want to buy for yourself or give it as a gift? What category and price range are you looking at? Let me recommend a few for you?"

Evelyn shook her head. "This wood..."

"Wood carvings!" The boss corrected Evelyn as if calling it wood would lower the status of his items.

"No, I meant the wood in your shop is very special, not just the carvings," Evelyn emphasized again, not admitting any mistake.

"Wood?" the boss seemed puzzled. "The wood used for wood carvings is what makes them special. What's so special about it?"
