Chapter 114 Originally Radiant
Evelyn didn't reply; she had already seen a car parked not far across the street.
At this time, on this road, the car parked there was really eye-catching, especially since the back door was already open. A tall figure came out from the back seat, walking straight towards her.
"Evelyn?" Seeing that she didn't respond, Laura called out to her again.
Following her gaze, a man walking towards them came into view. ?
Laura frowned as she watched him approach, even though it was late at night. Under the dim light of the street lamp, she could still clearly see his figure and facial features.
In a way, Laura felt like it was straight out of an artistic film, with carefully chosen angles, soft focus, and a halo effect around the man that made it hard to look away.
Even though she hadn't seen him before, from Evelyn's reaction, the locked gaze between the two, and the shocking news she had just been briefed on, Laura could guess who this person was without an introduction.
"Samule, I knew you would be here.," Evelyn spoke.
Having just seen the things Kyle brought, his quick responses to his messages, and the background of the car, Evelyn figured he must be close to the laboratory downstairs. At that moment, she was focused on the final stages of the experiment and had no time to think about anything else.
"Why aren't you wearing the clothes I brought you?" Seeing that she was only wearing a long-sleeved shirt, Samuel frowned disapprovingly and took off his jacket to put it on her.
"I was busy just now and didn't have time. I probably don't need it now." Saying this, Evelyn casually adjusted the clothes he had draped over her, which were still warm with his body heat.
"Can we go back now?" Samuel asked.
Evelyn nodded, then turned to Laura, who stood there with her mouth slightly agape, staring directly at Samuel, seemingly once again struck by his presence.
It was somewhat amusing to Evelyn, but she also felt it was a normal reaction.
Thinking about it, Evelyn realized how silly it was to blame it on different tastes. While opinions on beauty may vary, the perception of beauty itself shouldn't differ so drastically.
Samuel, naturally, was glamorous.
"Laura, come with us! It's late, and it's not safe to take a taxi. We'll drop you off on our way." She spoke directly.
Upon being asked, Laura, now back to her senses, shook her head repeatedly. "I'll call a cab myself. I won't bother you; you can go ahead, really!"
"What nonsense are you talking about? How can I leave you alone here at this late hour?" Putting her arm around Laura's shoulder, Evelyn led her towards the car without hesitation. "Besides, it's nice to have someone to talk to on such a night!"
Unable to break free, Laura was forced to follow them towards the car.
Meanwhile, someone left behind watched the two women's backs with a hint of helplessness, then reluctantly caught up with them.
As the car door opened, the interior was indeed warmer than the outside. Kyle turned his head slightly, about to speak.
In the corner of his eye, he accurately noticed Laura, who had entered first, and paused.
"It's you!" Laura pointed at him, then quickly covered her mouth, realizing she was on his turf.
Her mouth may have been covered, but her eyes widened as she stared at Kyle's profile. Her mind quickly pieced together various thoughts, and it soon became clear to her.
No wonder Kyle delivered the items; no wonder Laura had misunderstood. He must be Samuel's driver, so it made sense for him to deliver things for Samuel. Laura had mistakenly taken Kyle for Evelyn's boyfriend, leading to a big misunderstanding.
"Kyle, thank you for earlier!" Once inside, Evelyn immediately expressed her gratitude.
Evelyn hadn't seen Kyle earlier, but regardless, delivering items at such a late hour for her deserved a thank you.
"Mrs. Whitman, you are welcome," Kyle replied calmly, glanced at Laura, then turned back to focus on driving, hands on the steering wheel.
"Oh, this is my assistant and best friend, Laura." Evelyn thought it appropriate to make a formal introduction. "Laura, this is Samuel's assistant, Kyle."
Laura nodded, and seeing that he didn't turn back to acknowledge her, she suddenly leaned over and patted his shoulder. "Sorry about earlier!"
Caught off guard by the pat, Kyle jumped slightly, turning halfway to face Laura. "What?"
"Just now... I didn't know who you were and thought you might be an undercover corporate spy. I wasn't very friendly towards you. Sorry about that!" Laura was easy-going and not petty.
Laura's previous attitude was due to mistaking him for an adversary. Now that the misunderstanding had been cleared up, an apology was in order.
Moreover, she had just received the takeout that he had delivered.
Kyle probably didn't expect her to apologize, especially in such a straightforward and proactive manner. It wouldn't be right not to respond.
Kyle was just not accustomed to such a scenario and stiffly nodded. "It's... it's okay."
Laura grinned widely.
Kyle fell silent.
Kyle averted his gaze, assuming an upright and attentive posture as he firmly grasped the steering wheel, his silhouette erect.
By now, Samuel had also entered the car and closed the door. "Let's go."
Evelyn turned to Laura. "Where's your new address after moving? You mentioned it's not far from the company, right?"
"Yes." Laura casually provided an address. Evelyn didn't recognize it, and she asked, "Kyle, do you know it? Let's drop Laura off there first before heading back."
"I do." Kyle nodded, and the car started moving.
Once the car was in motion, Laura instinctively moved closer to the door, turned her head to look out the window, and remained silent.
She felt embarrassed for interrupting what seemed like a romantic moment between the couple; she had to be considerate.
Unfortunately, Evelyn didn't quite grasp her intentions. Fearing Laura might feel awkward in this setting, Evelyn moved closer to her, linking their arms. "Laura, take a few days to organize your materials; there's nothing urgent. Afterward, I might need to prepare another new product, and we can discuss the general ideas then."
Laura nodded, not saying another word. Even without looking at her, she could sense Samuel's strong presence.
"I'm considering a different approach, thinking of changing the target consumer group. What do you think..." Evelyn said.
"I think since it's after work hours, let's not discuss work anymore, okay?" Samuel's deep voice sounded beside her, and he casually pulled her towards him.
