Chapter 97 You love the Lab More Than You Love Me

However, Laura didn't expect Evelyn to be angry.

"I don't need it!" Her tone was very harsh, her face serious. Evelyn was genuinely angry.

"Evelyn, I..." Laura was taken aback by her strong reaction. "Did I... make a mistake?"

"Of course, you did!" Evelyn emphasized, "What do you think you are? What do you think of me as? I know they will definitely release new products. Liavian Perfumes has been relying on past accumulations for a while now. Without new products, they won't last long. However, I have no interest in what new products they release or what formulas they use. Laura, you've been in this industry for so long. You should know what to do and what not to do."

"Is it your job to snoop around for formulas? Do you think I can't handle them, so I need you to go undercover and be a spy?" Evelyn paused, speaking slowly, "Laura, I don't need this kind of 'revenge'. Come to me, be my assistant; that's where you should be."

Laura was speechless.

After being reprimanded, Laura fell silent for a moment. "I'm sorry."

She was wrong. She thought this would be the best revenge, the best way to vent for Evelyn. However, she forgot that by doing so, she was no different from Liam and his companions who had monopolized Evelyn's research results and formulas. While Laura now wanted to peek at their formulas and tell Evelyn about them, she was no different from them.

"Laura, I know you did it for me, but if you really want to help me, come over and help me with my experiments. I have a new idea I've been experimenting with recently, and I'm too busy to handle it alone. Your contract is about to end anyway, so come over," Evelyn said sincerely, pushing the contract forward again.

This time, Laura didn't refuse. She reached out and took it, glanced at it roughly, and half-jokingly said, "The salary is not as much as what I have now!"

"As long as you work hard, you will definitely get a raise. You can reap substantial rewards merely from project-based commissions," Evelyn smiled.

"Well, then, I'll... make a shift to it!"

Laura pretended to look unhappy, as if she was very aggrieved. In fact, she was delighted.

Being able to leave that suffocating environment, return to familiar friends, and do what she loved simply made her too happy.

Evelyn returned home at almost midnight. She had been very busy lately and had come back late every time.

Fortunately, Samuel was also very busy recently; both of them were busy, and they had yet to see each other properly for several days.

When she returned to the room and saw it empty, an overwhelming longing hit her. She really missed Samuel.

In the past, Evelyn often worked late like this, coming home alone, sleeping alone, and taking care of herself alone. Even when Liam occasionally came over, he would accompany her for a meal and leave. At that time, she didn't feel this kind of loneliness and longing.

Perhaps out of habit, she had grown accustomed to his companionship and indulgence and had gradually started to develop a slight dependency on Samuel.

After taking a shower, Evelyn went to bed, realizing it was getting late at night; she thought for a moment and decided to send him a message.

Evelyn: [Not coming back today?]

Without waiting for his reply, Evelyn lay down on the bed and fell asleep directly.

She was exhausted. Even when Samuel came back, she didn't notice. He hugged her from behind, but Evelyn still didn't wake up.

Evelyn just felt someone embrace her from behind. She murmured as she turned around, opening her arms and holding him tightly, almost leaning on him entirely.

Samuel fell silent.

In the middle of the night, he rushed back tiredly, only to find that Evelyn was sleeping and that she had just embraced him with open arms in her sleep.

He didn't know whether to be happy or angry.

Samuel was happy about her initiative but also annoyed by her obliviousness. What if it was not him but someone else?

"Evelyn, Evelyn..." He called her name softly by her ear.

"Don't disturb. It's noisy!" She waved her hand, looking annoyed and impatient.

Samuel fell silent.

Even though Evelyn found it noisy, she held him tightly, even burying her head in his chest as if doing so would drown out the noise.

He wanted to say something but could only sigh softly. 'Well, let's talk about it tomorrow!'

After all, he had spoiled her!

He relaxed his body, allowing her to pillow against him, and soon fell asleep.

Evelyn slept comfortably, woke up refreshed, and wanted to stretch. However, realizing her limbs seemed to be pinned down, she suddenly opened her eyes.

The handsome face in front of her, who else could it be but her beloved?

"Samuel!" Evelyn exclaimed in surprise, "When did you come back?"

Opening her eyes, she looked into his obsidian-like eyes. Samuel hummed lightly, finally able to get even with her from last night. "You didn't even know who it was and just snuggled up. Do you have any sense of caution at all?"

Samuel lightly tapped her forehead, of course, not using much force. Evelyn covered her head with her hand. "Are there any other men in this house besides you?"

"What if a bad guy breaks in?"

"Come on! Do you think Emberwood Residence's security system is just for show? It's not that easy to break in here! Even if someone breaks into the neighborhood, your house also has a defense system." Evelyn dismissed the possibility.

Samuel was surprised. "How do you know my house has a defense system?"

Evelyn had lived here for a while now, and upon a brief exploration, she discerned the security measures here, albeit slightly inferior to those of the Jones family.

But for civilian use, it was more than enough.

"I... just guessed!" She quickly found a reasonable explanation. "Haven't they shown on TV that people of your level would definitely have some defense measures around the house? Otherwise, your house would have been emptied by thieves long ago."

Samuel raised an eyebrow; this explanation seemed to make sense.

"Does it mean that you trust me a lot?" Sensing she wanted to get up, Samuel turned his wrist and pulled her back down, prompting her to nestle back into the cradle of his arms.

"Samuel, stop it. I have to go to the lab." Evelyn struggled to get up, and she wouldn't feel at ease until she finished her experiments.

"You've been spending more time in the lab than with me lately. I'm considering having the company take back your lab," Leaning against her shoulder, he grumbled discontentedly.

Evelyn replied, "...Boss, you can't be so petty!"

Samuel rolled over and pressed her down, smiling, "Then... let's settle this privately!"
