Chapter 26 Some Fate Is Called a Fateful Fate
Liam took action this time. He quickly posted a lawyer's letter on the company's website, stating that he was going to sue Evelyn and demanding her to apologize and compensate the company for its losses.
Not only did he post it on the company's website, but there was also a statement from Liavian Perfumes on platforms like Instagram. It looked like he meant business.
With Liavian Perfumes taking a strong stance and Neogenito Fragrances not releasing any statement at all, the public opinion became very clear.
Although the incident at the press conference had confused people and some even believed Evelyn was innocent, they quickly changed their stance because of Liavian Perfumes' statement.
Since Neogenito Fragrances were not guilty, why didn't they release a statement? And why couldn't Evelyn provide evidence?
…
In the face of the lawsuit from Liavian Perfumes, Evelyn remained calm. She responded, but only forwarded the news of the lawyer's letter with the words, "I'm always ready."
Those seemingly calm words were filled with contempt, as if one could see the disdain in her eyes. She didn't take Liavian Perfumes' warning seriously at all.
Her response immediately sparked a discussion and became big news.
Originally, the perfume industry was not considered mainstream. Perfumes and cosmetics rarely received so much attention unless there were new products or popular celebrity endorsements.
But recently, they had been in the news frequently because of this "scandal."
The incident had escalated significantly. Numerous viewers expressed astonishment at the extent of the plagiarism involved. Both sides vehemently denied the accusations, asserting their innocence. Determining the truth proved challenging.
In contrast to the fervor of the audience, the involved parties appeared unnervingly composed.
…
At this moment, Evelyn was on her way to Neogenito Fragrances when she received a call from Laura.
"You're back from your vacation?" Evelyn said with a relaxed smile
But Laura anxiously said, "I saw the company's lawyer's letter outside. How are you? Do you need me to testify for you in court?"
Evelyn laughed and said, "No."
"Don't worry about me getting involved. Even if I don't come forward, Liam won't let me off the hook." Laura understood him very well.
During this time, she had made an excuse to take a vacation, powered down her work phone, and relied solely on her personal device.
Only upon her return did she finally check her phone, discovering numerous urgent messages imploring her to cut short her vacation and return to the company. One could only imagine the flurry of calls the other party must have made.
She didn't need to ponder deeply to figure out why she was being summoned back.
"I'm not afraid of dragging you down. I really don't need it." Evelyn paused and continued, "Don't worry. If I need you, I will definitely let you know."
Since she had said this, Laura could only nod and say, "Okay, then take care of yourself."
Laura admired and trusted Evelyn very much. Having been with Evelyn for so long, Laura admired her and her perfume-blending talent. But this time was different.
After all, Liam was the CEO of the company. Moreover, everyone in the company had to listen to him, but Evelyn had been in the lab for most of these years and rarely had contact with people in the company. The only person who could prove that these perfumes were Evelyn's was Laura.
Furthermore, the confiscated files placed Evelyn at a disadvantage, lacking both crucial evidence and physical documentation.Laura didn't know what gave Evelyn confidence. Was it the confidence given by Neogenito Fragrances?
But Neogenito Fragrances was just a subsidiary of the Seraphian Group, and they were not sure of its position in the parent company. Furthermore, no one from Neogenito Fragrances had come forward to help her so far.
Laura still worried. Coupled with Liam's constant urging, she decided to go back to the office to help Evelyn and see how things were going.
…
Evelyn officially reported to Neogenito Fragrances.
They had already discussed it before, but they hadn't signed a contract. They agreed on a time yesterday, so today was her first day coming over.
As Samuel put it, she needed to familiarize herself with the environment first and then officially join.
At Evelyn's strong request, Samuel did not intervene much, just asked Kyle to arrange it. However, even so, she knew her arrival would not be so peaceful.
Navigating through the office area, she headed directly to the office of the general manager at Neogenito Fragrances. Upon arrival, she found three people already waiting, two of whom she had met before.
"Mr. Carter."
The person sitting in the middle was Nasir Carter, the general manager of Neogenito Fragrances. The man on the left was the manager of the human resources department. Evelyn had met these two people before, but the woman on the other side was unfamiliar to her.
When Evelyn arrived, Nasir stood up immediately and walked towards her, circling the desk. He gently placed his hand on her shoulder. "Evelyn, welcome to Neogenito Fragrances!"
"Hello, Mr. Carter. Hello, Mr. White," she politely greeted them and then looked at the woman, pausing.
"Let me introduce you. This is Cathy White, the manager of the project department. She is a very professional woman. I hope you will cooperate well in the future," Nasir said with a smile.
"Hello, Ms. White," Evelyn greeted politely. But she had an intuitive feeling that her future boss might not be easy to get along with.
As expected, Cathy just nodded slightly and then no longer looked at her. "Mr. Carter, the project department is not lacking people."
"You may not lack people, but you lack talented individuals! Neogenito Fragrances is still in its early stages of development and very much needs people who can bring benefits to the company.
"Evelyn is fully capable, so you should lead her seriously. This will inject fresh energy into your project department." Nasir's words indicated that Cathy couldn't refuse.
Cathy was evidently not one to back down easily; she even dared to directly refute her superior. "Talented individual? But how come I have never heard of her in this industry?
"Oh, wait. I remember, two or three years ago there was a famous 'scentless perfumer' named Evelyn. Are you two namesakes? Or..." Her words were sharp, and her gaze was particularly piercing..
Faced with her doubts and provocations, Evelyn said firmly, "We are not namesakes. Ms. White, the person you mentioned is me."
"Is that so?!" Cathy looked surprised. "So, are the requirements for 'talent' so low now?"
"There was a little misunderstanding back then, Ms. White. But I didn't expect you to still remember after all this time. I almost forgot about it," Evelyn said with a smile. "It's interesting how fate works, isn't it? It seems we're destined to work together."
Her calm response made Cathy's expression serious. "Some might call it fate, but I see it as a doomed fate."
Then, she put away her already scarce smile and turned to Nasir. "Mr. Carter, I will not agree to have someone with almost no qualifications join the project department. Moreover, she is currently being sued. I believe it is very unwise for the company to hire such a person at this time!"
