Chapter 173 Just Like This?!
Olivia was usually pretty cautious, but she had a point.
You didn't always have to worry about what others thought, private meetings could spark gossip in sensitive times.. Even if Evelyn didn't care, it could hurt Lisa and Matthew's reputations.
She looked at James and said, "I'll call Lisa. We can talk over the phone if needed."
James stayed quiet. Evelyn tried calling Lisa, but couldn't get through.
"Miss Thompson has some private issues. Please understand," he said.
She wanted to refuse, but with the call failing and James having Lisa's stuff, she worried Lisa might be in real trouble. After a moment, she agreed, "Alright, I'll go with you."
"Wait!" Olivia rushed over. "If you're going, I'm coming too."
"Miss Thompson only invited Ms. Taylor," James said, clearly not wanting Olivia to join.
"I'll check it out and call you if anything comes up," Evelyn said, mimicking a phone call.
But Olivia insisted, "No way; I can't let you out of my sight right now. If you're worried about Miss Thompson, I'm coming too."
"Olivia..." Evelyn started, but the driver spoke up, "Ms. Taylor, it's urgent. If your assistant insists, then get in the car."
Since James agreed, Evelyn didn't argue and got in the car with Olivia.
The car was spacious with only the driver, Michael Thompson, Evelyn, Olivia, and James in the back.
James stayed silent, making the atmosphere tense. A faint fragrance, probably from an air freshener, filled the car. Evelyn kept trying to call Lisa, but now Lisa's phone was off.
"What's going on with Lisa?" Evelyn asked, worried.
"Miss Thompson has some trouble and hopes Ms. Taylor can help," James explained.
"What kind of trouble? Does Mr. Thompson know?" Olivia asked quickly.
If it was serious, wouldn't it be better to get Matthew? Evelyn and Olivia didn't know the area or have connections. They wouldn't be much help.
"Miss Thompson said only you could help her," James replied vaguely.
Evelyn thought for a moment. "Where is she now?"
James glanced at her, his eyes hidden by sunglasses. "Ms. Taylor, no need for so many questions. You'll see when we get there."
"But you..." Olivia started, then stopped, slapping her forehead and shaking her head. "You..."
Before she could finish, she fainted.
"Olivia?" Evelyn shook her arm, worried. "Olivia, what's wrong?"
She turned to James. "Who are you?"
Before she could get an answer, she felt dizzy and collapsed onto Olivia.
"Too late," James said sinisterly.
The car drove to a desolate area, switching vehicles halfway. After a series of turns, they stopped in front of a small cabin.
Michael got out and opened the door while James and Michael carried Evelyn and Olivia inside.
Hearing the commotion, Nathan opened the door. "Nobody's following, right?"
James gave him a disdainful look and walked in.
Michael followed, and the man who opened the door checked outside before closing it and turning off the lights.
Nathan frowned at the two women. "Weren't we supposed to take Evelyn? Why are two of them tied up?"
Rosen had told them to only take Evelyn, so there was no extra pay for another person.
"This one is who we need," James said, nodding toward Evelyn. "The other is her assistant. She insisted on coming."
Nathan examined Evelyn closely. "This one?"
Rosen had instructed them to be careful and use a strong sedative. Thus, James and Michael had tripled the dose in the air freshener. Without an antidote, they would've passed out too.
Rosen also said Evelyn must be securely bound. Nathan was annoyed; he expected Evelyn to be tough, but she seemed delicate. He worried, 'Did I give her too much sedative?'
"Is she dead?" Nathan checked Evelyn's breath and sighed in relief. "Find a rope and tie her up."
"Is that really necessary?" Michael asked, thinking it was overkill.
They weren't ordinary thugs; they were wanted by Interpol. They took jobs for money, but now wondered if Rosen was overreacting.
"We should do as Rosen wants," Nathan said, thinking Rosen might have a specific reason.
They found a thin rope and tied Evelyn's hands. They didn't bother tying Olivia and threw them into separate rooms, waiting to finish the job and get paid.
