Chapter 220 Love, No Regrets

After Cathy, Evelyn, and Laura finished reading the apology statement, they were all floored.

That so-called apology? It was more like a blame-shifting manifesto.

Here's the gist: First off, Liam spent the last few days digging through old experiment records and doing a ton of research. It turned out thatthe previous work was indeed Evelyn's, not Vivian's.

The previous misunderstandings were entirely due to Vivian's deceit. Liam got duped too, so he didn't know the real deal. Now that he did, he's super sorry and wanted to apologize to Evelyn.

Second, the love triangle drama between Liam, Vivian, and Evelyn was supposed to stay private. But since everyone’s so nosy, Liam admitted he loved them both, no regrets.

After all that, he wrapped it up by saying he was genuinely sorry to Evelyn. He stated that whatever she decided—whether to get back at him or ask for compensation—he was down to cooperate. He owed her that much.

It was a heartfelt piece, but full of BS.

The internet had no clue what was true or false. Like, was all the past work really Evelyn's? Yeah, that part was true. But was Liam really deceived? Did he really know nothing?

Laura couldn't help but feel disgusted.

"I gotta hand it to him!" Cathy shook her head, laughing.

"You admire him? What's there to admire about such a shameless liar?" Laura was fuming.

Cathy said, "To lose dignity to this extent is a talent! Plus, he's quick on his feet. When faced with strength, he knows to play weak. When he can't hide the truth, he mixes it with lies. The hardest thing to distinguish is half-truths and half-lies."

Evelyn nodded, agreeing with Cathy.

"I'm going to expose him!" Laura said, ready to fire up Instagram.

Laura thought, 'This level of shamelessness needs to be exposed so Liam can't fool anyone anymore.'

"No need!" Evelyn stopped her. "What are you going to expose about Liam? He claims he was unaware, that Vivian deceived him. He's playing the victim. If you say he knew, who will people believe? Vivian's in prison and can't defend herself. Liam knows this, so he's dumping all the blame on her."

Shaking her head, Evelyn had already thought this through. "Even if we went to France to find Vivian, we might not see her. And even if we did, would she testify for us? Would she argue with Liam? No way!"

Sure, Vivian must be furious with Liam, but she hated Evelyn more. She'd never help Evelyn out.

"At the very least, we should speak the truth; whether others believe it or not is up to them." Laura was still pretty bitter about letting it go.

"No rush, let's wait a bit longer," Evelyn  still said.

But Laura was getting antsy. "Wait again?"

Evelyn replied, "You've been with me this long. Haven't you learned patience yet? Whether we're refining essences or distilling fragrances, it all takes time. Which one doesn't require patience? Since I've decided to fight back, it has to be a decisive blow. If you can't wait, you'll give him a chance to wriggle out, and that would be a failed piece."

Laura thought, 'Wow, Evelyn treats this like a piece of art to perfect.'

"Should I pretend I didn't know?" Laura asked, pointing to her eyes.

"Yes, pretend you didn't know." Evelyn turned to look at the crane wood carving on the side. "Consider it a break, but it won't be long before you're ready to start on a new piece."

"Is there a new project again?" Laura asked excitedly. After a period of stagnation, she was eager to work again. Despite the exhaustion, being immersed in the lab felt incredibly fulfilling.

Evelyn said, "Soon!"

When Samuel got home, he saw the crane wood carving in the living room and was pretty surprised. It was really eye-catching!

"What's this?" Samuel hesitated.

Just as Evelyn, who had just made room to move the wood carving, saw Samuel return;she waved at him. "You're back just in time. Help me move this."

Samuel stayed silent.

He took off his coat, rolled up his sleeves, gestured for her to move aside, and then lifted the wood carving, placing it in the spot Evelyn had cleared.

"Did you buy this?" Samuel asked.

"It was a gift." She examined it closely; the craftsmanship was indeed exceptional. The lines were smooth and expressive, even the eyes seemed so vivid and full of life. She couldn't help but admire it.

"Is this the one you mentioned on the phone this morning?" Samuel was quite surprised.

He thought it was a prank from someone, but it turned out to be such an interesting item. It was quite thoughtful to give something like this to a girl these days.

"Yes." Evelyn propped her chin with one hand and nodded.

Seeing Evelyn seemingly lost in thought, Samuel felt a bit jealous and squinted his eyes. "Is it from a guy?"

"Yes." Evelyn nodded again. In fact, Evelyn was thinking that since Alex had sent this over, it meant he didn't intend to disappear completely, so he would show up again, right?

After rolling up his sleeves again, Samuel turned around to pick up the wood carving. Evelyn snapped out of her thoughts. "What are you doing?"

"I'm going to throw it away!" Samuel said firmly.

"No way, I want to give it to someone!" Evelyn grabbed Samuel's arm, stopping him from touching it, afraid that Samuel might have other ideas, so she held onto his hand tightly.

"Give it to someone? Who?" Samuel became even more alert.

Seeing Samuel looking so guarded, Evelyn felt helpless. "Give it to an elder, okay?"

"An elder..." Samuel looked back at the wood carving, with its graceful and ethereal crane-like appearance. He thought it was indeed quite suitable for an elder. Then Samuel's expression softened. "Which elder? You've never mentioned it before?"

As they talked about this, Evelyn's face dimmed, looking like she had something on her mind.
