Chapter 20 I Never Said That

Samuel was known for being cold-hearted and ruthless, but Evelyn didn't expect him to be so attentive and considerate in his personal life.

The water temperature was indeed perfect. Evelyn enjoyed a hot bath and changed into clean clothes and extremely comfortable intimate attire. The discomfort caused by her period was greatly relieved, and she felt much more relaxed.

She thought, 'He's right. There's no need to rush. I should take a good rest.'

They slept together for a while. Samuel hugged Evelyn, giving her a sense of solid security. They embraced each other without doing anything, just simply taking a nap. But Evelyn experienced a different kind of calm happiness.

They probably only slept for a little over an hour before waking up to find that Liam had made many phone calls.

Evelyn thought, 'Liam is really anxious. But the more anxious he is, the less anxious I am.'

She calmly changed into a white dress without any special decorations or designs. The style was simple but suited her figure, highlighting her innocence and beauty.

Before leaving, Samuel wrapped his arm around her waist, kissed her on the neck, and said, "If I could, I wouldn't let go."

"Whether you let go or not, I am yours."

Evelyn wrapped her hands around his neck and gently kissed his cheek on tiptoes.

But Samuel grabbed her and kissed her fiercely and deeply.

The kiss was passionate and lingering. She gently pushed him away. "My lipstick..."

Samuel slowly let go, looking at her rosy lips. The wonderful taste made him unable to resist wanting more.

He kissed her lightly twice before letting go. "I'll have Kyle wait for you outside. Come back after you're done."

"Okay." She nodded and turned to leave.

When she arrived at the venue, Liam, who had been waiting, immediately approached her and reprimanded her, "What are you doing? I called you numerous times, and you didn't answer. Did you reach out to someone from Neogenito Fragrances again? I've made my instructions clear to you. Do you understand the importance of this?"

Evelyn looked up at him coldly.

Liam paused, forgetting what he wanted to say. "Now that you're here, let's go in quickly."

They didn't directly enter the venue.

Liam quickly spoke to her in the hallway, "I already told you before. You know what to say. Once we settle today's matters, Liavian Perfumes will be able to develop better. Evelyn, you need to be obedient. I know you've always been considerate. Today, we'll see how you perform!"

Evelyn obediently listened, maintaining a calm and poised smile.

Seeing that she didn't say anything, Liam became a little anxious. He wanted to say something else but felt that he had said everything he needed to say.

Finally, he raised his hand and gently placed it on her shoulder. Leaning in close to her ear, he spoke softly, ensuring only they could hear, "I trust you, but don't try any tricks. If you do, don't blame me for being ruthless."

After speaking, Liam slowly let go of her hand and looked at Evelyn affectionately.

Unaware individuals would have thought he had just said something intimate.

Evelyn suppressed her smile and her gaze turned somewhat icy as she turned and walked towards the venue.

As soon as she stepped inside, the flickering lights inside stimulated her, causing her to squint her eyes.

The journalists raised their cameras to take pictures and Evelyn paused for a moment. Then, she quickly composed herself and walked briskly towards the stage.

A row of tables was set up in the center of the stage. Several high-level executives of Liavian Perfumes sat on the two ends. The three seats in the middle were reserved for Liam, Vivian, and her.

Evelyn thought, 'Great. They've arranged for me to sit in the middle seat. It's really appropriate.'

She walked straight over and sat down, looking elegant and composed.

Vivian had already arrived. She glanced at Liam who gave her a reassuring "OK" gesture, which put her at ease.

The press conference started quickly with Liam jumping straight to the point.

"Regarding the events that occurred at last night's city perfume competition, I believe everyone is already aware. There have been some misunderstandings. We are holding this press conference today to provide an explanation to our colleagues and the public who care about this matter.”

"The participating fragrance 'First Love' received a lot of positive feedback, but an incident of plagiarism occurred. The primary individuals involved in the incident are already seated here. I won't say anything else. I'll let the two parties involved clarify the situation, alright?"

Upon saying that, he handed the microphone to Vivian first.

She was dressed in a black off-the-shoulder gown, exuding a commanding presence. Interestingly enough, she and Evelyn formed a contrast of black and white beside each other.

Vivian was accustomed to such scenarios and smiled faintly before speaking, "Hello, everyone. I am Vivian Reed, the chief perfumer of Liavian Perfumes."

Upon hearing "chief perfumer of Liavian Perfumes," Evelyn chuckled softly, lowering her head.

"Regarding yesterday's incident, everyone is very clear by now. Mr. Scott briefly mentioned it just now, so I won't repeat it. I just want to say that since I entered this industry, I've known that apart from talent, diligence is even more important. Only through continuous practice and experimentation can satisfactory results be achieved.

"Putting one's efforts on the right path is more important than anything else. Relying on tricks and being clever might make you feel proud for now, but in the end, you won't get far. What do you think, Evelyn?"

In the end, she shifted the focus onto Evelyn, directly steering the conflict towards her.

As expected, everyone's attention turned to Evelyn. They had been taking photos and were also waiting to hear what she had to say.

Although Vivian did not explicitly accuse her, anyone could infer the implications behind her words. She posed herself as a victim and insinuated that Evelyn was a thief who stole others' achievements and ideas!

Facing the microphone, Evelyn did not rush to speak. She calmly surveyed the room, her gaze almost sweeping across the entire room.

Just as Liam was getting a bit impatient and couldn't help but want to remind her, she said, "Yes, I agree with what Ms. Reed said. Putting your mind on the right path is more important than anything else. Talent is important, but hard work is even more important."

The journalists below continued snapping pictures, yet Evelyn didn't shy away. Instead, she welcomed the dazzling flashes with a calm gaze.

Liam and Vivian kept up their social smiles but seemed a tad puzzled.

It was evident that Evelyn was merely echoing Vivian's words, not altering a single letter, almost repeating them verbatim. But why did it send a shiver down people's spines when it came from her lips?

"So, Ms. Taylor, do you admit that you stole Ms. Reed's ideas and achievements?" a journalist asked directly.

In the face of such a sharp question, Evelyn smiled slightly and said, "I didn't say that."

Everyone at the scene was shocked.

For a moment, the journalists started taking photos again and more people wanted to ask further questions.

Liam's expression changed. He turned to look at Evelyn, thinking, 'Is she really going to play tricks?'
