Chapter 208 He Doesn't Deserve It, Do You?

"Start?" Evelyn scoffed. "How do you even begin?"

Liam, still clinging to a shred of hope, put on his best puppy-dog eyes. "I know, it was all my fault before. I was wrong; I failed to cherish you properly. If you're still willing to accept me, I promise to make it up to you in the future!"

Evelyn couldn't help but find it all laughable. She shifted in her seat and eyed him. "Oh really? And how exactly do you plan to make it up to me?"

Liam, completely oblivious to Evelyn's sarcasm, said, "If you come back to me, to Liavian Perfumes, I'll do whatever you say. I'll use all my connections to make you the top perfume maker, not just here, but worldwide!"

Evelyn raised an eyebrow. "Weren't you the one who said my skills were too shaky to show off, in case I messed up and got criticized?" She tapped the table, throwing his own words back at him.

Liam was momentarily speechless.

Evelyn pressed on, "Weren't you the one who said I lacked experience? That even if I was a big deal in Lindwood City, I'd never make it nationally, let alone internationally? How did I suddenly become so amazing in just a few months?"

Liam froze.

"And weren't you the one who told me to stay behind the scenes, focus on the perfume, and not worry about fame?" Evelyn didn't let him get a word in. These were all things Liam had drilled into her over the years, and now she was shoving them right back at him. She really wanted to ask if he felt guilty.

Whether he did or not, Liam's face was a picture of embarrassment. He forced a smile. "Evelyn, can we just forget about the past?"

"Forget about it? You think you can just decide when we talk about it?" Evelyn snapped, pulling her hand away from his. "What's the matter? Scared to stand by your own words?"

"It's not that I'm scared to admit it. I was wrong! I've already said that, haven't I? I was fooled by Vivian Reed, blinded by her, and that's why I treated you so badly. Now I see what a jerk I was. If you want to yell at me or hit me, go ahead. Just please, forgive me, okay?"

Liam, who used to call Vivian by sweet nicknames, now spat out her full name, dumping all the blame on her.

Sure, Vivian wasn't a saint, but Liam was no better. How dare he try to pin it all on her?

"Evelyn, I really regret it. Can't you forgive me? Just tell me what I need to do!" Seeing Evelyn's icy demeanor, Liam started to panic.

Why wasn't Evelyn moved by his groveling? Could she have fallen for someone else?

Before coming here, Liam had done his homework on Evelyn. But there were still things he didn't know—like the fact that the Jones family was backing her. Even his private investigator missed that detail.

But there was one thing Liam was mulling over. According to the PI, someone was helping Evelyn behind the scenes. Not the Jones family that Ava had mentioned, but someone from the Seraphian Group.

The info said someone from the Seraphian Group had directly recommended Evelyn to Neogenito Fragrances, straight to the general manager, which explained why her entry there was so smooth, with all the perks and resources.

Honestly, it made sense to Liam. Otherwise, why else would Neogenito Fragrances treat a newbie like Evelyn so well?

At first, Liam thought it was because of Evelyn's ties with Neogenito Fragrances. But then, when he found out about her connection to the Jones family, he figured she was using their clout.

But now, it seemed that wasn't the case. The info pointed to a specific person.

Liam blurted out, "Evelyn, are you turning me down because you already have someone else?"

Evelyn's eyes flashed with surprise. She thought Liam knew about Samuel. She had planned to tell him, but she didn't expect Liam to already know.

When did he find out, and how?

Seeing her reaction, Liam felt even more sure of his hunch.

So, the info wasn't bogus. Evelyn really had someone backing her. This made Liam uneasy, but after weighing his options, he still didn't want to give up.

"I know I messed up and pushed you away. It's normal for you to find someone to help you, someone to lean on. But is he really worthy of you?" Liam sneered, clearly not taking his rival seriously.

Evelyn looked at Liam in disbelief. "If he's not worthy, are you?"

Liam was being ridiculously arrogant. How could he think he was better than Samuel? Where did he get the nerve to say that?

"Of course!" Liam said, puffing up with pride. "Sure, my company might not be huge right now, and it might not seem as prestigious as his status. But Evelyn, he might look respectable, but he's just an assistant, basically a driver. If he leaves Mr. Whitman, what is he? But I'm different. I'm confident Liavian Perfumes will succeed. Look at our current performance! Our new products are a hit, profits are set to skyrocket by the end of the year, and we're planning to go public!"

Liam continued, "Evelyn, our future is bright. Following Kyle might bring you short-term benefits, but do you think Neogenito Fragrances or Seraphian Group value you just for Kyle's status? They value you for Mr. Whitman's status. If Kyle gets fired, he won't be able to help you anymore! Be smart! Being with me is the best choice!"

Evelyn rested her chin on her hand, looking out the window, both amused and speechless, struggling to suppress her laughter.

What a mix-up! Laura used to think Kyle was her boyfriend, and now even Liam thought so! Poor Kyle. Evelyn felt helpless.

Liam could only see the side of Evelyn's face, thinking she was sobbing. He softened his voice. "Evelyn, come back! I'll treat you right! For you, I'll even change the company's name. From now on, Liavian Perfumes will be called Evelyn. How about that? Using your name will give our company an international high-end feel!"
