Chapter 153 You Were Incomparable

This time, Evelyn came back with something in her hand, and Samuel didn't see clearly what it was.

Evelyn returned to the table with a small piece of wood and sat down by the desk, carefully studying it under the lamp. The fragrance was quite special, seemingly natural, emanating from the wood itself.

Evelyn was very interested and wanted to know the source of this wood, but it would be difficult to find out if Alex stopped making it.

Thinking of asking Samuel, she was surprised to find him standing behind her. "What are you doing here?" she exclaimed.

"Where else should I be?" Samuel's voice sounded somewhat resentful. "Have you finally noticed me?"

"I just have some things I can't figure out." Evelyn lightly tugged at Samuel's sleeve. "I didn't mean to ignore you."

"It's even more annoying when it's not intentional!" Samuel pinched Evelyn's nose. Glancing at the piece of wood in Evelyn's hand, he asked, "Is this what's bothering you?"

"Yes," Evelyn nodded.

Pinching it with two fingers and sniffing it, Samuel frowned. "This wood smells really good."

"Right? Do you find it fragrant, too? Most importantly, this scent is unique; it is not any wood scent I've encountered before. I've never seen anything like it," Evelyn remarked.

Samuel didn't find it strange. "The world is vast, so it's normal to come across unfamiliar things. Perhaps it's a new species, or maybe it's not entirely natural. Isn't there grafting technology?"

"Are you suggesting it's artificially synthesized?" Evelyn shook her head. "I've seen that during my time at Tedia, where the new materials we procured were like that, but this isn't."

That's why she was particularly interested.

Seeing Evelyn's distress, Samuel suggested, "Where did you get this? From the last wood carving shop?"

"Yes."

"It's simple; just ask the owner where they source their materials from, and you'll know." Samuel stood up, thinking the issue wasn't complicated.

"No, the owner doesn't know. I got this small piece from one of their employees, Alex. I think only Alex knows where it came from. I wanted him to save some for me, but he suddenly played hook."

Evelyn sighed, feeling a bit frustrated.

"Alex?" Samuel squinted, seemingly focusing on a different aspect than Evelyn intended.

However, immersed in her melancholy, Evelyn continued, "Yes, I don't think he's just a regular artisan. Could his sudden cessation be somehow linked to this timber?"

Picking up the lumber for a closer inspection, Evelyn pondered the potential interconnections, which were swathed in ambiguity, perhaps merely attributing it to a precognitive inkling.

"You seem rather intrigued by him," Samuel placed his hands firmly on the table, momentarily entrapping Evelyn between himself and the table, exuding an air of imminent danger from head to toe.

"More precisely, I find fascination in his timber. Nonetheless, he's quite strange, with a quick temper, quite intriguing." Evelyn pondered Alex's quick temper, reminiscent of a petulant child.

Evelyn chuckled, and then her chin suddenly captured between her fingers, causing her to pause and blink.

"Is this individual truly so captivating?" Samuel narrowed his eyes, his voice tinged with envy.

"It seems not quite as captivating as one would expect," Evelyn remarked.

She thought, 'No! Samuel was consumed by jealousy. I am merely concerned about lumber, with no other thoughts in mind. Samuel is so jealous.'

"Isn't he interesting?" Samuel wasn't easily appeased. "But you seem quite interested. You said he's intriguing, right?"

If Evelyn had been dismissive before, she was now fully alert. Was Samuel truly jealous this time?

"No, I find his wood carvings intriguing. Yes, the carvings are fascinating." Evelyn looked at Samuel, her eyes wandering. "Just like the pair of handcrafts I brought home last time, didn't you find them interesting, too? They look like twins, right?"

"When I see them, I think of you, of us. Yes, it's you who's interesting. The most interesting, and the one I'm most interested in, is you, only you!"

Evelyn was clearly trying to please Samuel. Samuel, who had been tense, couldn't help but crack a smile.

Seizing the opportunity, Evelyn leaned in and kissed Samuel on the cheek. "Your jealousy is really unreasonable. Is a mere woodworker worth your envy?"

Perhaps Samuel thought he had overreacted as he let go and straightened up, saying, "Who's jealous?"

"Are you sure your eyes weren't sharp just now? You seemed quite fierce, and now you claim you're not jealous."

"Are my eyes sharp, or is it something else?" Teased by Evelyn, Samuel suddenly bent down, lifting Evelyn from the chair. "Or are you inviting me to..."

Startled by being lifted, Evelyn instinctively wrapped her arms around Samuel's neck. "I didn't say that. Don't misinterpret my words."

"Is that so? Then what did you mean?" Setting Evelyn back on the bed, Samuel rested his forehead against hers, gazing into her eyes.

This close contact made Samuel feel secure in possessing Evelyn.

"Samuel." Evelyn sighed softly, her hands moving from around Samuel's neck. "No one can compare with you in this world. No one."

Initially playful, Samuel's expression changed upon hearing Evelyn's words. His gaze became complex and mysterious as he gently caressed Evelyn's cheek, asking in a low voice, "Will you always think that way? Will you?"

Evelyn pondered, 'Despite Samuel's status and position, being with him is more than enough for me. Yet he seems to lack a sense of security. He is so nice to me that I seemingly live in a dream.'

"Yes, I will!" Evelyn nodded emphatically. "I will always think that way. No one can compare with you in this world, Samuel. You are the best, the very best!"

Pulling his head down, she kissed him on the lips, expressing her feelings through action.

With a sigh from deep within, Samuel kissed Evelyn deeply.
