Chapter 35 Can You Believe It?
The tablet screen showed the interface of Instagram. But what was displayed were some gossip news.
At a glance, Evelyn saw that it was an account that often broke scandalous news. She suddenly turned her head and mocked him, "I didn't expect Mr. Whitman to also read these gossip news."
Samuel looked at her but didn't say anything.
Samuel's expression gave Evelyn a bad premonition. Looking back at the screen, Evelyn carefully read the news. It turned out to be about her rumors.
The main content of the news was about Evelyn's time in college. More specifically, it was about her relationship with Liam and Vivian during her college years and the following period of work. The most detailed account was about her and Liam's relationship.
The news headline was sensational: [A Whore's Joyful Days]
Evelyn was taken aback. Instead of feeling angry, she was genuinely surprised because she had never anticipated Liam resorting to such tactics.
Initially, Evelyn had assumed that after Liam slandered her, he would resort to stealing her flies and suing her as a final move. However, she never imagined Liam would actually deny their past love.
Evelyn thought, 'I was wrong! Maybe there truly was no love between Liam and me. Otherwise, how could he treat me so despicably?'
"I..." After glancing for a while, Evelyn turned to the man behind her. "Do you believe it?"
Evelyn didn't care about the accusations from others. She only cared about Samuel's thoughts.
Samuel still appeared calm. Upon hearing her question, he just blinked. "What? I said this is boring stuff."
Samuel closed his tablet and then embraced her. Looking down at her face, Samuel pinched her nose with one hand. "Are you angry?"
Evelyn shook her head.
Evelyn opened her arms and embraced his neck. Resting her head on his shoulder, Evelyn felt a sense of security coming from him.
Evelyn believed she shouldn't have asked this silly question. If Samuel believed those things, how could he be so calm and call it boring?
Samuel had unwavering faith in Evelyn. Despite Evelyn's initial surprise at his unconditional trust, she genuinely found solace in it.
The more time Evelyn spent with Samuel, the clearer it became to her what qualities defined a truly good man. This realization only deepened her regret for ever being drawn to a jerk like Liam.
Leaning on his shoulder, Evelyn said dejectedly, "You said it was boring, so why should I be angry over something boring?"
"That's correct."
Samuel caressed her long hair with one hand. Coiling and kneading it in his palm, Samuel loved the silky texture of her hair.
"You took a day off on your very first day of work. Are you unhappy?" Samuel casually asked, pretending to be nonchalant. "Did someone bully you at the company?"
"No. My boss is very considerate. She gave me three days off to handle personal matters and allowed me to use this time to adjust to the new environment. She's too thoughtful." Clapping her hands, Evelyn applauded her new boss.
"Really?" Staring at her, Samuel expressed doubt. "I should meet this considerate boss of yours."
Samuel looked serious, not joking at all.
Evelyn immediately waved her hand. "No need. Neogenito Fragrances is just a subsidiary of the Seraphian Group. My boss is far from being as close to a CEO like you. If you were to suddenly meet her, she would be scared."
Amused by her remark, Samuel laughed and pinched her chin. "I like your flattery. I'll consider rewarding you."
"What do you want to reward me with?" Evelyn asked curiously.
"What do you want?" Samuel asked, leaning close to her, almost brushing against her ear.
Evelyn felt her pores instantly open and sprung up like a coil. "I'll have to think carefully! Let's eat first. I'm hungry!"
Watching Evelyn escape into the kitchen, Samuel didn't stop her. Instead, he smiled faintly and returned his gaze to his tablet, though his eyes betrayed a hint of gloom.
Despite finding the news boring, Samuel was resolute: anyone who dared to slander his wife would face consequences.
In the kitchen…
After washing her hands, Evelyn went to check the refrigerator. She had expected to find simple ingredients like bread or eggs, but she didn't expect to find all kinds of ingredients, including meat and fresh vegetables. Evelyn was surprised.
She had thought that someone like Samuel would never cook. Samuel didn't like having a maid at home every day, so the housekeeper only came to clean every other day. Evelyn couldn't understand why Samuel stocked so much in the refrigerator.
After checking the refrigerator, Evelyn decided to cook first and then ask him.
During the bustling period of "First Love", Evelyn scarcely found time to eat. Samuel later treated her to dinner twice. However, Evelyn had missed home-cooked meals.
Luckily, there were pre-packaged steaks in the refrigerator, making it convenient for Evelyn to cook. After rinsing off the blood, she seared the steaks. Then, she proceeded to scramble eggs and chop vegetables.
Samuel had been sitting outside for a while dealing with some matters. But Evelyn hadn't come out of the kitchen yet, so he got up and walked into the kitchen.
As he entered, Evelyn was cooking.
Samuel smelled a delicious aroma from the entrance and immediately wanted to eat.
Standing at the kitchen doorway, Samuel leaned against the doorframe and quietly watched Evelyn cook.
Evelyn was thin and wearing a loose apron. After securing the straps around her waist, she looked even more delicate.
Watching Evelyn busily cook, Samuel thought she was truly beautiful.
But...
After watching for a while, Samuel noticed something and frowned. He stood upright and walked over. He directly took the spatula from her hands. "I'll cook."
"Ah!" Evelyn got startled because she was too focused on cooking and didn't know when he had come in.
Luckily, Samuel reacted quickly. He used one hand to block her waist and prevent her from falling, while holding the spatula steadily with the other hand. In the next second, Samuel had taken over the task of cooking.
"You... Let me do it!" Evelyn was stunned and tried to take the spatula back. But Samuel skillfully avoided her and pushed her out while cooking. "You go out first. I'll finish cooking soon."
Evelyn didn't understand what Samuel meant, but she stood next to him for a while and noticed that he seemed to be good at cooking.
"Let's go!" Samuel urged when he saw Evelyn standing there.
Since Samuel had taken her spot, Evelyn had no choice but to leave.
"Well... okay! I already added salt to the soup. Don't add any more salt," she said.
