Chapter 12 You are Mine
The hotel breakfast was quite abundant, and both of them enjoyed it. The sunlight poured in through the window, and Evelyn felt relaxed.
"I'll go to the company later, passing by Neogenito Fragrances. I'll take you there," Samuel said casually while spreading butter on his toast.
After taking a sip of milk, Evelyn shook her head and said, "I'll go to Neogenito Fragrances in the afternoon. And didn't we agree not to announce our..."
Samuel looked up, and just as she was about to mention "relationship", she stopped.
Handing her the buttered toast, he withdrew his hand, assuring, "Don't worry, I won't break my promise. Only the top brass at Neogenito Fragrances is aware of your recruitment by the headquarters. That information was only relayed by Kyle, who's unaware..."
He raised an eyebrow slightly, casually glancing at her, but it surprised her.
"You are mine." He paused for a moment, but his words carried deep meaning.
Evelyn felt her heart start racing.
She thought, 'This man really understands women too well! With his cold face, his words may not sound like much at first, but they speed up the heartbeat when you think about them.'
"That's good then!"
Her gaze fell on the breakfast in front of her, and she quickly finished what she was holding, saying, "I'm full, I'll make a call."
She needed to leave Liavian Perfumes but had to solve the issues there first, at least not to involve Laura.
When she picked up her phone, she noticed that she had over 20 missed calls, all from Liam.
She blinked and then smiled sarcastically.
Yesterday, to keep a calm state of mind and avoid disruptions, she switched her phone to silent mode the moment she stepped into the car. She anticipated a call from Liam, but she was taken aback by his intense fury.
It seemed that he was really angry.
She had been with him for so long, yet he seldom took the initiative to call her. When he did, it was usually about work. And now...
Just as she was about to return to the main screen, the phone rang once more, and it was Liam again.
She thought, 'Oh my, he's really early.'
Evelyn looked at the flashing name on the screen and then glanced at Samuel, who was calmly eating breakfast. He sat there so elegantly and handsomely, like a prince in a fairy tale, high above everyone else.
After a moment of contemplation, she pressed the answer button.
After last night's incident, her relationship with Liam was over, and there was no need to hide anything from Samuel now.
She was calm and fearless.
"Hello?"
"Evelyn, where are you?" Liam's voice was slightly hoarse, sounding like he hadn't had a good rest.
She pretended not to understand and asked in return, "Do you need anything, Mr. Scott?"
"Evelyn, it's no use trying to escape. Do you think you can escape?"
Evelyn almost burst out laughing. "Escape? Why would I need to escape?"
She thought, 'I haven't committed any crime or done anything shameful, why would I hide?'
"Since you didn't leave, why didn't you return all night? Do you realize I waited for you the whole night?" Liam paused briefly, then added, "I think there was a misunderstanding about yesterday. I don't blame you. Please come back; we can talk it over, and everything will be okay, alright?"
After a moment of thought, Evelyn chuckled, "Alright. See you at the company later."
After hanging up the phone, she walked back to the table.
Samuel asked, "Are you leaving?"
"No rush." She smiled and sat back down, pulling the chair forward.
She was in a good mood and her appetite had also improved. She leisurely continued eating. "It's not like I'm going to find someone, why should I rush?"
She thought, 'How many times have I waited for Liam, and now it's finally his turn to wait for me?'
"He won't easily let go of yesterday's incident."
Liam's petty character made him fret over even the smallest benefit, not to mention the embarrassing incident from yesterday. Moreover, Evelyn's departure dealt a deadly blow to his small company.
Looking at him, Evelyn said with a smile, "I won't let him off either."
Samuel smiled back at her.
...
Liam waited the entire day without even taking a break for lunch. He lingered until well past 3:00 p.m., yet Evelyn was nowhere to be seen. He attempted to call her but received no response. Frustration boiled within him, and he nearly hurled his phone in anger.
"Liam, I've always said that Evelyn is not reliable. You trusted her too much!"
Vivian leaned back in the luxurious leather seat, peeling an apple with a fruit knife. "Last night's incident was completely planned. They had already set a trap and were waiting for us to fall into it. I knew something was strange about her yesterday, but you didn't believe me. Look..."
"Don't say anymore!" Liam was annoyed. He wanted to make a phone call but felt it wouldn't do any good. His tone became forceful.
Rebuked by him, Vivian pursed her lips, lowered her head, and unhappily said, "Why are you taking it out on me? I haven't betrayed you or the company. I've always been by your side, caring about you. It's only me!"
She walked over and handed him the peeled apple. "Come on, even if you're angry, you still need to eat. What if something happens to you? What about me..."
As she spoke, her big eyes were already filled with tears, as if they would fall with a blink.
Seeing her pitiful appearance, Liam softened. He sighed, took the apple, and placed his hand on her shoulder. "I'm not mad at you, I'm just in a bad mood. I'm sorry. I know you're looking out for me. Stop crying, be good!"
"You're just trying to comfort me, but Evelyn is still on your mind..." Vivian twisted her body, drawing closer to him and igniting the desire in his heart.
"Mr. Scott, I..." The door opened and Evelyn peered in. Seeing the scene, she smiled and said, "Oh, it seems I came at the wrong time. I'll..."
"Evelyn!" Seeing her, Liam quickly let go of Vivian's wrist and hurried towards her, fearing she would leave. "You're back!"
He had waited the whole day to see her, so how could he just let her go like this?
"Where did you go? Why didn't you answer the phone? Do you know how worried I was? Where did you go exactly?"
He grabbed her hand, pulling her inside and closing the door.
Evelyn widened her eyes. The man in front of her looked anxious, saying caring words as if he genuinely worried about her. But… what was he doing just now?
Glancing discreetly at Vivian, she noticed a hint of displeasure on her face, though it quickly transformed into a gentle smile when their eyes met."Yes, Evelyn, you have no idea how worried we were. You didn't come home all night, where were you? How could you hang out with people from Neogenito Fragrances? Don't believe what they said. Don't let them deceive you!"
