Chapter 32 Unless Someone Gives You Answers
Seeing Evelyn agree directly, Cathy smirked and couldn't conceal the contempt in her eyes.
Although Neogenito Fragrances was newly established, it had the support of the Seraphian Group. Therefore, all the Neogenito employees were talented individuals. This was also the reason why Cathy looked down on Evelyn.
Originally, Cathy was annoyed at how to refuse Evelyn's request to join her team and kick her out of the company. Cathy didn't expect Evelyn to give her an opportunity herself.
"You agreed so quickly now, but don't go back on your word! I hate people who don't keep their promises the most!"
Afraid of Evelyn changing her mind, Cathy added this sentence again to prevent her from regretting it.
Evelyn nodded. "Don't worry. I hate people who don't keep their promises just like you."
Cathy raised an eyebrow and sat down in a chair. She slightly turned in a different direction, pointed at the table with her fingertips, and said, "Come over here."
Standing up, Evelyn walked towards Cathy's position.
Upon entering the room, Evelyn immediately noticed three identical perfume bottles arranged in front of Cathy. Each bottle seemed to bear the same weight. Given Evelyn's background in perfume development, she could discern at a glance that they were in the midst of testing a new product.
After each new product was developed, it needed repeated experiments and stability measurements to find any flaws. This required a perfumer's sensitive nose to distinguish each product.
Standing in front of Cathy, Evelyn remained silent and waited for Cathy to speak first.
"These three perfumes are products eliminated by our company. Take a look and determine why they were eliminated."
Cathy gestured with her chin towards the three bottles of perfume.
The other people sitting at the conference table looked at each other. They were surprised but quickly understood Cathy's meaning. No one spoke.
After glancing at Cathy, Evelyn's expression seemed to say, "Is it that simple?"
Cathy did not respond to Evelyn at all and prepared to see Evelyn's expression after her failure.
Slowly picking up one of the bottles, Evelyn looked at the liquid inside. Then she moved on to the next one... Evelyn did not rush to smell them first. Instead, she examined them one by one.
The onlookers observed Evelyn's deliberate movements with curiosity. Specifically, they awaited her failure.
Given the company's involvement and the recent news surrounding Evelyn, she was a familiar name to everyone in the office. She was often perceived as someone who had allegedly stolen company secrets in pursuit of a position at Neogenito Fragrances.
Consequently, she wasn't particularly well-liked among her colleagues.
Evelyn could sense their hostility. However, it didn't matter to her. Although she used to doubt her own abilities, she now felt confident.
After finishing with the three bottles of perfume, Evelyn put them back in their original places and withdrew her hand. She stood up straight and calmly looked at Cathy.
Cathy took a sip of her coffee, patiently awaiting Evelyn's next move. She wasn't in a rush; her patience knew no bounds.
Unexpectedly, Cathy's wait was short-lived. Evelyn didn't even attempt to open the bottle cap. Confusion clouded Cathy's mind as she questioned whether Evelyn had surrendered so swiftly.
"What? You're giving up so soon?" Cathy sarcastically laughed and said, "Forget it. I won't test you anymore. Since you can't—"
"Ms. White, you're joking," Evelyn suddenly spoke. What she said next shocked Cathy and instantly made her stop.
"How could these be rejected products from our company? They should be the new products developed by the company half a month ago. Now is the best time for their market debut," Evelyn slowly said.
Cathy didn't say anything. But the other people looked at each other in astonishment and silently wondered who had leaked the information to her.
Looking at Cathy's calm expression, Evelyn continued, "Actually, these three should be the same perfume. However, each bottle contains a different ingredient, so they have subtle differences. It is because of these subtle differences that they are three different perfumes."
"Is that so?" Cathy sneered. She seemed to be laughing at Evelyn's foolishness and implying that Evelyn was wrong.
But Evelyn didn't doubt herself nor feel confused. On the contrary, she firmly continued, "That's right! These three perfumes only have one different ingredient, so it is possible that people without much knowledge in perfumes may not perceive their differences.
"But those who frequently use perfumes can distinguish them. Even if they couldn't distinguish them at first, time will gradually reveal the underlying scent. However, if I have to choose, personally, I think..."
Evelyn reached out and grabbed the bottle on the far right. "This one would be better. It's more suitable for our target consumers: young women aged between 18 and 23."
Silence prevailed. No one affirmed Evelyn's correctness, nor did anyone refute it.
Cathy still smiled and looked at Evelyn. "Are you sure?"
"I'm sure!" Evelyn nodded immediately.
Pressing her lips together, Cathy didn't say anything but stopped looking at Evelyn disdainfully. On the contrary, Cathy gradually began to ponder.
"Ms. White, I know you want to test me. If you're not satisfied, I can tell you all the spices..."
Evelyn really started naming various spices.
If there were still doubts about Evelyn before, she had now convinced at least half of the people present.
Evelyn showcased her extraordinary ability. While many people sitting there struggled to discern the distinctions, the unassuming Evelyn swiftly grasped them, even amidst Cathy's deliberate challenges.
Some people quietly praised Evelyn and began to like her.
Even so, Evelyn didn't seem happy. From the moment she accepted the challenge until now, after smoothly passing the test, there hadn't been any noticeable emotional shifts.
This question seemed really simple to Evelyn. She thought Cathy shouldn't have made it so easy for her to pass.
"That's right," Cathy spoke up. "You're right, including the spice combination. It seems you're not as incapable as rumored. You have the ability.
"But..." Cathy casually touched the bottle on the table and sharply looked at Evelyn. "You didn't even open the bottle just now, so how could you know the details? Unless someone leaked the answers to you?"
Cathy suspected Evelyn of cheating!
Evelyn finally smiled. "Ms. White, your joke is interesting. The question was issued by you. We made a bet on the spot. How could someone leak the answers to me?"
Evelyn looked around. Others also felt that Evelyn was right.
Cathy looked at her and said, "Well then..."
