Chapter 56 Few people knew about this connection
Rosen had brown hair and facial features that lacked delicacy, yet his deep contours lent him a striking three-dimensional appearance. Overall, he could be deemed handsome.
Sensing the scrutiny, Rosen glanced at Vivian. Their eyes met, causing Vivian to pause briefly before offering him a polite smile.
Rosen smiled slightly.
Once they got in the car, Rosen sat in the back seat, Vivian in the passenger seat, and Liam drove.
Originally, Liam had a driver, but in order to show his utmost sincerity, Liam decided to personally drive and pick up Rosen.
As he drove, Liam occasionally glanced at Rosen through the rearview mirror. "Mr. Rosen, I'll take you to the hotel to drop off your luggage first, and then you can rest. In the evening, I'll throw a party to welcome you properly."
"Mmm," Rosen lightly responded, expressionless.
Even so, Liam's enthusiasm remained undiminished. "I'm really glad you could come and help. Ms. Mitchell has already talked to me about you, and I believe the challenges our company is facing are nothing to someone like you. You..."
"I'm a bit tired. Let's talk about it tonight, okay?" Rosen interrupted him, then closed his eyes and leaned back.
He clearly didn't want to deal with Liam anymore.
After being interrupted, Liam quickly regained his composure. "Alright, no problem. You rest first, and I'll let you know when we arrive!"
Liam's obsequious words made Vivian uncomfortable. She frowned and glanced at Liam, then looked at Rosen in the back seat through the rearview mirror.
Vivian thought to herself, 'Regardless of who he is, this is too impolite. He clearly wears a look of refusal, yet Liam still wants to please him. And the mention of Ms. Mitchell by Liam...'
Vivian felt like she was familiar with that surname. Suddenly, she thought of someone.
"Liam, is the Ms. Mitchell you mentioned..." she quietly asked, but Liam interrupted her, "Hey!"
Liam furrowed his brows and shook his head, then used his eyes to signal the back seat. He continued, "You've been working hard these past few days, take a nap for now. At night, we'll throw a party for Mr. Rosen together."
Vivian understood that Liam couldn't discuss it openly at the moment, so she didn't ask further and nodded. "Then be careful while driving."
After speaking, she adjusted herself into a more comfortable position and leaned against the window to sleep.
In the back seat, Rosen slowly opened his eyes.
…
After settling Rosen in the hotel and agreeing on a time to pick him up later in the evening, Liam left the hotel.
When there were only two people, Vivian finally could ask all her questions. "Liam, who is Mr. Rosen? Why are you being so polite to him? I don't think he cares about us at all. Is it necessary for you to try so hard to please him? And what industry expert? I've never heard of him before. Is he lying?
"You dragged me around just to meet him, but now that he's here, he hasn't done anything yet. Shouldn't you wait and see if he really has the ability before making a decision? What if he's a fraud?"
Vivian thought about it and found Rosen's attitude very displeasing.
"He's not a fraud, trust me! I was able to invite him because I got some help." Liam placed his hands on the steering wheel and sighed in relief.
Although the problem hadn't been solved yet, there were no major issues for him anymore. Since Rosen had already arrived, nothing should go wrong.
Liam thought to himself, 'Even though Evelyn is impressive, she's merely a young newcomer to society. What could she possibly know? How could she rival this expert? Her little tricks are nothing in his eyes!'
Upon hearing Liam's words, Vivian suddenly remembered the interrupted question from earlier. "By the way, you mentioned Ms. Mitchell. Is she... your mother?"
She cautiously probed.
Liam remained silent for a moment, then nodded.
Liam's mother, Ava Mitchell, remarried many years ago. Liam's stepfather's family was quite famous, so Ava had put a lot of effort into marrying him.
Being the wife of a wealthy person wasn't easy. Aside from being beautiful, intelligent, and quick-witted, there were also demanding requirements in other aspects.
Ava used to be a movie star, but the groom's family didn't like her, so she retired from the industry. As for Liam, it was even more impossible for Ava to have him by her side.
For all these years, Liam was raised by his grandmother. His surname was the same as his biological father's, and in public or in front of others, he never called Ava "mom," instead referring to her as "Ms. Mitchell." Only extremely close people knew that Ava was Liam's mother.
Even Evelyn didn't know.
Initially, Liam didn't have much contact with his mother, and Vivian didn't dwell on it either until Liam mentioned Ms. Mitchell today; it suddenly struck her.
But now, she could let go of her worries.
"Since your mom introduced him, there must be no problem. Oh, how could I forget about your mom? With our difficulties now, she definitely wouldn't ignore you. Compared to her network and abilities, what is Evelyn?" Vivian was quite happy. She thought all the problems could be solved now.
"If I didn't have no other choice, I wouldn't want to bother her. She... doesn't want me to trouble her either," Liam said quietly, with his head lowered.
Seeing that he was in a bad mood, Vivian comforted him, "Hey, she also has her own difficulties. You've also said before that she has a lot of obligations in her big family. Since she's willing to help us now, it means she still cares about you.'"
"Maybe," Liam said, lacking confidence.
After Ava remarried, she rarely contacted him or showed concern for him. Occasionally, when Ava visited Liam's grandmother's house, she would buy some fresh things for Liam, but he rarely saw a smile on Ava's face.
Liam understood that once Ava got married and started a family, he could never openly acknowledge her as his mother. Still, he yearned to achieve something meaningful. He wanted Ava to witness his success, proving that he could thrive without her.
Liam was on the verge of success when he suddenly made a mistake. Now, he needed Ava's help.
When Ava called, Liam was surprised, but he... had no reason to refuse.
He hoped Rosen could save them and solve the company's predicament!
…
By evening, Vivian's attitude towards picking up Rosen was clearly different.
Before, she was unsure if Rosen was a fraud or how capable he really was. But upon hearing Liam say that Rosen was introduced by his mother to help, Vivian felt much more at ease.
Ms. Mitchell was someone who truly lived in Bagore's upper class society. The people she interacted with and the circles she was involved in meant that she knew no ordinary people. So Vivian absolutely believed that Rosen could help them.
"Mr. Rosen, we are truly grateful that you could come and help!"
Vivian took the initiative to pour wine for Rosen. She was wearing a wine red strapless dress, almost the same color as the wine in the bottle. Her bending posture created a strong contrast between her snow-white chest and the vibrant color of the wine, which was very enticing.
Faced with Liam and Vivian's hospitality, Rosen only glanced at them. "I owe Ms. Mitchell a favor. If I promise something, I will definitely do it."
"Yes, yes!" Liam nodded repeatedly. "This should be very easy for you. But regardless, we are very grateful to you!"
Rosen took a sip of the red wine, then slowly raised his head and glanced at Vivian.
His gaze traced from Vivian's forehead down to her nose, lips, chin... and finally settled on her chest.
Liam was speechless.
He suddenly felt a little uncomfortable, but he kept silent and only gripped his fork, mindful of Rosen's status and his need for Rosen's help.
"Are you also a perfumer?" Rosen asked.
Vivian was taken aback for a moment, then hurriedly nodded. "Yes, yes, we're colleagues! But I can't compare to you. You're a master! I can only be considered an apprentice!"
She smiled, trying to lower her posture and appear very humble.
"Have you won many awards and created several well-known perfumes?" Rosen asked casually, lifting his glass.
Vivian didn't understand Rosen's meaning and instinctively looked at Liam, who was also puzzled.
"That's just my luck, I still have a lot to learn. I should learn more from you!" Vivian replied.
"Luck?" Rosen scoffed, his laughter tinged with irony. "As a perfumer, you need talent, dedication, opportunities, and connections, but you don't need luck!"
"Well..." Vivian felt embarrassed and didn't know what to say.
"Since you consider yourself a seasoned perfumer, can't you tell the subtle differences in the formulas?"
Rosen's words were sharp, and his gaze towards Vivian was scrutinizing, which made her uncomfortable. She gently bit her lip, her face turning red. "Mr. Rosen, it's not that I can't tell, but..."
She said angrily, "It's because Evelyn is too cunning!"
