Chapter 65 You Think Too Highly of Her
"Mr. Scott?" Laura asked, surprised, and tried to clear her head. "What are you doing here?"
"I heard you were on sick leave. As a leader, shouldn't I show concern for my subordinates?" Liam answered.
He stood there as if he knew she was peering through the peephole and suddenly leaned in.
Laura was startled by his enlarged face and took two steps back.
"You!" she said, startled.
"Laura, do you plan to keep the door closed and talk to me from there?" Liam asked.
"Mr. Scott, I'm sick and alone at home. It's not convenient," she replied, not wanting to open the door or say much to Liam.
She didn't have much to talk with him about. His unexpected visit was not a good sign.
Fortunately, her mother was out shopping.
Just as she thought about it, a voice came from outside, "Who are you?"
"Hello, I'm Laura's boss, Mr. Scott from Liavian Perfumes," Liam replied.
"Okay, you're the boss!" Laura's mother immediately said enthusiastically, "Why are you standing here? Laura is at home! She must have been asleep and didn't hear. Let me open the door!"
At this point, she had to open the door, so she quickly tiptoed back to her room and closed the door.
"Mr. Scott, please come in and have a seat!" Laura's mother greeted warmly, put down the groceries, and called out to her daughter, "Laura, your boss is here!"
There was no response. She turned to Liam with an awkward smile, "Please have a seat. Laura is a heavy sleeper. Let me call her again!"
"Is that so? I thought I heard her talking just now," Liam smiled as he sat on the sofa.
Laura knew that there was no point in hiding, so she changed into suitable clothes and opened the door.
Laura called out, "Mom."
"Laura, your boss is here," Laura's mother informed. She gestured for her to go, then went to make coffee.
"Mr. Scott," she reluctantly walked over and stood there without any intention of sitting down.
Liam crossed his legs, looked up at her, and smiled slightly. "Laura, how have you been lately?"
Laura's mother, who was bringing coffee and fruits, heard this and quickly said, "She's been fine."
"Is that so? But Laura has been taking a lot of sick leave recently. I thought something was wrong, so I came to check on her," he said and pretended to be surprised.
"Taking a lot of sick leave?" Laura's mother was also surprised and turned to look at her, "What's wrong? Where does it hurt?"
"Mom, it's nothing," she frowned and said softly.
Her mother didn't understand the work-related issues, and she didn't want to worry her, so every time she took sick leave, she would go out to gather materials or find a place to spend the day.
The money on hand was enough so she could stall Liam like this. She felt that with their patience if she stalled for another month, she would be fired, and then she would be free. She didn't expect Liam to come to her door.
"What's wrong?" her mother patted her.
Luara's mother added, "I've noticed that you haven't been yourself lately. You keep taking time off. You're just being lazy! You're slacking off at work. What else do you want to do?"
As she spoke, she hit her a few times. Laura didn't dodge; she just said helplessly, "Don't worry about it. Do your own thing."
"I don't want to bother with you. Can you be more responsible? Now, even your boss has come to our house. Tell me, can you show some initiative?" her mother chided.
"Mom!" She felt helpless.
Liam, who was on the side, seemed to be watching a play. He waited until Laura was hit a few times and spoke up, "I think Laura might have some other reason, so don't blame her. I didn't come here to accuse her. I just wanted to show some concern in case she's not feeling well or has encountered some difficulties."
"Mr. Scott, can we talk outside?" Laura was annoyed as she looked at him.
She had underestimated Liam. He was more despicable than she had imagined! He actually came to her house and used her mother's pressure to suppress her. The purpose had already been achieved.
Liam spread his hands, "Sure, whatever you want."
Laura's mother had already prepared the coffee. When she heard this, she quickly put down the coffee cup and said, "Mr. Scott, Laura has been a bit spoiled by me and can be quite willful at times. But she is still a good girl. If she has been slacking off at work recently, you can scold her, but she still needs this job!"
"Mom, please stop," she pleaded. She felt helpless and realized that her mother was only causing more trouble.
Laura's mother glared at her and thought that she didn't understand her good intentions.
"Don't worry, Laura needs this job, and our company needs Laura," Liam replied.
"That's good!" Laura's mother nodded repeatedly and said, "Hurry up and thank your boss."
"Mr. Scott, let's go outside and talk!" Laura insisted, she couldn't stand it anymore and stood at the door.
Laura said, "Mom, I'll be right back."
"Okay, have a good talk with your boss!" Laura's mother walked up to her and whispered.'
Laura and Liam went to the downstairs cafe together. Although Liam ordered two cups of coffee, she had no intention of drinking any.
Laura asked, "Mr. Scott, what do you mean? Did you deliberately come to my house?" Her tone was unfriendly, and she was no longer as indifferent as before.
Liam smiled, took a sip of coffee, and said, "Just showing concern for my subordinates!"
"Let's cut to the chase, Mr. Scott. I know what you want, but I'm sorry, I really don't know Evelyn's formula. You know, every perfumer has their exclusive formula, which is impossible to share with others. And I'm her assistant. I'm still with Liavian Perfumes. Why do you think she would trust me?" She said in one breath.
Liam didn't interrupt her; he just smiled and calmly looked at her. After she finished speaking, Liam nodded.
Liam remarked, "You have a point, but I'm not here to ask you for any formula. Do you really think that without Evelyn, Liavian Perfumes can't survive? She played a little trick, and we had no way to deal with her. You think too highly of her!"
Laura really thought he was here for the previous incident. She hadn't been to the lab these days and didn't know how things had progressed. She just wanted to let them mess things up.
However, when she looked at Liam, she pondered whether the problem was solved.
