Chapter 219 You Can Handle It If You Can

"Alright, I got it. Don't worry, everything's fine." Evelyn hung up the phone and stared at the big wooden box, totally puzzled about how security managed to deliver it. Hugging it with both hands, she still felt strained. Samuel had mentioned getting it to an open space, but who was going to move it?

Evelyn stood there, looking distressed, while Laura, who had just finished breakfast and washed her hands, was buzzing with excitement. Seeing Evelyn staring at the box, Laura leaned in. "Haven't opened it yet?"

"I'm worried it's some kind of prank," Evelyn said helplessly. "And how I open it?"

"It's a piece of cake! Just grab some pliers and a screwdriver, and we can get it open!" Laura said confidently, gesturing as she spoke.

"If you think you can handle it, go ahead!" Evelyn said, motioning for Laura to take over.

Laura rolled up her sleeves, ready to dive in, but then she paused and chuckled. "I know the theory, but I've never actually done it. Maybe we should call a professional."

That turned out to be a smart move. Evelyn called in a pro who specialized in assembly and disassembly. The guy showed up with a specialized toolbox and, after a few hammer taps, confidently said, "Piece of cake!"

Soon enough, the outer packaging was off. The tension in the room was palpable; no one knew what was inside. Curiosity had everyone craning their necks, but they were also a bit nervous.

When the outer packaging was finally removed, everyone gasped in amazement. It wasn't a prank or a joke; inside was a stunning wooden carving of a crane. One foot was standing, the other tucked up, wings spread as if it was about to take flight.

The wood carving kept its natural color; the lines were so smooth and detailed that it looked incredibly lifelike. It was clear that the craftsmanship was top-notch.

"What is this?" Cathy, who had just arrived from a business meeting, was shocked to see the large wooden carving.

"Cathy," Laura called out, jogging over, "someone sent Evelyn a gift, and it's amazing!"

"A gift?" Cathy circled the crane. "This is really unique!"

Thinking about Liam's balloon confession trick from a few days ago, Cathy guessed, "Is this from Liam again?"

Evelyn was taken aback and then shook her head.

From the moment Evelyn saw the crane, she was stunned and lost in thought before regaining her composure.

Even though there was no name or note, Evelyn knew who sent it. The wood carving, the craftsmanship—there was no one but Alex.

Evelyn thought, 'Alex hasn't disappeared! Or rather, he hasn't left at all; he's still in the city, nearby. Otherwise, he wouldn't have arranged for this to be delivered to me.'

She had mentioned wanting to carve a state mythical creature for an elderly person's birthday party but hadn't decided on the design yet. Evelyn had a vivid imagination for scents and flavors but lacked concrete ideas.

She had a rough idea, but when it came to specifics or a complete concept, she was at a loss. She had planned to finalize the design first and then discuss it slowly with Alex, but Alex left before she could do so.

Days later, Alex unexpectedly delivered the carving, and it was done exceptionally well! Alex must have taken Evelyn's request seriously!

"If it's not from Liam, then it must be from your boyfriend," Laura smirked, giving Evelyn a knowing look.

At that moment, only Laura knew who Evelyn's boyfriend was. Evelyn initially wanted to deny it, but then she thought that if she did, everyone would be more interested in who the gift-giver was, possibly more than the gift itself.

Evelyn didn't want to be questioned for long, so she vaguely replied, "Yes."

"Look at Evelyn's boyfriend, so creative!"

"Yeah, I've seen people send flowers, chocolates, makeup, and handbags, but this is the first time I've seen someone gift a wood carving."

"Speaking of which, Evelyn, shouldn't your boyfriend give you rare spices or something you like?"

Colleagues were chatting away, getting all lively. Cathy coughed twice. "Why aren't you all this enthusiastic during meetings?"

Startled by Cathy's reminder, they realized they were in the office, still working. Everyone quickly sat down, avoiding further discussions.

After a quick scan, Cathy withdrew her gaze and turned to Evelyn. "About this thing..."

Cathy hesitated. "Why don't you put it in my office for now and take it home after work?"

After some thought, Evelyn nodded. "Alright!"

Once unpacked, it became considerably easier to move; one simply needed to exercise caution. In fact, the crane itself wasn't particularly large; it was just that the packaging was quite substantial to prevent any damage from collisions. The entire piece was framed in wooden slats. Fortunately, it remained unscathed when unpacked.

When the crane was moved to the office and placed in a corner, it looked vibrant and lifelike, becoming more appealing the longer one looked at it.

Cathy glanced at it several times and found it quite delightful. "Ask your boyfriend where he bought it from; I want to get one too. It's really nice!"

Evelyn fell silent.

"What's wrong? Can't I ask where to buy it? Don't worry. I won't buy the same one as you! If no one gives me one, can't I buy one myself?" Cathy jokingly nudged Evelyn with her elbow.

Evelyn said, "I'll ask later."

Alex sent something over even without a note, so Evelyn didn't even know how to reach him. Moreover, knowing Alex's temperament, whether he would be willing to help was still a question mark.

"Cathy." Laura's voice came from outside, knocking on the door.

Cathy responded, "Come in."

Laura entered the room, looking at Evelyn. "Evelyn, Liam has issued an apology statement."

"What?" Evelyn was taken aback, almost thinking she misheard.

"An apology?" Cathy was also surprised, immediately getting up to open her computer.

Liam indeed had released an apology statement, which was quite lengthy, resembling a short essay. It appeared to have been posted not long ago, yet it had already garnered significant attention.

"He confessed?" Cathy asked. Evelyn and Laura, who were also puzzled.

Cathy, Evelyn, and Laura leaned in to read the contents together.
