Chapter 120 Not Suitable for The Young
Evelyn slept like a log.
It wasn't because Evelyn was exhausted from spending all day in the lab, but because—
After developing a new field, Evelyn discovered that men and women inherently differed in certain aspects of energy.
For instance, her husband, Mr. Whitman, had already gotten up early to go to a meeting at the company, and she didn't even know when he left. She vaguely remembered him kissing her forehead before leaving, but it was just a faint memory.
It was not very clear.
Evelyn finally reached her vibrating phone after fumbling around with her fingers, almost hanging it by her ear. "Hello?"
"Evelyn, it's me." It was Laura's voice, sounding quite energetic.
"Uh, you're up so early. Don't you need more rest?" she mumbled drowsily, rolling over and not wanting to move at all.
"Early?" Laura checked the time. "It's almost six. Is that early?"
"Six? Isn't six early?" Evelyn asked. Her mind was still in a state of emptiness, and she almost hung up the phone the next second.
"Sister, it's six in the afternoon. You don't think it's six in the morning, do you?"
" Isn't sixin the afternoon early? Hmm... huh... huh?!"
Gradually coming back to her senses, Evelyn suddenly woke up. "What? Six in the afternoon?!"
Seemingly unable to believe it, Evelyn picked up her phone and glanced at it carefully. It was indeed almost six in the afternoon!
Stunned for two seconds, Evelyn jumped out of bed barefoot and ran to the window, pulling back the curtains to look outside. The setting sun, on the verge of collapse, seemed to mock her for wasting a day.
What? Did Evelyn sleep the whole day?
"Evelyn, you didn't... sleep from last night until now, did you?"
Although it seemed quite clear, Laura still asked.
Running her fingers through her hair, Evelyn sat down on a chair by the window, feeling tired even though she knew the time.
Gazing at the crimson hues in the sky, Evelyn released a sigh of resignation. "Forget about it. What does it matter what time it is? Isn't today a day off?"
"No, we agreed to celebrate with Cathy yesterday. What time were we supposed to meet?" Her thoughts lingered on the suggestion, hoping the organizer hadn't forgotten.
Evelyn, not forgetting but feeling no urgency, responded, "Any day will do. I'll give her a call and see when she's available!"
Experiment activities in the lab had temporarily come to a halt, so she and Laura could relax a bit, but not Cathy.
Cathy still bore the responsibility of the entire department, so they had to go by her schedule.
"Okay, you make the appointment. I'm free anytime." Laura was still quite excited, as it was the first big event since she had switched jobs. It was worth celebrating.
"Catch you later." Before Evelyn could hang up, she heard Laura urgently say, "Oh—"
"What's wrong?" Bringing the phone closer to her ear again, Evelyn felt lazy all over.
"Um, about that trip Samuel mentioned to celebrate... did he tell you where we are going?" Bringing it up herself, she felt a bit embarrassed but was genuinely curious.
"No."
Evelyn propped herself up and went to the bathroom to freshen up, putting the phone on speaker and then brushing her teeth.
With toothpaste bubbles in her mouth, she heard Laura exclaim. "What? You didn't discuss this last night! I thought..."
Last night?
Scenes from last night flashed in Evelyn's mind. It was like a romantic movie!
Discuss? Discuss what! She didn't have the leisure, time, or opportunity for that!
Looking at herself in the mirror, dark circles under her eyes were prominent, every bone in her body felt like it had been disassembled and reassembled, her face clearly showing exhaustion.
"Evelyn, Evelyn, are you still there?" Not getting a response, not even a word, Laura even thought she had hung up.
"What?" She responded after rinsing her mouth and spitting out the foam.
"It's nothing. Do you have a planned destination? I know I don't really have the right to ask, but I'm quite excited. It's been a while since I went out for fun," Laura said.
Laura, who spent all day in the lab, neither had enough time nor money to go out, so she was thrilled at the opportunity.
"Why don't you have the right to ask? You're going, too, so you can suggest." Wiping her face, Evelyn picked up her phone and walked out of the bathroom. "We haven't decided yet. Do you have any suitable places to recommend? We're open to suggestions!"
"Really?!" Laura was ecstatic not only to be able to go but also to give suggestions. It was simply wonderful.
"When have I ever lied to you." Evelyn patted her stomach, which was now growling, indicating she was quite hungry.
Indeed, when people were asleep, they were oblivious to everything. However, their bodies revolted upon waking up.
"Laura, wait for me. I'll call Cathy. How about we celebrate now?"
"Now?!" Evelyn was decisive and quick to act.
"Are you unavailable?" Laura quickly shook her head. "No, I'm at home."
"Alright, I'll call you after I'm done!"
Cathy was very willing to go out and celebrate with them. As long as she didn't have to work overtime, she had relatively free time after work, so she readily agreed.
Not only did Cathy agree, but she also insisted on paying the bill, not allowing Evelyn to argue. Evelyn didn't mind. She would pay first anyway.
After changing clothes, Evelyn headed straight to the restaurant. Laura arrived earlier, as Cathy had to ensure everything was in order at the company before joining them, causing a slight delay.
It gave Evelyn the opportunity to brief Laura. "Cathy doesn't know about my situation; don't let it slip."
"What situation?" Laura blinked, but as soon as she saw Evelyn's stern look, she immediately realized. "Oh, you mean that..."
"She doesn't know?" Laura asked.
Evelyn shook her head. "She only knows I have a boyfriend, but not know who. I didn't plan to tell anyone about this."
Seeing Laura's mouth about to split open with a smile, she continued, "If you hadn't coincidentally run into it yesterday, I still wouldn't have said anything."
Laura's half-blossomed smile suddenly faded. "I thought I was special!"
"You are quite special! Only you know now!" Evelyn patted her shoulder, saying seriously, "So, remember to keep it a secret!"
With that said, Laura became happy again. "Yes, it is a secret!"
Laura had learned a big secret, shared only between her and Evelyn, and it felt really good!
She suddenly thought, 'What would Liam's expression be like if he knew who Evelyn's new boyfriend was?' She was already looking forward to that day!
