Chapter 28 Up to You
"Evelyn went against the company's arrangements and colluded with other companies to betray Liavian Perfumes, so she has already been fired," Liam said casually and threw an envelope to Laura. "You have worked at Liavian Perfumes for a while. I know about your performance. Keep up the good work. Your future is bright!"
Laura lowered her head and glanced at the bulging envelope.
"Open it." Liam gestured with his chin and smirked.
Laura didn't need to pry open the envelope. As Liam tossed it carelessly onto the table, a flash of green spilled from within. The sheer thickness of the wad spoke volumes—a hefty sum of money.
"Mr. Scott, are you trying to bribe me?" Laura raised an eyebrow but didn't take the envelope.
"Hush!" Liam shook his head. "This is a reward for your hard work. As long as you work well and follow the company's arrangements, you will receive more rewards."
"Thank you."
Laura picked up the envelope and stuffed it into her pocket. No one would refuse money. Since it was a reward for her hard work, Laura had no reason to refuse the money.
Relief washed over Liam as Laura took the money. He interpreted it as a sign of her willingness to help.
"Laura, you are most familiar with our company's recent research and development and products. From now on, you will be Ms. Reed's assistant."
At this moment, Vivian stood up and walked slowly to observe Laura. "Since you have been working with Evelyn for so long, have you learned any secret formulas?"
Laura shook her head. "I have no talent, so I was just her assistant. Evelyn came up with all the formulas and ideas."
"Shut up!" Vivian said impatiently. "Are you close with Evelyn? You should know who gives you your salary! Evelyn betrayed the company and sold the company's trade secrets. She will go to prison! If you're not afraid of going to prison with her, continue being so close to her!"
Facing Vivian's reprimand, Laura sneered and placed her work permit, company ID card, and her resignation letter, which had been prepared in advance, on Liam's desk.
Liam was completely baffled, asking, "What are you doing?"
Liam thought, 'Didn't she take my money? She should have agreed to be on our side! Did she betray me because Vivian got angry and blamed her?'
"Mr. Scott, thank you for the reward. But I am quitting," Laura said with a smile.
"Quitting? Who allowed you to quit?" Liam's voice cracked with surprise. His demeanor turned icy. "You just took my money. So what does this mean now? Do you regret it?"
"Money?" Laura chuckled, patting her pocket. "Mr. Scott, I thought this was in recognition of my performance. I've put in the extra hours, late nights, and weekends for this company. A token of appreciation feels appropriate."
"You!"
Her words struck a nerve, almost causing him to faint from anger.
"Are you in cahoots with Evelyn?" Vivian immediately interrogated, "Did she tell you to do this?"
"Ms. Reed, you are wrong. I am only in cahoots with facts and justice. Evelyn trained me during the years I worked for Liavian Perfumes. I am well aware of how much Evelyn has contributed to the company and to you. Join forces with you? Sorry, I can't do that because I find you disgusting!"
Laura looked at Liam contemptuously and continued, "I hope I will never see you again."
Laura turned to leave, but Liam roared behind her, "How dare you leave? Your resignation is denied. You're still with Liavian Perfumes. There's no walking out that door."
Unfortunately, his threat was in vain.
Laura stopped and turned slowly, looking at his angry expression. She smiled, saying, "Whatever! Mr. Scott, starting today, I will decide whether or not I will come to work and when, based on my mood. You can consider me absent or late! I don't care."
After speaking, Laura opened the door and walked out.
"You're just letting her go?" Surprised and looking at the empty doorway, Vivian turned to Liam, "She will definitely slander us to the journalists once she goes outside. How could you let her go?"
"What can I do?" Liam barked, "This is the company! So many people outside saw her enter my office. Can I lock her up?"
"What do we do now?" Vivian anxiously bit her lip.
Now there were many doubts about Vivian from the outside. The reputation she had worked hard to establish was ruined. Thinking about this, Vivian wanted to kill Evelyn.
Vivian thought, 'Is this woman crazy? She has been obedient all these years. Why is she suddenly rebelling?'
Liam placed his hands on his desk and lowered his head. His fingers clenched into fists.
Because of exerting too much force, the joints of his fingers showed veins and made cracking sounds.
"Since that's the case, we can only take action first! Let's make a bet!" He slammed his fist on the table and looked up. There was a determined gleam in his eyes. "Call the lawyer immediately. I want to draft the lawsuit documents. Also, you go contact some college classmates."
"Huh?" Vivian couldn't understand his thoughts for a moment and suspected she had misheard. "At this crucial moment, why do you want to contact college classmates? Are you planning to have a reunion?
"Do you want our college classmates to help convince Evelyn? Dream on! It's impossible! Evelyn was never sociable during our time in school, so how could she listen to the advice of classmates she hasn't been in touch with for years?"
Vivian thought Liam was daydreaming, so she shook her head.
Liam glanced at her. "What are you thinking? Hurry up and contact those classmates who had a good relationship with us back then. You should be able to find their contact information. Anyway, it will be helpful to me. Hurry!"
Liam thought, 'Since we're already in this situation, Evelyn, you can't blame me for being ruthless! You were the one who pushed me to the brink first!'
…
"Ah!"
The sunlight was bright. Evelyn wrinkled her nose and sneezed loudly.
Someone held her nose with a soft tissue. Evelyn blushed and tried to take the tissue, but his hand moved.
He gently wiped Evelyn's nose and casually threw the tissue into the trash can.
Evelyn wasn't obsessive about cleanliness, but she felt embarrassed.
Who could have imagined that Samuel, the powerful CEO of the Seraphian Group, would actually help Evelyn wipe her nose?
When Evelyn blushed, Samuel naturally wrapped his arm around her waist. "Today is your first day working here. Are you okay?"
