Chapter 162 I Was Here for You Forever
"In the middle layer of your suitcase, there is a black and gold card with no password. You can use it for shopping." Unexpectedly, Samuel said this to Evelyn.
Evelyn was surprised and quickly got up from the bed to search for the suitcase. Sure enough, she found a black and gold card that Samuel had mentioned. With a black background and gold threads crossing the middle, it was clearly not an ordinary card.
"When did you put this in?" Evelyn was clueless.
"It doesn't matter when I put it in, as long as it's useful for you." Samuel paused and continued, "It's not easy being away from home. The most important thing is taking care of yourself by eating and sleeping well. I'm not by your side, so remember to take care of yourself."
These words touched Evelyn deeply, making her feel warm and content.
Throughout her life, Evelyn had been taught to be independent and take care of herself. However, now having someone who cared about whether she was well, seeing these simple things as important in Samuel's eyes, meant a lot to her.
"I see. You take care of yourself, too," Evelyn said softly, her voice unconsciously becoming much gentler.
Samuel's lips curled up slightly as if he remembered something. "By the way, I heard that this time the organizers invited Matthew. He can be a bit difficult. If you encounter him, try to avoid direct conflicts."
Before Evelyn could respond cheerfully, Samuel tentatively asked, "You haven't already encountered him, have you?"
Evelyn let out a soft hum and proceeded to recount everything that had happened that day.
After Evelyn finished speaking, this time, it was Samuel's turn to stay silent.
"Do you feel disappointed in me?" Initially, Evelyn didn't think much of it, but as she recounted the whole incident as an observer, even she felt helpless. She had a conflict with Matthew.
Nevertheless, despite feeling helpless, Evelyn believed she would still make the same choices if given another chance. Evelyn could endure many things, but the specific disdain from Vistalia's perfumer was something she couldn't tolerate.
"Not really." Samuel thought for a while, understanding Evelyn's temperament. However, he didn't expect Evelyn to encounter Matthew on the very first day, especially in such circumstances. "Didn't you resolve the issue? He isn't angry with you, nor did he ask you to leave."
"It wasn't me who resolved it. It was Lisa." Evelyn was honest and acknowledged her capabilities. "If it weren't for the coincidence that Lisa and I was friends, I might have actually been asked to leave today." Evelyn joked, knowing well that it was unlikely.
As an internationally renowned perfumer, Matthew enjoyed significant status and reputation. Even if he were angry, he wouldn't act too harshly in front of so many people. Moreover, Evelyn was right; the organizers were indeed negligent. Matthew was upset at the time because he felt embarrassed. If he had expelled her for that reason, it would have tarnished his reputation.
"In the end, it's because of you. If it weren't for the friends you made earlier, how could you have reaped the rewards today?" Samuel was surprised by Evelyn's social connections. "I never expected Mr. Thompson's daughter to be your friend."
Considering how many people in the world wanted to establish a relationship with Matthew but couldn't, it was astonishing that Evelyn was friends with Lisa!
"I never expected Lisa to be Matthew's daughter. When I met Lisa, she was just an ordinary little girl. Back then, Lisa was quiet and reserved. Who would have thought she would have any connection with Matthew?" Evelyn also found it surprising. She didn't have many friends, yet she encountered someone with such an important background here.
"So, this can be considered an unexpected gain, a stroke of luck for you," Samuel said.
In any case, Samuel felt relieved. With this connection, Matthew should make things easy for Evelyn.
"No! The current situation is truly challenging for me. Whether I win or lose in this evaluation competition, it's not a good outcome for me." Evelyn lamented, lying back on the bed and staring at the ceiling.
"Are you scared?" The chair swiveled as Samuel faced a full-length glass window overlooking the endless cityscape at night. Despite the late hour, Samuel had no intention of going home. The thought of returning to an empty place without Evelyn's presence made staying in the office with a table full of work seem more appealing.
"What's there to be afraid of? I've faced even worse situations before! I can't control how others perceive me. I'll do what I need to do!" Evelyn complained, but deep down, she already had a plan in mind.
This was the current situation. Evelyn was not one to back down in the face of difficulties or withdraw from a challenge just because of others' opinions. She pursued the art of perfumery because of her passion, not to seek validation from others.
If she cared about that, she would have been infuriated when Liam and Vivian teamed up to discredit her.
Samuel chuckled at Evelyn's words. "Go ahead and do what you want to do. I'm here for you forever."
This seemingly casual remark was the greatest encouragement and support for Evelyn. She felt comforted knowing that someone was backing her up. She wasn't alone in her efforts; she wasn't fighting this battle alone.
A knock on the door interrupted their conversation. Initially thinking it was on her side, Evelyn responded before realizing it was for Samuel.
"It seems someone is looking for you. I'll leave now, and we can chat later." Before Samuel could say anything, the call abruptly ended.
Furrowing his brows, Samuel looked at the door that had been continuously knocked on. "Come in."
"Mr. Whitman, Ms. Bennett..." Kyle appeared somewhat awkward, knowing Sophia was a difficult character.
"I told you Samuel was here. Why did you stop me? Kyle, you're becoming more and more clueless. How are you even functioning as a secretary?" Sophia scolded as she swiftly entered the office.
"Ms. Bennett..." Samuel sat up straight and gestured for Kyle to leave.
Sophia, dressed in Chanel's latest tailored coat, removed it upon entering to reveal a tight black dress that seemed tailored to fit her body perfectly, accentuating her beautiful curves.
With a smile on her face, Sophia took a few steps forward, then turned back, slightly annoyed. "Kyle really has no sense of boundaries. He doesn't even know how to close a door."
As she moved to close the door, she heard Samuel say, "No need to close it!"
