Chapter 184 Evelyn's Confusion

Evelyn's kidnapping wasn't spread in the local media, but it did cause a bit of a buzz abroad.

Most folks in the tasting competition circle knew about it. Lisa was super worried and would've rushed to see Evelyn if it weren't so late and Matthew hadn't stopped her.

Olivia was the most confused. As the one kidnapped, she had no clue what happened while she was out cold. She only got a rough idea after the doctor checked her out.

After seeing the news, she kept asking Evelyn, "Is what the news said true? Were we really kidnapped?"

When Evelyn nodded, she was shocked. "How did I not know anything?"

"You were drugged and out cold. It's normal not to know," Evelyn said, pausing like she didn't want to upset Olivia. "The dose was pretty strong."

"So, the drug was in the car's freshener when we got in?" Olivia asked.

Evelyn nodded. "They only planned to kidnap me, but since you insisted on coming along, they took you too. I'm sorry for dragging you into this."

She felt bad because she dragged Olivia into that mess.

"It's not about that. Why are you okay?" Olivia was more puzzled by how she felt like she just slept through the whole thing.

"I..." Evelyn had answered this to Samuel yesterday. She cleared her throat. "I'm a perfumer, so I'm sensitive to scents. I sensed something was off and covered my nose. I still got drugged, but maybe because I got some immunity from my work, I woke up early. Don't worry about it; we're safe now."

Olivia was quiet for a bit, then asked, "Why did they kidnap you?"

"Maybe to stop me from competing in the finals. Or it could be something else. We'll have to wait for the police to figure it out," Evelyn said, trying to change the subject. "Anyway, the criminals are caught, and we're safe. That's good news. We're almost at the finals venue. Aren't you nervous?"

Evelyn pretended to be nervous to distract Olivia.

Seeing her anxious, Olivia stopped thinking about the kidnapping and tried to comfort her. "Don't be too nervous. It's the final round, and I believe in you. If they kidnapped you to disqualify you, it shows how strong you are. Plus, the company doesn't have strict requirements for the final results. Just making it to the finals is great. Relax a bit..."

Olivia suddenly remembered something. "If they didn't want you in the finals, the mastermind must be a finalist or connected to one. Did you tell the police to dig into this?"

Evelyn just stared out the car window, staying silent.

They soon arrived at the venue. Evelyn wore a practical suit for easy movement.

Surprisingly, she wasn't nervous anymore. The kidnapping shifted her focus. Now, she was more concerned about her own body.

Lately, she felt different, especially during the kidnapping. Growing up in the Jones family, she learned judo but was never exceptional. Yet, handling three international criminals was oddly easy. She was puzzled, but had no time to figure it out.

Because of the kidnapping, everyone stared at Evelyn as she entered the venue.

Olivia, as an assistant, had to wait outside. Evelyn straightened up, found her seat, and scanned the room.

Everyone here had skills. Besides her and Vivian, no one from Vistalia was present.

Some foreign perfumers, like Rosen, looked down on Vistalia. It made sense; despite its size, Vistalia had only a few top perfumers. Those who were skilled often left for other countries, draining the talent pool.

This bothered Evelyn. She wasn't super patriotic, but facing foreigners made her feel a sense of pride for Vistalia.

Being looked down on as a native fueled her determination. She decided she had to win first place today.

However, she didn't see Vivian. She expected Vivian to show up and mock her like usual, but she wasn't around.

On the other hand, Vivian wasn't late; she never showed up. Just as she was about to leave for the finals, eager to outshine Evelyn, the police intercepted her at her door.
