Chapter 135 One Word
Alex fell silent for a moment, but he said, "Yes," in a very affirmative tone.
"Any questions?" Alex asked.
"None! In that case, I'll take this type of wood. As for what to do with it, I haven't decided yet. Once I figure it out, I'll come to talk to your boss," Evelyn said as she held the piece of wood and turned to leave.
"That won't do!" Alex hurriedly said from behind Evelyn.
Stopping, Evelyn turned around to look at Alex.
"I don't know how big of a wood carving you plan to make. That wood may not be enough." Alex frowned, looking somewhat conflicted and troubled.
"It's okay if it's not enough. Let your boss handle restocking," Evelyn smiled dismissively, "You don't need to worry about this. Your boss will take care of it."
"But..." Alex pursed his lips. "Even the wood factory doesn't have enough. Anyway, this wood won't work."
Evidently, he had something unsaid, but Evelyn didn't press further. She just smiled lightly and tilted her head to look at Alex. "Kid, be honest when you speak."
"You're only a few years older than me!" He seemed unhappy with being called that, lifting the corner of his lips. "Anyway, this wood just won't do."
"If it won't do, I'll talk to your boss." Evelyn Knew exactly where to strike a chord with Alex. She could easily provoke his anger within a minute.
"You..." Fuming with anger. Alex's cheeks puffed up, looking like a cute little hamster storing food. "Why do you insist on this type of wood? I can give you something else. I guarantee the result will be just as good. No, even better!"
Evelyn just smiled, "If they're all the same, why can't we use this type of wood? Is there something special about it?"
"What makes it different from other woods? Like its fragrance?" Evelyn stepped closer step by step, speaking with a smile, but Alex felt a deep threat.
Looking at the Evelyn in front of him, who had a gentle appearance, not the kind that looked glamorous and flamboyant, but there was a temperament all over her that made him want to escape involuntarily. Alex frowned and scrutinized Evelyn. "Who exactly are you?"
"Who am I? I'm a customer of your shop!" Evelyn said, pinching the small piece of wood in her hand.
It indeed didn't look much different from ordinary wood, but there were unusual stains at the cut as if a sticky substance had oozed out after being cut, leaving dried traces after being dried by the wind for a long time.
But it was those areas that emitted an intoxicating, unusually fragrant aroma, different from anything Evelyn had smelled before, and different from all synthetic products. After all, it was all-natural, even retaining the original scent of the wood.
She thought, 'I had never seen it before. Could it have been grafted later? Just like the maples I ordered from the Tedia Flower Garden Base?'
However, there were rules in every industry. A shop specialized in wood carving sold cravings, and the source of the wood was not easily disclosed. Even if you just wanted to know what kind of wood would emit such a fragrance, the shop owner wouldn't believe you.
Moreover, even if they believed you, for what reason should they help you?
Evelyn couldn't ask directly, so she placed an order, specifying that she wanted to use this type of wood.
As Evelyn guessed, this wood was definitely special, which made Alex nervous and even chased after her.
Sighing, Alex lost his previous anger and defensive posture. "To be direct with you, this kind of wood is not abundant, and it's difficult to source. If you want to make small items, you could make one or two, but for larger ones, it's not possible!"
Looking at his profile, Evelyn absolutely believed what he said was true. "So this wood is so precious, and you still use it for practice?"
"I'm not practicing; I'm carving for myself," Alex said softly, "Anyway, I hope you won't make things difficult for me; it's just not available."
"Alright, I will not make it difficult for you." Nodding, Evelyn already had the answer she wanted. "Here's the deal, I'll customize using other wood, but as for your piece of wood, I won't specify, but you must leave me a small piece. I don't need much. Just a small piece will do!"
Hearing Evelyn's words, Alex was surprised. "What do you need a small piece for?"
"You don't need to worry about that. You just need to know it's not for anything bad," Evelyn smiled, "So, is that okay?"
Alex stared at Evelyn for a while as if trying to see if there was a "villain" written on Evelyn's face.
After a while, as if he had made up his mind, he clenched the hand hanging by his side and nodded slowly. "Alright then."
"Your word is your bond. I'll keep a small piece for you, and you can't have any other ideas about this wood!" Alex was very nervous about this wood, as if afraid it would be taken away.
Evelyn nodded. "It's a deal!"
With a positive response, Alex breathed a sigh of relief and turned to leave.
Watching Alex's figure, Evelyn suddenly remembered she didn't even know his name. "What's your name?"
Alex had already walked a distance but still heard her. He stopped and turned around, and the sunlight lazily spilled over him from behind as if he were enveloped in a golden glow. He looked at Evelyn, and his lips moved. "I'm Alex Redwood."
Evelyn thought, '"Alex Redwood" is a very nice name, but it didn't quite match his fiery temper.'
Seeing Alex walk away, Evelyn continued on her way, but she had yet to go far before a tall figure blocked her path.
Rosen was tall, and with the narrow road, he almost blocked Evelyn's entire path.
Evelyn felt somewhat familiar when she glanced at him. Still, she didn't know many foreigners, and she had slight prosopagnosia for foreigners, so she was a bit stunned for a moment before realizing that he was Rosen, whom she had met last time at Tedia.
Rosen was a special guest at the tasting event, and he had a reputation in the industry.
However, because Rosen mainly operated abroad, there wasn't much information about him domestically, so Evelyn didn't know why Rosen was with Liam or what their relationship was, and she wasn't just interested.
However, Rosen was clearly coming toward Evelyn. Evelyn stood her ground, looked up at Rosen, and said, "Please move aside."
"Ms. Taylor," Rosen spoke slowly.
Rosen brazenly surveyed Evelyn from head to toe, his gaze blatantly exuding malevolence.
It made Evelyn very unhappy. Her face darkened, and she repeated, "Please move aside!"
Unexpectedly, Rosen not only didn't move, but he even reached out his hand towards Evelyn.
