Chapter 206 I Love You
So, Cathy wasn't wrong. This whole mess has been a real pain, like it just won't quit. Evelyn thought she and Liam were done for good, but Liam kept popping back up like a bad penny.
She even told on him, had him hauled off, but that was just a quick fix. Since it wasn't a big deal legally, he got a slap on the wrist and was back out in no time. However, what if he showed up again the next day?
"What's eating you?" Samuel, who was chilling with a book, wrapped his arms around Evelyn from behind. He noticed she was drowning the same plant with water, totally zoned out.
"Huh?" Evelyn snapped back to reality, realizing she had overwatered the plant.
She quickly moved to water another one, but Samuel took the can from her and set it aside. "Alright, enough with the watering."
Feeling a bit miffed, Evelyn asked, "Do you think I'm a troublemaker?"
Samuel just sighed, feeling a bit exasperated. What was up with her?
"If you're a troublemaker, I'll just keep you here and trouble me only!" He kissed her hand gently.
Evelyn couldn't help but laugh.
After a moment, she looked into his eyes and said, "I'm thinking, should we go public with our relationship?"
"What, ready to make me your husband?" Samuel led her to the couch, grabbed a towel, and started drying her hands. He was super careful, cleaning each finger. Despite all her lab work, Evelyn's hands were soft and fair, which he found pretty cute.
"I..." Evelyn hesitated, unsure of what to say next.
"Is this about the balloons at your office today?" Samuel asked.
Evelyn looked at him, surprised and speechless. Neogenito Fragrances was part of the Seraphian Group, Samuel's company. With all the drama, of course, he knew.
Sighing, Evelyn said, "I thought I made it clear, but he just doesn't get it. What's he trying to pull with all this drama?"
"Just ask him and find out," Samuel said, totally unfazed.
"Do you mind?" Evelyn asked carefully.
After all, despite her past mistakes, she did have a real thing with Liam. Samuel knew all about it. Would he mind it?
Samuel stopped drying her fingers, looked up, and asked calmly, "Do you still like him?"
Evelyn shook her head vigorously.
After blowing the lid off Liam and Vivian's true colors and getting dragged through the mud so many times, Evelyn seriously needed a reality check if she still had feelings for Liam.
"Well, that's that," Samuel grinned. "You don't have feelings for him, so why would I care if you meet him to sort things out?"
"If you wanna handle it yourself, cool. If it's a hassle and you don't wanna deal, I got you." Samuel tossed the towel aside, took Evelyn's hand, crouched down in front of her, and said gently, "You know, whatever you decide, I'm with you."
Evelyn threw her arms around his neck. "I love you. You're the best!"
Samuel looked stunned, like he didn't hear right. "What did you say? Say it again?"
"You're the best!" Evelyn mumbled into his shoulder.
"Not that, the one before. Say it again!" Samuel pulled back a bit, looking into her eyes.
Blushing, Evelyn smiled. "Nope, not saying it twice!"
She tried to dodge his gaze, giggling.
Samuel wasn't letting her off that easy. He cupped her face, making sure she couldn't look away. "Come on, say it again!"
"I won't!" Evelyn's eyes darted everywhere but at him.
"If you don't say it, I'll kiss you!" Samuel teased.
"Go ahead!" Evelyn shot back.
"You..." Samuel felt a bit defeated, like he couldn't really threaten her. He sighed, but then felt her lips on his.
Evelyn had taken the initiative, kissing him, even if a bit clumsily. She was learning to take the lead.
Caught off guard, Samuel quickly responded, guiding her.
After the heated kiss, both were breathless. Samuel let go of the whole name thing.
He'd waited this long. Now that Evelyn was opening up, he could wait a bit more. They had all the time in the world.
Gently kissing his lips, pressing against his nose, Evelyn looked into his eyes. Up close, she could almost count his lashes. In Samuel's eyes, she saw sincerity, love, and affection.
"I love you!" Evelyn said clearly, making sure every word hit home.
Samuel's eyes widened in surprise. Just when he thought he wouldn't hear it again today, Evelyn floored him.
Overjoyed, he hugged her tight, kissing her over and over. "I love you, too, sweetie!"
