Chapter 19 She No Longer Cares
"I like it quiet. Someone comes to clean the house every other day." Samuel loosened his tie. "I'm going to take a shower. You rest first. There's an empty walk-in closet inside. You can put your things in there."
After saying that, he went into the room.
Evelyn breathed a sigh of relief when she heard the sound of running water from inside.
Being in this unfamiliar environment, she really needed some time to adapt.
The villa was big, probably three stories high. The top floor might be an attic, but it wasn't tall, mainly occupying a significant area.
The whole decoration was dominated by cool colors, with relatively simple lines, just like Samuel, cold and capable.
Evelyn walked in with her bag and was shocked by the size of the walk-in closet.
This walk-in closet could even be used as a small bedroom. Apart from two cabinets with men's clothing, everything else was empty.
She had only a few clothes, which she hung up carefully, one by one. Finally, she retrieved a small bag from her purse, holding important documents—Evelyn's ID card and others.
Yet, upon opening it, she realized that one of the documents she had received just the day before was missing.
Samuel had taken the marriage licenses. She didn't know where Samuel had put them and thought she would have to ask later.
At that moment, her phone in her pocket rang. When she took it out and looked at it, it was Liam calling.
Evelyn thought, 'He has been calling me a lot these past few days, more than the total of the past two months.'
She slowly answered the phone, her voice sounding lazy. "Hello?"
"Evelyn, where have you been?"
Evelyn thought, 'He is using a direct questioning tone. Does he still think I am the Evelyn who listens to his orders?'
"Mr. Scott, when did you start caring so much about my whereabouts?" she said teasingly, then placed the bag with her documents into a drawer.
Her tone irritated Liam. "Evelyn, can't you speak properly?"
"I think I have been speaking properly. If you think I don't, then go find someone who does!"
She hung up the phone and walked out of the closet, coincidentally seeing Samuel, who had just finished showering.
His hair dripped with water, a white towel snug around his waist. His upper body was near perfection in proportion. Glancing briefly at Evelyn, who was engrossed in her phone call, he quietly approached.
As he drew nearer, Evelyn's breath seemed to slow almost to the point of forgetting to breathe.
On the phone, Liam was still talking. "What do you mean by that? Didn't I already explain everything to you in the company? Did you meet with someone from Neogenito Fragrances again? Do you still believe what they say?
"Evelyn, don't be foolish. They are trying to ruin our relationship!
"Think about it, we have been together for so many years, don't we know each other well? Don't be angry. I have nothing to do with Vivian.
"Stop overthinking. If you have nothing else, come to the office quickly."
She faintly heard the sound of Liam gasping for air through the phone. Although he quickly disguised it, Evelyn still heard it.
She thought, 'It seems that Vivian is still by his side, and she didn't like what he said.'
'Liam is really good. How does he manage to talk to me while being affectionate with Vivian?
'But it's disgusting.'
Despite feeling repulsed, Evelyn couldn't afford to entertain him at the moment. Her emotions were entirely consumed by the man standing before her.
Samuel stood mere inches away, close enough for her to discern individual water droplets on his chest. His smooth skin and well-defined muscles tempted her to reach out and touch them.
Evelyn instinctively swallowed her saliva.
"Evelyn? Evelyn?"
Since there was no response, Liam suspected that she had muted him and continued to call her.
In that instant, Evelyn's eyes widened as she watched Samuel's tall figure leaning towards her. His handsome face drew nearer.
She held her breath, and then...
Just as their lips were about to meet, he suddenly turned his head to the side and lightly kissed her cheek by her ear. Then, he stood up and walked straight into the closet.
At that precise moment, her phone slipped from her hand and rolled twice on the carpet.
Thankfully, there was a carpet. Otherwise, her phone would have been broken.
But Liam, awaiting her response on the other end of the line, had his eardrums rudely jolted and quickly moved the phone away from his ear.
After adjusting slightly, he immediately roared, "Evelyn! What are you doing?! Are you not listening to me?"
Evelyn squatted to retrieve her phone, hearing the angry roar emanating from the other end. Calmly, she wiped her device, ensuring it remained undamaged, before saying, "Mr. Scott, if you have something to say, please speak plainly."
"You..."
Liam suppressed his anger and told himself to tolerate her temperament until the matter was resolved.
"As I mentioned earlier, the press conference is set for tonight. Swing by the office later, and we'll head over together. We should also plan out our talking points. Our goal is to defuse the situation swiftly and minimize any harm to the company."
Evelyn sneered. "And what about the negative impact on me?"
Liam fell silent and gently said, "Evelyn, this incident has a significant impact on the company. Liavian Perfumes is something we have worked hard for together. You have also put in so much effort, so I believe you don't want anything bad to happen to it either, right?
"This time, just bear with it. When this is over, the company's visibility and influence will be even greater, and we will soon be able to achieve better development. By that time, let's get married, okay?"
Evelyn thought, 'Marriage? He's using that reason again. He always uses it to coax me. But I don't care anymore.'
"Fine." Pausing for a moment, she pretended to be convinced and said, "You're right. I have also put in a lot of effort, and I don't want anything bad to happen to the company."
Evelyn thought, 'But I can also put in effort and take it back! I can build it bit by bit, and I can also destroy it.'
After hearing her response, Liam breathed a sigh of relief. "Then come to the office quickly. I'll be waiting for you!"
After hanging up the phone, Evelyn stood up and saw that Samuel had already changed into his robe, as if he was going to bed.
"I'm going out later," she said directly. "The press conference is scheduled for tonight."
With Samuel's abilities, he would know whether she said it or not. So, it was better for her to be honest when facing him.
"Don't rush. There's still time. Take a rest first!" He calmly approached her. "I've already adjusted the water temperature, and all the things you need are inside. This is a special period. You need to rest well and ensure you have enough energy."
