Chapter 40 Suppressing Odors and Leaving Fragrance
Experimental bases were usually located a bit far from the city center. One reason was that the base occupied a considerable land area, so it was easier to find such a place in the suburbs, and the prices were also reasonable.

"Ms. White, I've arrived." Evelyn called Cathy as she stood at the entrance of the building. She could see clearly that the door was locked, with security guards and access control devices in place. This must be the experimental base.
"Wait for me for five minutes."Cathy replied briefly before hanging up.
Evelyn waited at the entrance.
The surrounding area was spacious, and it seemed that not many people lived here. Evelyn did not expect Neogenito Fragrances' experimental base to be like this.
But this was also normal. After all, Neogenito Fragrances was backed by the wealthy Seraphian Group. Its experimental base would not be like her previous half-run-down factory building. People who didn't know would think that the factory was producing some kind of parts.
Five minutes later, Cathy did indeed come out. She was wearing a lab coat, her hair was tied up, and she was wearing a hat. She looked completely different from before.

Then, Evelyn followed Cathy into the elevator.

However, she still had some doubts in her mind, 'Is Cathy going to let me directly participate in the experiment?'

The profession of a perfumer was very unique, so their soaps couldt have any fragrance in order not to affect the judgment of the scent of the perfume ingredients. Although they don't need to disinfect like doctors, they still had to do basic cleaning.
However, when Evelyn really entered the lab with Cathy, she found that it was completely different from what she had imagined.
To be precise, this should not be a lab.
At least, it wasn't the kind of perfume-making lab she used to work in.
It wasn't fragrant at all, but rather stinky. The whole room was filled with a strange smell.
Evelyn almost threw up!
She fought the urge to vomit and then glanced at Cathy. But Cathy's expression remained unchanged; she didn't react at all, maintaining her indifferent gaze on Evelyn.
"Ms. White, is this your second challenge?" she guessed roughly.
"Are you scared?" Cathy asked.
But this time, Evelyn didn't find any trace of satisfaction on her face. Instead, there was a hint of encouragement.
Evelyn smiled slightly. "Why should I be scared?"
As a perfumer, she couldn't possibly be unaware that in the field of perfume-making, besides creating scents, there was also odor inhibition.
Not all fragrances smelled good; some had unpleasant odors that could even make people nauseous. What perfumers had to do was to utilize the different characteristics of fragrance ingredients to eliminate odors and retain the fragrance.
However, the stench here was so strong. It seemed like this was a laboratory specifically for experimenting with various bad smells. She was... so surprised!
Evelyn anticipated that Cathy would pose challenges, yet she hadn't foreseen this particular approach. Nonetheless, its effect was minimal on her. Her true passion lay in perfume-making, and anything connected to it captivated her. Thus, she could easily embrace it.
Seeing Evelyn looking calm, Cathy was somewhat satisfied. "Don't get too excited yet. Do you think I only want you to inhibit and retain fragrance? That's just the level that any entry-level perfumer should have.
"Now, what I want you to do is to record the detection data of various smells separately. And you need to analyze their different characteristics. There are a total of 48 different smells here, and you need to complete this task within three days. Can you do it?"
"I don't need that long." Evelyn glanced lightly at Cathy and then said, "One day, I only need one day."
Surprise flashed across Cathy's face, but soon her expression returned to normal. "Fine, it's you who said you only need one day! Don't blame me for intentionally making it difficult for you. This is your own decision. Whether you succeed or fail, you have to accept the result yourself!"
"Of course!" Evelyn couldn't wait to get to work.
When Cathy looked at Evelyn's excited face, eager to start the experiment, she suddenly found herself somewhat looking forward to the final result.
Initially, Cathy harbored strong resistance towards Evelyn. Her first impression of Evelyn was unfavorable, making it difficult for her to appreciate others' compliments about Evelyn later on. This feeling intensified when Nasir insisted on retaining Evelyn, deepening Cathy's suspicion.
But after Evelyn gave a preliminary demonstration of her abilities in the meeting room, Cathy's opinion of her changed slightly. At least, Evelyn did have some skills.
But if Evelyn was really that capable, why hadn't Cathy heard of her name in the past few years? If Evelyn was really that talented, and those popular perfumes from Liavian Perfumes were all her creations, then why were other people credited as the developers all along?
Cathy started to have some doubts.
Cathy patted Evelyn's shoulder and said meaningfully, "Some of these 48 smells are quite alike. I just want to make sure you're aware, so you can proceed with caution. We wouldn't want you not only failing to complete the task, but also hurting your own nose in the process."
Although Cathy's words were uncomfortable, Evelyn could tell that she meant well. So Evelyn smiled at her and said, "Don't worry, I promise I can complete the task and pass your assessment!"
Cathy's face also revealed a hint of a smile. However, she immediately restrained that smile. "Don't just make promises. Here, we value results more!"
"Well!"
Just as Evelyn was about to immerse herself in the work, Cathy couldn't help but speak from behind her, "Hey..."
