Chapter 216 Are Women Hiding Here?
Liam's gamble actually paid off a bit. At least now, it wasn't just a barrage of insults. Some folks started questioning why Evelyn didn't speak up earlier if all those Liavian Perfumes creations were really hers. It looked like Evelyn, not getting any love from Liam, was now on a mission to drag him down.
Some people even pointed out that Liam from Liavian Perfumes claimed he hadn't done anything against his conscience or morals. Despite everything, Liam never bad-mouthed Evelyn or Vivian. Whether he loved them both or not, their breakup was at least respectful. But Evelyn? As for Evelyn, she departed from Liavian Perfumes and immediately took a position at Neogenito Fragrances, swiftly retaliating against Liavian Perfumes thereafter. Whether she was an ex-girlfriend or just someone who couldn't win Liam's heart, she shouldn't be trashing him like this. Evelyn's being way too petty.
Laura, clearly pissed, leaned in close to the screen, while Cathy just shook her head beside her.
Cathy said, "Why are there so many people who can't see the truth? The evidence is right there, but they're still defending Liam. I bet he's got some paid supporters online."
"There are indeed paid supporters, and then there are just clueless people," Evelyn replied, totally unfazed.
"But look at this! Even if your evidence is legit, some people are saying you should just forgive and move on. Seriously?" Laura pointed at a comment and read it out loud, slamming the table in frustration.
Cathy, a bit amused, said, "I've heard my team say that there are a lot of forgiving people, half of them are on Facebook. I used to wonder where the other half were. Turns out, they're all on Instagram."
Evelyn laughed at Cathy's joke. "Cathy, I didn't know you had such a sense of humor."
"While you guys are joking, I'm seriously mad!" Laura exclaimed, pulling out more evidence to vent her anger.
"Don't get worked up. It's not worth it. Getting angry just gives you wrinkles and makes you age faster," Evelyn said, comforting Laura like a child. "Why rush? Since I've decided to fight back, I'm not letting him off easy this time. It's time to set things straight!"
"Do you have a plan?" Laura asked, surprised by Evelyn's resolve.
"Don't worry! Let everyone talk a bit more; let Liam enjoy his moment for a couple more days," Evelyn said, totally chill.
The recent online drama had hit Liam's reputation, but he managed to bounce back with quick customer service and a good attitude, earning some goodwill and temporarily shifting the narrative.
"Alright, time to call it a day and head home!" Evelyn said, stretching and yawning.
Before Evelyn could leave, Cathy stopped her. "Wait! You've been kinda passive at work lately. You used to be always in the lab, but now you constantly leave right on time. Spill it, are you hiding a man at home?"
Laura had something on her mind but decided to keep it to herself.
"Yeah, so don't keep me from going home to take care of my man," Evelyn replied, giving Cathy a playful pat on the shoulder.
"Is she acting a bit weird lately?" Cathy asked, making a gesture with her fingers, looking puzzled. Laura just shrugged.
Evelyn had recently bought a car—not too flashy, just a red Porsche for convenience. When she went to the underground parking lot to get it, she was surprised to find someone already waiting by her car.
Evelyn sensed something was off, even though the person didn't get out of the car. She glanced at the adjacent car and saw Nicholas sitting in the back, motioning for her to come over.
With a resigned sigh, Evelyn opened the car door and got in. She glanced at Nicholas, then looked at the red Porsche beside her. "How did you know this was my car?"
"You've been quite busy lately," Nicholas replied, a bit cryptically.
"Yeah, it's been hectic, but I guess you've noticed," Evelyn nodded, realizing that Nicholas even knew what car she drove, let alone the recent online drama.
"I remember you weren't this flashy before," Nicholas remarked, eyeing Evelyn.
"Maybe I've been with the Jones family for too long and needed a change," Evelyn said, looking down and trying to smooth out the wrinkles on her clothes. "You're not just passing by this time, are you? Did Grandfather send you?"
"Birthday party," Nicholas replied, indicating why he was there.
Evelyn nodded slightly. "I figured. I'll be there."
"Are you really not coming back?" Nicholas asked, staring at her.
"I never said I wouldn't come back, just that it's not the right time. Besides, does my return really matter that much to the Jones family? Am I that important?" Evelyn asked.
When Evelyn left the Jones family, she didn't feel any longing. She even felt relieved to escape that oppressive atmosphere. Even when Liam and Vivian deceived her, she never thought about going back.
Although the Jones family could easily deal with Liam, the criticism Evelyn would face upon returning would be unbearable. Hence, Evelyn preferred to face the situation alone rather than return and complain.
Nicholas's eyes held a mix of emotions. He seemed about to say something but stopped himself, eventually saying, "The elderly, they have grown old.“
"The Jones family has long-lived genes. Don't worry!" Evelyn patted his shoulder reassuringly. "I'm off now."
"Wait a moment!" Nicholas called out, handing Evelyn a file folder.
"What's this?" Evelyn asked, puzzled.
"Just some information that might be helpful. Take a look when you have time," Nicholas said nonchalantly.
Raising an eyebrow, Evelyn took the folder, which wasn't too heavy. "Alright."
As soon as she stepped out of the car, Nicholas's vehicle started up and quickly disappeared from sight. Evelyn glanced down at the envelope in her hand, deciding to wait until she got home to check it out.
