Chapter 211 He Even Deceived Me
"Come on, it's just an annual competition. And it's not even time yet," Ava said, looking annoyed. "Why are you freaking out?"
"But it's too late!" Liam was panicking. There were less than two months left, and the participant list was already in. Even if they could make changes, creating a new product and getting results tooktime.
In less than two months, could they even come up with a new product? And even if they did, would it win a prize?
Plus, it wasn't just about the competition. Vivian, the creator of their two new products, was caught up in a big scandal, which had tanked the reputation of the perfumes and the company. Liam had to fix the company's image and explain everything to the board.
And then there were the profits to worry about.
With all this pressure, Liam felt completely alone, like there was no way out.
"There's still time. You can change the list up to a month before the selection. As for your company issues..." Ava paused, then said slowly, "I'll help you."
Ava's words were like a lifeline for Liam. "Really?!"
Ava had never offered to help Liam before. She always kept their mother-son relationship a secret, so Liam couldn't use it to his advantage. He had to prove himself on his own. If he succeeded, Ava might acknowledge him. If he failed, she would act like he didn't exist.
So, no matter what, Liam never asked Ava for help. He knew it wouldn't change anything.
But this time, Ava offered to help. If she was willing to step in, there was hope.
"I..." Liam was speechless.
"Don't get too excited. Let me ask you, how have the company's profits and losses been over the last two quarters?Furthermore, regarding the two so-called new products of yours, their reception in the market has been quite favorable. What percentage of the overall value and profit generated do they constitute?“ Ava asked, looking serious.
Ava continued, "And when Evelyn was still with us, those classic products should still be making money, right? What's their current percentage? Have you done a detailed comparison? What about your major clients? Are you keeping strong relationships, and can you get more orders from them? And among your perfumers, do you have at least two who can deliver good results?"
A flood of questions left Liam speechless.
Recently, Liam had seen steady improvement in performance, which made the board happy. If Vivian did well in the upcoming competition, they could achieve a good ranking. Even if she didn't, the quality of the perfume and the market's response should still secure them a decent position.
It felt like Liam was just waiting around for recognition and profits. If he had focused more on Evelyn, he wouldn't be stressing so much about the future.
Out of nowhere, Samuel showed up, and then a big issue popped up with Vivian, causing a trouble.
Ava was fuming. "Look at you! What have you been doing all these years? Do I have to teach you how to handle every little thing? You should be managing the company's profits and client relationships yourself. If you don't take charge, who will?"
"Mom, I'm sorry; I messed up! I thought everything was under control, but I didn't expect this. I never thought Vivian would be dumb enough to kidnap Evelyn. And..." Liam's eyes narrowed as he added, "I also didn't know that the Rosen you introduced me to is actually a drug addict with a terrible reputation internationally!"
Liam had dug into this after Vivian's trouble. It explained why they couldn't reach Vivian and why there was no news about Rosen, who had already been arrested by the French police.
"That's it. He even fooled me!" Ava said, rubbing her temples, feeling a headache coming on.
Ava had been careless, only knowing that Rosen had some skills and real awards. But she didn't knowhe mainly relied on plagiarized works and had a bad rep internationally.
"He even fooled you..." Liam said, staring at Ava in shock.
Ava felt uncomfortable under his gaze and snapped, "What are you thinking! I mean, I didn't know he was like that. He deceived me."
Liam sighed in relief, but Ava's expression grew angrier. "What's going on in your head!"
"I want to do better, to make you proud of me one day, but it seems like I've messed everything up." Liam felt incredibly dejected.
Seeing Liam so down and remembering his words, Ava couldn't help but soften a bit from the guilt she felt towards him. "Alright, it's not all bad. At least it's not the worst it could be. I heard you went to find Evelyn?"
That topic only made Liam more frustrated.
"Facing trouble?" Ava glanced at Liam, not taking it seriously. "Of course, you're facing trouble! After how you treated Evelyn, did you think she'd just forgive you easily? The Jones family is proud, so you need to be patient."
"No matter how patient I am, it's too late! Mom, she's already with someone else!" Liam interrupted.
Ava was stunned. "Someone else? Who? I haven't heard of this."
"Yeah, it's Samuel." Just thinking about him made Liam tremble.
"Who?" Ava's voice rose in shock.
Ava's reaction was exactly what Liam expected. He repeated, "You heard me right. It's Samuel Whitman, the current head of the Seraphian Group and the Whitman family."
After a few seconds of silence, Ava's voice calmed down a bit. "Who told you this?"
There were always rumors, so Ava couldn't just believe a few words.
"I saw it with my own eyes," Liam said, feeling frustrated.
