Chapter 98 Praising His Son's Ex-Girlfriend
Vivian was a bit nervous. She had been here for a while, but Ava had not arrived yet.
"Don't worry. My mom must have been delayed by something," Liam comforted her softly, though he was unsure.
After all, Ava was reluctant to meet Vivian, but Liam had insisted.
Just as he was about to get up to make a phone call, the door to the private room was pushed open by Ava's assistant. After Ava entered, the assistant closed the door behind her, and stood guard outside.
Ava was dressed in a light gray Chanel-style suit, with freshly permed hair. Vivian glanced over and noticed the latest jewelry on her ears and wrists, feeling envious.
Even at her age, she maintained herself well, looking no more than in her thirties or forties, with a good figure and demeanor.
If only... Liam could publicly acknowledge her as his mother!
With this thought, Vivian couldn't help but feel disappointed.
Unfortunately, Liam was the offspring of Ava and her former husband. As a result, Liam not only could not acknowledge Ava as his own mother, but he also stood bereft of any claim to her current wealth. Had he been the legitimate heir, Vivian would not have ventured to cheat on Liam and sleep with Rosen, seeking a dual safeguard for herself.
"Mom," Liam greeted as he approached, then turned to Vivian, "Vivian, come here!"
"This is Vivian, as I mentioned to you before." He put his arm around Vivian's waist, showing great courtesy.
Ava glanced at her indifferently, barely acknowledging her presence.
Ava took off her coat, sat down, and started eating with a fork. She was quite picky about food, but the dishes at this club suited her taste. Combined with its strong privacy protection, she often chose to meet Liam here.
However, over the years, it had always been just the two of them meeting. For the first time, their gathering included an additional individual.
"Mom, how have you been lately?" Liam cautiously expressed his concern as they sat down, "I heard you acquired another small company, and Uncle Fletcher isn't in a good state. You must be working hard."
Casually picking at her food, she ate delicately, saying, "You don't need to worry about these things."
"Yes! I know you are capable and can handle everything. By the way, I want to thank you for helping out with my company recently. If it weren't for your assistance, I wouldn't have known what to do."
Liam expressed his gratitude, leaving Vivian surprised.
It was normal for Vivian to be nervous, but to witness Liam also succumb to a state of nervous formality was truly unexpected.
Facing his biological mother, Liam spoke with such formality and distance, cautious with his words in every sentence. He seemed more like subordinate than a son to her.
Ava's hand, holding the fork, came to a pause before gently setting it down. She retrieved a tissue, delicately dabbing it at the corners of her mouth, then crumpled it into a ball and tossed it onto the table.
"Liam, you handled this matter very poorly."
"Yes, I know I didn't think it through. I never expected Evelyn to tamper with the formula, almost causing the company to..."
Before he could finish, Ava interrupted, "No, I'm not talking about that. I mean, you handled you relationship with Evelyn very poorly."
"Mom?" He was surprised by her words, a hint of questioning in his voice.
"Why did Evelyn tamper with the formula? How long have you been together? How many products in your small company are not her creations? She has always been obedient to you. Why did you drive her away?"
As Ava spoke, she pointed at the table with a serious expression, as if she were a strict teacher questioning a student who had cheated.
Liam was taken aback, feeling a bit embarrassed, beads of sweat forming on his forehead. "Mom..."
"I sent Rosen to help you because you are my son, and I don't want to see you struggle for so long and end up with nothing. But that doesn't mean you are not at fault. Liam, you were completely wrong in this matter!"
Ava's criticism was ruthless, but the most awkward and embarrassing person in the room was Vivian.
What was going on? She had come with Liam to meet her future mother-in-law, but it was clear that Ava didn't regard her highly. Ava not only didn't even look at her directly, but also didn't say a word to her.
Moreover, Ava praised Liam's ex-girlfriend in front of her. What kind of situation it was!
Vivian sat there, her face turning red and then pale, feeling extremely uncomfortable.
After being scolded, Liam retorted, "Mom, I can't control my feelings. I love Vivian, and I want to be with her. I can't spend my life with someone I don't love. Yes, Evelyn is talented and capable in perfumery, but that doesn't mean I have to marry her! I admit I took advantage of her, but I also gave her a lot. You know, although Evelyn had been with me for so many years, she turned against me at the drop of a hat, which shows how ruthless she is."
"Such a despicable person! Even if she didn't betray me this time, who can tell when she might turn against me. By doing this now, I'm preemptively eliminating risks." His voice trailed off, perhaps feeling guilty.
Ava glared at him. "So, should I praise you for this?!"
"That's not what I meant," He hurriedly said, "Mom, I brought Vivian here today to see you. Please don't bring up the past. I am over with Evelyn. I love Vivian. She will be your daughter-in-law, and I want to marry her."
With that, Ava didn't continue the scolding, finally giving Vivian a proper look.
However, from her gaze, Vivian couldn't see even a hint of approval.
"You've grown up. I can't stop you from doing what you want. You have your ideas. But when it comes to marriage, I advise you... both of you, think carefully." She reached for her bag placed beside her. "Marriage is not a game. If you insist on getting married, then go ahead."
Ava handed Liam a bank card. "This is a little token from me. You know I can't attend your wedding. The password is your birthday. Regardless, I wish you well."
"Thank you, Mom!" Liam took the card happily. "I understand, and I'm already very happy that you agreed."
"Alright, we've already taken up too much time today. I'll leave now." Standing up, she was about to leave.
"Well, I'll wait for an hour before leaving. Take care of yourself."
Liam stood up and noticed Vivian still lazily sitting there, so he pulled her up, and she stood up slowly as well.
Ava didn't pay much attention to this. She just raised her hand and gently patted Liam's shoulder. "You too."
