Chapter 91 What A Bizarre Logic!
Ignoring his embarrassed expression, Rosen continued by gesturing with three fingers, "The third thing I dislike the most, making friends!"
After saying that, he adjusted his coat and stood up, saying, "I'll go settle the bill. You do as you please."
Rosen was clearly humiliating him. Just a moment ago, Liam was full of confidence. Now, he was filled with anger.
He had thought that he could easily reach a consensus with Rosen. After all, they had some rapport, but he didn't expect this person to be so indifferent, not showing no respect at all. It was really ungrateful!
While he possessed commendable skill, he was not the only formidable perfumer in the world. No matter how talented he may be, in comparison to those truly elite artisans, he fell significantly short. With a resentful sigh, Liam cursed him inward as he drained the wine of his glass.
Liam wanted to see if Rosen had left, but his gaze shifted, and instead, he saw a familiar figure. It was Evelyn!
He almost forgot she was also here. On Vivian's first day here, she had come to him to complain about this matter.
Narrowing his eyes, his position happened to give him a side view of her. He saw her sitting alone, holding her phone as if chatting with someone, her fingers tapping quickly.
After a moment of thought, Liam glanced at the restroom. Since Vivian hadn't come out yet, he stood up and walked toward Evelyn.
Evelyn was engrossed in a lively chat with Samuel on her phone. She didn't expect him to follow her downstairs for a meal, although their seating provided enough privacy. Yet his status was remarkable. He might be discovered by others.
Now, Evelyn sat here, looking up just enough to see Samuel, and Samuel could see Evelyn. However, it wasn't appropriate for them to sit together in this public setting, so they could only engage in casual chat through their phones, creating a sense of distance and thrilling secrecy, which oddly sparked a different kind of excitement.
Samuel: [In the three o'clock direction, there's a jerk approaching. Be careful.]
Seeing the inexplicable words on the phone, Evelyn frowned. What did that mean?
She lifted her gaze to gauge his reaction, only to find a face unexpectedly close. "Evelyn."
Instinctively leaning back, she was startled.
Liam saw her surprised expression and felt a bit pleased. If she did not react when seeing him, that would have been more annoying.
Her reaction indicated lingering care; there remained a part of him in her heart.
If Evelyn knew his completely self-absorbed thoughts, she would be furious! She was just startled, nothing more.
"How coincidental!" He sat down opposite her, ignoring whether she wanted him to or not. "Alone?"
Giving him a disdainful look, Evelyn was a bit annoyed.
His position blocked her view of Samuel.
Now she understood why he had said that strange words earlier. It meant Samuel had also seen Liam.
Her fingers quickly tapped on the screen, sending him a message.
Evelyn: [You should have told me earlier.]
The words were full of resentment. Samuel chuckled and replied.
Samuel: [So, he managed to provoke your ire this quickly?]
Evelyn: [Not really, but it's annoying. Why don't you come over and help me get rid of him?]
Samuel: [Are you sure you want me to help? Should I come over?] He was practically eager, wanting to announce their relationship to the world.
Evelyn quickly sent a rejection emoji, her panicked look making Samuel laugh.
Evelyn: [No. Please, don't!]
He replied: [If you need me, I'm here anytime!]
Of course, she wouldn't actually let him intervene, and in this public place, Liam wouldn't dare do anything, either. But seeing those words, she felt somewhat reassured, and she smiled sweetly.
Seeing her smile, Liam was momentarily stunned.
Honestly, after knowing her for so many years, Liam had grown accustomed to her presence.
He was used to seeing her busy in the lab every day in her work clothes, used to the various strange smells that clung to her, and used to her unchanging expressions and tone. It was precisely because of these habits that he found her so tiresome.
She was so dull, neither cute nor sexy, neither romantic nor gentle. She didn't spark any interest in him. If it weren't for her willingness to wholeheartedly help him and her remarkable talent in perfume blending, he wouldn't have spent so much time with her.
However, just now, that smile of hers truly did captivate him.
That sweet and playful smile, was it really Evelyn? Who was she smiling and chatting with? Now that he was sitting right in front of her, why did she act as if she hadn't seen him, just staring at her phone screen, smiling so happily?
Liam absolutely didn't believe she would ignore him like this. After some thought, he felt there was only one answer. she was doing it on purpose!
When she saw him just now, her expression was clearly a bit panicked. If she truly ignored him, she wouldn't have been like that. She must be displeased in her heart; that was why she behaved this way; she wanted to attract his attention deliberately.
Clearing his throat, he tapped on the table. The sound made Evelyn look up at him, and Liam was satisfied.
Liam thought, 'See! She does care. She's just pretending not to.'
"Evelyn, I'm talking to you. Didn't you hear me?" he said.
Giving him a sidelong glance, Evelyn said, "Are we very familiar with each other?"
Mocked by her, Liam frowned. "Evelyn, why must you act this way? Even if we can't be lovers, we can still be friends! Look, you've had your revenge; you've let out your anger. I admit Vivian and I did something wrong, but you've retaliated. Since we've dropped the charges, let's put this matter behind us. Let bygones be bygones, okay?"
Evelyn was utterly astounded; her eyes widened as she gazed at him.
What a bizarre logic! How dared he suggest turning over a new leaf regarding past deeds! He had no right to do so!
"Sorry, I don't quite understand what you mean. I haven't sought revenge. I really haven't done anything!"
Leaning back, Liam placed a hand on the back of his chair. Looking at her, he said, "Evelyn, this is getting boring. I sincerely want to make peace with you, but you insist on being so cryptic. Are you saying that you didn't tamper with the formulas left in the company before? Didn't you intentionally leave a fake essential oil formulas?"
He spoke with confidence as if he had caught her in some trap.
