Chapter 58 To Clear One's Name, I Don't Care
Liam was busy with the essential oil matters and didn't have the time to worry about the legal dispute with Evelyn.
At this time, Evelyn had already officially started her new work schedule.
The withdrawal of the lawsuit by Liavian Perfumes was a silent and sudden contrast to the previous standoff, leaving curious onlookers eagerly awaiting the final outcome. However, it came to an abrupt stop, leaving many feeling uneasy.
The controversy existed: some argued that Liavian Perfumes was at fault and thus withdrew the lawsuit, while others contended that the company was displaying magnanimity by letting Evelyn off the hook.
In the face of many doubts, Evelyn left a comment on Instagram: "I don't care."
Just this simple sentence inexplicably attracted many fans!
Evelyn didn't pay much attention to the online turmoil—she wasn't a celebrity nor did she rely on fans to make money. As such, she focused on doing her job and constantly coming up with new products.
…
Early in the morning, Cathy called her into the office and asked directly, "Evelyn, do you have anything going on at home these days?"
"No, nothing!" Evelyn was taken aback for a moment. She didn't understand why Cathy suddenly asked about this.
Evelyn nodded, and Cathy said, "That's good! If you have anything at home, take care of it as soon as possible. I want to take you on a business trip."
"A business trip? Where to?" She had just started working, and she could already go on a business trip?
"Tedia." Cathy took out an invitation letter. "There is a perfume tasting event there. In addition, the geographical environment is unique, and there are more natural spices. We can do some material collection."
Evelyn didn't immediately agree.
Naturally, she wanted to go. However, considering she'd be away for several days, she definitely needed to inform Samuel beforehand.
"Evelyn, Evelyn?" Evelyn didn't respond, and Cathy called her several times in a row. "Are you okay? Don't you want to go?"
"No." Evelyn shook her head and said, "Such a good opportunity, of course I don't want to miss it. It's just that I have just joined the company for a short time. Ms. White, aren't you afraid that I won't do well?"
"It's just a tasting event. There's nothing to be good or bad at. Besides, I can see your abilities. As a perfumer, qualifications are important, but talent is also crucial. Not everyone can become a perfumer."
Cathy spoke the truth. Although there were many people in the project department, there were only a few who could truly be called perfumers. Other than Evelyn, there was no one with a decent rank.
Not to mention the whole country, it's not easy to become a perfumer even in the whole world.
But Evelyn was different! She had talent and ability. Despite Cathy's initial dislike and suspicion regarding Evelyn's abrupt entry into the company, Evelyn managed to win Cathy over after undergoing a series of tests.
"Thank you for your affirmation, Ms. White."
Cathy glanced at Evelyn. "No need to thank me. I'm taking you with me because you'll be doing real work. Pack up in the next two days, and we'll leave the day after tomorrow."
"...Okay!" Evelyn wanted to say it was so fast, but the timing for these things was always arranged.
Because she needed to prepare for the business trip, Evelyn left work early and went home.
Today, she returned home early. Samuel had not yet returned, leaving the house enveloped in silence.
Evelyn changed into comfortable slippers, turned on the stereo, played soothing music, and brewed a pot of milk. She enjoyed this atmosphere.
She had never told Samuel that she actually liked quietness and disliked crowded places. Originally, she thought that there must be many servants around Samuel and a lot of people coming and going in the house, but she didn't expect Samuel to be so different.
Apart from hiring a cleaner now and then, Samuel managed on his own, resulting in a notably serene atmosphere at home. He even prepared his own meals. Though it could feel lonely at times, Evelyn relished the uninterrupted peace.
The milk in the pot slowly boiled, and there were a few pastries in the delicate small plate next to it. Samuel strictly forbade her from entering the kitchen, so she had to give up this idea and sit there quietly.
On the table in front of her, there were seven or eight bottles of perfume, all kinds of small bottles that had just been released.
Evelyn prepared a glass of water, tissue, and mint, and then sat silently for a while.
Perhaps it was due to her recent entanglement with Liam, but Evelyn found it difficult to calm down. Her mind was restless, devoid of inspiration and lacking any desire to create anything new.
This couldn't continue. The more she drained herself, the emptier she felt. Without replenishment, her original vitality would soon be completely depleted.
The opportunity for this business trip given by Cathy was quite good. Evelyn could go out and explore, and maybe find new creative inspiration.
Evelyn slowly opened her eyes. The small bottles before her were undeniably cute. She casually reached for a pink one, bringing it close to her nose. Even without uncapping it, she could detect the strong, almost pungent fragrance wafting from within.
Evelyn suddenly lost the desire to open it and placed it back down.
These bottles were not high-end perfumes, but rather miscellaneous brands from small shops. However, it wasn't necessarily that only big brands could bring ideas. Often, some unknown small brands could also bring unexpected gains.
Evelyn withdrew her hand, her fingers already stained with the scent of the perfume. So she carefully washed her hands, dried them, sat back down, and then picked up another bottle.
There was a notebook next to Evelyn's hand, where she wrote down her insights, reflections, and ingredient analysis. She was busy, but felt fulfilled.
…
Samuel returned home, immediately assaulted by a pungent smell even before stepping inside. He sneezed repeatedly and hesitated outside the door, taking a few steps backward.
"You're back!" Hearing Samuel's voice, Evelyn ran over. She opened her hands, still unwashed from trying the perfume, and it looked as if she was running towards Samuel to hug him.
Samuel was about to respond, but as Evelyn approached, his nose began to twitch uncontrollably. He then sneezed repeatedly, one after another.
Evelyn stopped in her tracks and looked at Samuel continuously sneezing. She sniffed herself and said, "Did I stink up the place?
"I'm going to wash up!" Evelyn said, turning around and running back.
Samuel stood at the door for a while before entering. When he did, he saw Evelyn, who had already finished washing her hands. She held tissue paper wrapped around small bottles and threw them all into the trash can before tying the bag shut.
"Are you conducting experiments at home?" Samuel asked while opening the windows to let the smell dissipate.
"It's not an experiment. I'm just familiarizing myself with the new products on the market, seeing if there's anything worthwhile." Evelyn waved her hand, trying to make the smell in the air dissipate faster.
"So, any findings?" Samuel used a tissue to wipe his nose, feeling like he was catching a cold.
"The only finding is that, even though it's a new bottle, it's still the same stuff inside," Evelyn shrugged, expressing her disappointment.
