The France trip finally wrapped up. Evelyn and Samuel hopped on the same flight back home. Once they landed, it was back to the grind, diving headfirst into their hectic work lives.
However, it wasn't just Evelyn basking in the glory. Neogenito Fragrances scored big time with this win. This was the biggest accolade they'd snagged since day one. It was a game-changer, putting them on the map in the international scene.
After this showdown, the global fragrance world now knew about Neogenito Fragrances from Vistalia. Their perfumer, Evelyn, snagged first place, beating out competitors from all over.
The company went all out. The second Evelyn walked in, party poppers went off, and she got showered with confetti and streamers.
"Cheers to Evelyn's epic win!" Cathy was front and center, leading the applause, and everyone joined in, genuinely happy for her.
Even those who had beef with Evelyn before were now giving her props. They didn't really get her vibe or skills before. Some were salty when she aced the company assessment; others were skeptical when she got picked for the France gig, even hoping she'd flop. But Evelyn not only bagged an award, she took first place.
Word on the street was that the final judge was the super picky Matthew, which just proved how legit Evelyn was. Now, no one had any doubts about her!
"Thanks, everyone." Evelyn, not used to all this attention, gave a polite nod.
"Evelyn, you crushed it and made the company proud! We'll be giving you some special recognition and rewards soon. Oh, and swing by my office later; we need to chat," said the General Manager, Nasir.
"Nasir, Evelyn just got back from a business trip, and you're already piling on more work!" someone piped up. "Can't you let her chill for a bit?"
Others started to persuade Nasir.
"Yeah, with such awesome news, shouldn't we throw a proper celebration?"
"Nasir, show some love. How about a big dinner tonight?"
"Great idea!"
The suggestion got instant support.
Cathy waved her hand. "What celebration? Evelyn's the one who won the award and brought the honor. What's it got to do with you? It's kinda lame to ask for rewards!"
Even though Cathy said that, she was grinning, clearly joking. Everyone knew Cathy had a sharp tongue but a kind heart. They weren't fazed by her words and rallied, "Evelyn brought honor to the company, but we're all part of the team. Everyone plays a role. Plus, Evelyn's one of us, and we're stoked for her. We should celebrate together!"
"Alright, dinner's on me tonight!" Nasir said with a smile. "But for now, let's get back to work. Things are gonna get tougher, so gear up for the challenges!"
"Got it!"
After a response in chorus, everyone scattered to get back to their busy schedules.
Nasir looked at Evelyn and said, "Evelyn, come with me."
No one really knew what Nasir wanted to talk to Evelyn about, but given she came back with a win, it couldn't be anything bad.
"Alright," Evelyn nodded and followed Nasir to his office.
Once inside, Nasir peeked outside, pulled the curtains a bit but didn't fully close them. "Ms. Taylor..."
Evelyn was confused. Why the formal tone all of a sudden?
"I didn't really get the whole deal between you and Mr. Whitman before. If I messed up or said something off, my bad," Nasir said, scratching his nose, looking a bit awkward.
It dawned on Evelyn now that Nasir knew she was sent by HQ but didn't know about her connection with Samuel. After that kidnapping drama, the cat was out of the bag.
But Nasir probably still didn't know the full story between her and Samuel; he just knew there was something.
"Nasir, about Mr. Whitman..." Evelyn started.
Nasir cut in, "I don't know what your deal is with him, and I won't pry. Don't worry. I won't spill the beans. But since we gotta keep your identity on the down-low here, I can't always give you special treatment. You get that, right?"
"Got it," Evelyn nodded. "I just want to be treated like everyone else. I'm here to grow with Neogenito Fragrances."
Nasir looked at her for a sec, saw she was being real, and relaxed. "That's the spirit. But with your ties to Mr. Whitman, why not just join Seraphian Group directly? Why come to our little Neogenito Fragrances?"
Even though Neogenito Fragrances was backed by Seraphian Group, it was still a smaller fish compared to the big league. Evelyn didn't have to settle for a gig here.
Evelyn replied, "Nasir, you know how things were when I first got here. Given my background and the situation, landing a spot at Neogenito Fragrances was already a win. This place might be small, but it's got heart. I believe Neogenito Fragrances has a bright future."
Nasir was stoked by her words. "Really? You mean that? I think so, too! Neogenito Fragrances is going places!"
"Absolutely!" Evelyn nodded.
"Awesome, now I can chill!" Nasir sighed in relief. From the moment Samuel called him about Evelyn, he'd been on edge. He never thought the newbie under his wing would be Samuel's girl.
Having someone like her on his team was tricky. Too much work could cause gossip, and hiding her identity while treating her fairly was a tightrope walk. But now that everything was clear, things would be smoother.
"You can head back now. You've been busting your butt lately. Take a break! I'll sign off on your leave," he said.
"No need. Since things are calm now, I'll just get back to my desk," Evelyn said with a smile.
