Chapter 221 Complete Trust in Him

Feeling the shift in Evelyn's mood, Samuel said, "If you don't want to talk about it, that's totally fine." He  was trying to ease the tension.

Evelyn felt a wave of gratitude for Samuel's sensitivity. Over the time they'd spent together, his careful attention had really helped her open up to him.

Reflecting on it, Evelyn realized that Liam had never shared much about his past, and she had done the same. Despite being together for so long, they had kept secrets from each other, which made their current situation almost inevitable.

"I haven't told you about my family," Evelyn said softly, holding Samuel's hand as they walked to the sofa and sat down.

Samuel, sensing the seriousness in her tone, quieted down and squeezed her hand, nodding for her to continue.

"I'm from Summercrest City," Evelyn began slowly. "The Jones family."

Samuel's eyebrows shot up. "The Jones family?"

Evelyn nodded. "Yeah, the Jones family."

The Jones family was well-known in Summercrest City, just like the Whitmans in Lindwood City, the Redwoods in Emerald Bay, and the Paxtons in Burkwood. Even though the Joneses kept a low profile, their reputation as a judo family still made them intriguing and mysterious.

Because the Jones family was so private, few people knew much about the other family members, which was why Liam had never known about Evelyn's connection to them.

"Andrew Jones is my grandfather, so I don't have the Jones surname," Evelyn explained, looking into Samuel's eyes, finally sharing the secret she'd kept for so long.

Evelyn used to be Evelyn Jones before she turned eighteen. After leaving the family, going to college, and making a name for herself in the fragrance industry, she insisted on being with Liam, almost causing a family rift.

At that time, Evelyn was desperate to escape the stifling environment of the Jones family. For her, Liam was more than a boyfriend; he was her way out.

Thereafter, for quite a long period, no one from the Jones family sought Evelyn out, as if she had been truly expelled. But deep down, Evelyn knew she could never fully sever ties with them; she still carried their genes.

Recently, Nicholas had reached out to her, and she'd been seeing him more often. It seemed like something dormant within her was starting to awaken.

Samuel quickly pieced it together. "So the crane was a gift for Andrew?"

Andrew's seventieth birthday was coming up, and Samuel knew about it. In light of their familial friendship, he had also prepared a gift but he hadn't expected Evelyn to have this additional tie.

"Yeah," Evelyn said, turning to him. "Remember those wooden dolls?"

"The ones that made you think of having a son and a daughter?" Samuel joked, catching Evelyn off guard.

Evelyn said, "I wanted the young guy at the woodcarving shop to make an auspicious beast for my grandpa's birthday, but he suddenly stopped working on it. I thought I'd never get it. But out of nowhere, he finished it and had it delivered."

"Young guy?" Samuel raised an eyebrow.

"He's like a brother to me, nothing more!" Evelyn ruffled Samuel's hair, trying to ease his jealousy.

"I wasn't implying anything!" Samuel huffed, a bit sulky.

"But the gift's ready. I just haven't figured out how to deliver it," Evelyn sighed, rubbing her temples.

"You're not planning to go back?" Samuel asked.

Shaking her head, Evelyn sighed again. "I haven't decided."

"Why don't you want to go back?" Samuel paused, then asked, "Is there someone at home you don't want to face, or something else? Your parents..."

Samuel had never heard about Evelyn's parents. When he looked into her background, this part was hidden, suggesting someone had gone to great lengths to keep it secret.

"They both passed away," Evelyn said calmly. "They died in a plane crash."

Her calmness touched Samuel deeply, making him wonder what it felt like to talk about such a tragic event with such detachment.

Reaching out to hug her, Samuel said tenderly, "It's all in the past; I'm here for you now."

Nestled in his arms, Evelyn felt at peace. She thought, 'Yes, I have Samuel now!'

Sometimes Evelyn wondered why she had thrown herself into this relationship so quickly, why she trusted Samuel so completely. Maybe it was because he gave her a sense of security she had never felt before, not even with the Jones family.

"If you don't want to go, I'll have someone deliver the gifts. If you want to go but have concerns, I can go with you," Samuel said softly.

Evelyn looked up at him, surprised.

Seeing her expression, Samuel smiled, running his fingers through her hair. "The Whitman family and the Jones family are somewhat connected. For Andrew's birthday, I have to prepare a gift too, but I didn't expect... So if you don't want to go, I'll have both gifts delivered together. It's also a way of being honest about us. If you want to go, I'll be there with you!" Holding her hand tightly, he said, "Whatever we face, I'll be by your side."

Evelyn thought, 'With those words, what do I have to fear?'

She leaned in and kissed Samuel's cheek. "Having you is wonderful!"

"That's not enough!" Samuel turned his face with a smile, kissing her lips.

Meanwhile, Liam finally felt at ease after a whole day.

There was no news from Evelyn, and even the online sentiment had improved significantly. The return rate had decreased, and Liam had repackaged old items under the theme "old look, new charm," releasing the promotion early. He could already foresee profits and a bright future.

It seemed that this time, Liam had indeed saved the company by his own efforts! For the first time in a while, he had the chance to sleep soundly and peacefully.
