Chapter 99 Not Going According to His Wishes
Liam was quite happy, holding a card in one hand and Vivian in the other. "Vivian, we can finally get married!"
Glancing at the card in his hand, she coldly pushed his hand away. "Is that so?"
"You see, this is the gift money from my mom to us, which means she has approved of you. I know her words earlier made you unhappy, but don't think too much about it. She didn't mean anything else, just looking out for me from her perspective."
"Of course, she's looking out for you, even picking out a suitable wife for you, but the suitable wife isn't me." Vivian thought about what her future mother-in-law had said earlier, and it made her angry.
Ava incessantly referenced Evelyn in every sentence. Yet, it was Vivian who now sat before her, set to wed her son, not Evelyn!
Ava's eyes showed no recognition of her. The disdain emanating from her core made Vivian very uncomfortable.
"You're sulking again, aren't you? She didn't mean any harm. Even if she likes Evelyn, does it matter? I don't like Evelyn, and I'm the one getting married. I'm the one choosing a wife whom I will spend a lifetime with. Her opinion is just an opinion. It doesn't change anything!" Liam patiently comforted her, knowing that Vivian was indeed wronged in this matter.
"Really?" Vivian turned to him. "What if you change your mind?"
"How could I change my mind! Don't you understand my feelings for you after all these years? I've always liked you, only you! Besides, we have a child now. I will never change my mind!"
To reassure her, Liam took her hand and placed the bank card in her palm. "From now on, our family money is yours to manage, and I will heed your words, too. You are of paramount importance of me, okay?"
Looking at the bank card in her palm and then at his sincere eyes, Vivian nodded in satisfaction. "You must keep your words!"
After dropping Vivian off at home, Liam drove straight to the laboratory. The experiments on the new products were in their final stages, and there couldn't be any mistakes. As Vivian had said, he was counting on these two new products to win an annual award.
Recently, he hired a few perfume mixers and lab technicians. Although their abilities were not particularly strong, they were at least at a professional level. They might not produce masterpieces, but handling ordinary products would be fine.
Everyone was busy. Liam checked the project progress roughly. It was acceptable, so he didn't say much. He just encouraged everyone to work harder. When they achieved results, everyone would get a raise.
After a round, he noticed someone was missing again, so he called Tyler from the lab. "Where's Laura? Is she on leave again? Or did she skip work?"
Laura had just returned to normal for a few days. What was she up to now?
"No, Mr. Scott. Laura said she had resigned," Tyler whispered, thinking Liam knew about it.
"Resigned?" Liam raised his voice. "When did she resign, who allowed her to resign? I didn't approve her resignation. I didn't sign off on it!"
"Call her, call her back immediately. She has absolutely no respect for the law!" he said, hands on hips, looking furious.
Tyler nervously dialed the phone and said, "Can't get through."
"Call again! If that doesn't work, go to her house. She's got some nerve!" Liam scolded, but then felt unsatisfied, thought for a moment, and said, "Forget it, I'll call myself!"
Turning back to the company, he headed straight to the HR department. "Get me Laura's file. Also, let the legal department handle it. What kind of punishment and compensation should an employee face for leaving without permission."
Tyle looked up at him. "Mr. Scott, Laura submitted her resignation letter over a month ago. According to the labor contract law, whether you agree or not, after thirty days, she can automatically resign."
"What kind of ridiculous rule it is. Why haven't I heard of this rule!" Liam was surprised. It was something he had never expected.
Liam had always thought that Laura had to stay here and keep working as long as he didn't sign or agree, but now Tyler's words made him very angry.
"This is... stipulated by the contract law." The voice lowered. Even if the boss was furious, he couldn't break the national regulations.
"So... she can just leave if she wants to? I have no way to stop her?" He couldn't believe that such a large company couldn't do anything about it?!
"Her last month's salary and benefits haven't been settled yet," Tyler looked down at the documents and said.
"Deduct it!" Liam ordered without hesitation.
"Furthermore, due to the special nature of her job, we can request her to comply with a non-compete agreement."
Liam's eyes lit up. "That's good! Get this done. Prohibit her from being employed by competitors. If she doesn't comply the agreement, we'll take legal action to make her compensate my company for its financial losses!"
He could guess with his eyes closed that Laura was determined to resign because she wanted to work with Evelyn, but he wouldn't go along with her wishes.
She could leave, but at least for a year, she couldn't stay in this industry. As long as she dared to go to another company, Liam would sue her for breach of contract. He bet Evelyn wouldn't pay the penalty for her!
Thinking about the leverage he had to restrain them, Liam felt much more at ease.
It turned out that she should never have flirted with a vibrant man like Samuel, especially when he had just tasted the sweetness of sex.
Evenly had just been teasing him for fun, and Samuel proved with actions that she hadn't worn him out. In fact, it was she who ended up worn out.
She didn't find their first time exhausting. This morning, Samuel showed her how restrained and controlled he had been during that time. Now, she felt like her bones had been disassembled and reassembled. She had never felt so tired, even after exercising.
After taking a shower and changing clothes, she saw the purple-red marks on her neck in the bathroom mirror and pursed her lips. She could only find a high-necked shirt to cover up. At least it wouldn't be visible. Aftrer that, she hastily rushed to the laboratory.
She had agreed with Laura to report to the lab today and to familiarize herself with the work environment first.
However, in the end, Evenly was still late. When Evenly arrived panting, Laura was already chatting with Cathy at the door. Evenly didn't know how long Laura had been there. They seemed to have known each other for a long time, chatting happily.
Hearing the commotion, Cathy turned around, looking at her with a smile. "Rare! The workaholic is actually late!"
