Chapter 15 Take away all the data
After leaving Liavian Perfumes, Evelyn went straight to her studio.
The studio was quite a distance from the company. Typically, she and Laura handled the bulk of the research and development work. Large-scale production only commenced after the new products successfully passed the testing stage.
Liam's eagerness for success often led him to rush into production before verifying the stability of new products, all in a bid to quickly enter the market. He firmly believed that fierce competition meant missing even a single opportunity could spell elimination.
Consequently, he advocated for a continuous cycle of product development to capture consumer interest and secure market share.
Evelyn didn't see eye to eye with his aggressive marketing approach. She understood that the journey from initial inspiration to experimentation, followed by iterative adjustments, and eventual success, was a process that demanded time and couldn't be hurried.
Essential protocols shouldn't be sidelined in the rush to launch.
Despite her reservations, she wasn't the one calling the shots. Her influence was limited, yet Liam accused her of lacking business acumen. As long as they excelled in product development and enhanced efficiency, she felt less concerned about other aspects.
He assured her that once he succeeded, they could enjoy life together. She had never craved luxury; as long as she had him by her side, she found contentment.
She had made so many sacrifices for him, invested so much effort, only to come to the realization in the end that she had been manipulated.
Noticing the red light, she quickly applied the brakes, feeling startled. She cautioned herself against dwelling on these thoughts. The past was behind her; it wasn't too late to acknowledge it now.
Upon reaching the studio, she discovered that Liam was even more cunning than she had initially thought.
Laura wasn't in the lab; instead, she was in the archives. The studio housed several unfamiliar individuals, none of whom appeared friendly.
She knew what was happening and calmly asked, "What's going on?"
"Evelyn!" As soon as Laura saw her, she breathed a sigh of relief and said, "You finally came! They are almost destroying the studio!"
Saying that, she glared at them.
Comforting her with a pat, Evelyn asked knowingly, "Who are you people?"
"We were sent by Mr. Scott," one of the people answered arrogantly.
"Sent by Mr. Scott? That's impossible! Mr. Scott didn't inform me."
"That's your problem. We were ordered by Mr. Scott to assist you in the studio starting today and develop new products as soon as possible."
She thought, 'Assist me? They are actually here to monitor me!
'But Liam is also too naive. Does he really think that after what happened yesterday, I will continue to stay and work for him as usual?'
She sneered and said, "Since you are here to assist me, go to the lab and help. Why do you need to be here?"
"They want me to find all the research and development materials and hand over the keys to the archives!" Laura said.
"Research and development materials? Those are confidential, why should I give them to you?"
"Mr. Scott said—"
At this moment, Evelyn interrupted him, "Stop talking about Mr. Scott all the time. If he has something to say, let him come and find me personally. How do you prove that Mr. Scott sent you? I suspect you are spies sent by a rival company!"
After being interrupted, the several people looked at each other in astonishment.
Finally, one person stepped forward. "Ms. Taylor, we are just following orders. If you have any objections, you can talk to Mr. Scott. We will do whatever he says!"
"Alright, you think I don't dare?"
Evelyn stared at him, took out her phone, and dialed Liam's number right in front of him.
The phone continued to ring, but no one answered, despite it being connected.
Evelyn realized that Liam was retaliating against her.
She thought, 'He doesn't answer the phone as a form of retaliation. He actually resorted to such a scheme.'
He believed that by ignoring her calls, he could break her spirit and force her to give in.
The man across from her grinned smugly, aware that her phone remained unanswered. "Ms. Taylor, your assistant has been searching for over an hour. It's pointless to waste time like this. We have plenty of time. Since this is confidential, it's also company-sensitive information. Mr. Scott, out of goodwill, would like you to hand the files over, and we will handle them properly."
"He's really going out of his way." After hanging up, she sneered and tilted her head slightly. "Laura, find the files and give them to them."
Laura, prepared to resist, was taken aback by Evelyn's request. "Evelyn, these results are the fruit of our labor, each one precious. Their sudden desire to take them away suggests ulterior motives!"
Aware of Liam's distrust, Evelyn knew he sought to confiscate all documents. He aimed to amass evidence favoring Vivian as the heroine of Liavian Perfumes, the mastermind behind every product.
Blinking, Evelyn raised her voice. "Hand them over to them!"
"This colleague is also right. These confidential files contain company-sensitive information. Since Mr. Scott needs them, of course, we should hand them over."
Laura was reluctant, but Evelyn had given the order, so she could only go and get the keys in frustration.
Looking at Evelyn again, she found that she was determined. Laura couldn't understand and wanted to ask, but she held back.
There were a lot of documents, stack after stack, and those people moved them all out. There were cars waiting for them outside.
After everything was moved, they even took the keys to the file room.
"You've already taken everything, so why do you need the keys to this empty room?" Laura said irritably.
"Mr. Scott ordered it..."
Evelyn gestured with her chin and said indifferently, "Give them to him!"
She thought, 'What use are these documents? The most important and valuable ones are all in my head. Does Liam think that by taking these, he can threaten me?'
Laura gritted her teeth and threw the keys directly at the person.
The other person reacted quickly, grabbing the keys and getting into the car.
Evelyn guessed that they were probably going back to report to Liam, but she didn't ask further.
Once the cars had driven away, Laura couldn't help but ask, "Evelyn, why did you give them all the documents? Without the documents, how can we prove that all the products were developed by you and not Vivian?"
"Laura, can't we prove it without the documents?" Evelyn smiled confidently and calmly said, "Don't worry, I have a way."
She thought, 'If Liam dares to set a trap for me, I can make him fall into it himself!'
Although Laura still didn't quite understand, seeing Evelyn's confident appearance, she didn't ask any further.
