Chapter 49 Evelyn, Do You Still Want to Fight with Me?
Vivian was dumbstruck.
Liam had never treated her like this before. He always spoke to her in a soft voice, even when she threw a tantrum, patiently cheering her up. He had never yelled at her like this, especially not in front of so many people.
Due to the shock, she forgot to cry and instead stood there dazedly.
Liam turned his head and saw her expression, instantly feeling a bit heartbroken. He wanted to console her, but his own mood was not good either. He sighed and said, "My mind is in chaos right now. I need to think of a solution. Take a break for a while, and then you can go back on your own."
After saying that, he walked away, leaving her alone.
Vivian was both angry and resentful. Her life and work had been going well all these years, and she was about to succeed. Then, she could kick Evelyn out and become the wife of Liavian Perfumes' CEO.
She had already planned it out. When the time came, she would announce her retirement. By then, the company would have grown, and she could spend money to hire more useful people. Did she really have to keep Evelyn at Liavian Perfumes? She could finally enjoy a happy life.
As Vivian neared success, she never expected the crisis looming over Liavian Perfumes or Liam's sudden shift in attitude.
Everything seemed to trace back to Evelyn—it was all her fault. Without her interference, none of this would have unfolded in such a manner.
'Evelyn, it's all your fault!'
After leaving the coffee shop, Evelyn bid farewell to Andy in the parking lot.
"Andy, I really appreciate your help today. I'm sorry for taking up your time," Evelyn thanked sincerely, shaking his hand.
"You're welcome. It's my duty, and it wasn't too much trouble, but..." Andy hesitated. Seeing her puzzled look, he continued, "From your conversation earlier, I gathered that they took your formula for themselves and falsely accused you of theft."
"But what they just said can't be used as evidence in court, right?" Evelyn said with a faint smile.
"Yes!" Andy nodded. He was surprised by her calmness. "Ms. Taylor, it seems like you're not worried about this."
"Just as you saw, they are the plaintiffs and I am the defendant. When have you ever seen the plaintiffs begging the defendants? So, why should I be in a hurry?" She spoke lightly, genuinely not worried.
As if infected by her attitude, Andy also smiled. "Yeah! In all my years as a lawyer, I have never seen a situation like this! So, I guess I don't need to worry about you. But I have a question..."
"Go ahead."
"What they said was your formula..." He didn't finish his sentence. Some things didn't need to be said explicitly for others to understand their meaning.
Evelyn smiled. "It's always good to be cautious with anyone. Although I'm not good at judging others and failed to be cautious in time, I wasn't completely unprepared. It's fine this way, don't you think?"
Andy understood and his smile deepened. "Indeed! If they didn't have malicious intentions, they wouldn't have harmed themselves. Ms. Taylor, you truly impress me."
"You flatter me! You're a very professional lawyer, knowledgeable and able to discern right from wrong. There is still a lot I can learn from you in the future!"
"I'm very glad to have met you!" Andy reached out his hand to her again, this time more warmly.
Evelyn shook his hand and smiled. "Likewise!"
After bidding farewell to Andy, Evelyn intended to catch a taxi to the office. Even though Cathy had assured her there was no need to rush since she had officially joined the company, Evelyn was eager to acclimate to her new work environment as swiftly as possible.
Cathy also mentioned that once she had taken care of her personal matters, she could officially start working in the lab.
It was probably rush hour as the taxis were almost all occupied. She called for a taxi, but no one answered for a long time. At this moment, she realized how inconvenient it was without a car.
Liam had purchased her car, and it was registered in his name. Back then, she didn't care about these things at all, but now she realized how foolish she had been. However, she didn't feel regret or value his belongings.
Evelyn checked the time and considered whether or not she needed to take the bus when someone suddenly tapped her shoulder from behind.
The action clearly carried a threatening force. Evelyn frowned and quickly turned around. She had originally calculated that she could free herself from the control, but she failed.
The hand still firmly rested on her shoulder, but it had changed direction. Now they were facing each other.
"Evelyn, do you still want to fight with me?"
The man standing in front of her was thin, wearing a neat white shirt with tightly buttoned cuffs. The sapphire cufflinks reflected a dazzling light under the gaze of the eyes, somewhat blinding.
"Nicholas?!" Evelyn's lips moved. This name had almost become unfamiliar.
"Shall we talk somewhere else?" Nicholas raised an eyebrow and released his hand, but his tone left no room for her refusal.
Evelyn didn't object and followed him as they walked around two streets, eventually arriving at a secluded alley.
One end of the alley was against a wall, so there was no one there. It was particularly quiet.
Nicholas kept walking until they reached the innermost part before stopping. He placed one hand behind his back, while the other naturally hung at his side. After a moment, he slowly turned around.
"Evelyn, long time no see." He stood there, his gaze scanning her from top to bottom as if trying to see her clearly.
"Did you come all the way to find me?" Evelyn absolutely couldn't believe this was some coincidence.
During these years, the Jones family undoubtedly knew her location, yet they never contacted her. It wasn't a matter of not being able to locate her; rather, they chose not to see her.
Having departed decisively in the past, she had no reason to regret it now.
Seeing Nicholas standing in front of her, Evelyn had mixed feelings, but she tried her best to maintain a calm demeanor.
"Otherwise?" Stepping forward two steps, Nicholas said, "Look at what you've turned yourself into."
Evelyn lowered her head and said nothing.
"Come back with me." Nicholas said succinctly, getting straight to the point.
"No!" However, Evelyn firmly refused.
"After all this time, you still haven't given up? How he treated you, and how you feel about him? Don't tell me that even now, you still like him..." Nicholas paused as Evelyn abruptly raised her head to meet his gaze. "I don't! I am a stranger to Liam now. From now on, I have nothing to do with him."
"If that's the case, then why?" Nicholas's gaze settled as he looked at her. "After all this time, are you still being stubborn?"
Evelyn bit her lower lip, pondered for a long time, and said, "I will go back."
After a pause, she slowly added, "But not now."
